Kyobo Bookstore is one location of a Korean chain of bookstores. From my understanding this chain is quite extensive in Korea, and the website has a massive range of merchandise, almost like a Barnes and Noble. So, I was really hoping to find some Korean stickers, gifts for friends, pencils, small electronics, and stationary— which I now find at Morning Glory. This store is quite small and barely decorated. Not necessarily the ideal shopping experience. Just strictly books. All of the books, and even the section signs are in Hangul— this can be intimidating for the average non-Korean speaker just looking to browse. But, don’t be intimidated. They did not have the Korean grammar books that I was looking for. However, I did score an entire fixture of reading comprehension books for Elementary and Middle School level… All in Hangul with no English. I purchased six of them for now and hope to come back in a few months and purchase more. The books here are very organized and the shelves are well stocked. However, the associate was happy to help me, he did not understand what I was looking for. He did not feel comfortable speaking English to me, but also did not feel comfortable speaking Korean with me either. So I was on my own.
