We had a larger party and ate at Grandma’s on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and we seated very quickly. The overall atmosphere of Grandma’s is great! Lots of old time authentic decorations of the Duluth area all over the dining area. I order the beer flight which was very reasonably priced to sample the four beers they offered. My wife had the wild rice burger which she said was delicious and I had the Bicycle burger which was terrific as well. Waiter was friendly and food came out pretty quick for a large party(10 people). I can not comment on how the onion rings taste but I saw plenty of orders come out of the kitchen and they were huge! This is defiantly an icon to eat at while you are in Duluth and the views of the lake from the outdoor seating are wonderful. I would highly recommend eating here but it can get busy around the rush times so plan accordingly.

Wait was 25 minutes= not bad. Started with wings and rings= rings are highly recommended but not good at all taste like pure breading and the wings were very good! Our server was horrible(I’m a server so I don’t like to judge servers too much) but this lady was rude and not attentive. The chicken tetrazzini was delicious– would recommend with fettuccini noodles instead of wild rice. Too cheesy without the noodles but still yummy! Décor is awesome. Overall would recommend trying somewhere else instead!

My family and I went to grandmas after a fun exhausting Sunday day. We decided to go up to the bar, because it would have been a 20 minute wait, even at eight o’clock. All I can say is bad customer service. We sat at a table for twenty minutes and a server didn’t even come close to our table. We sat with are growling stomachs as we saw people who came after us get served. We just decided to have a nice meal at Old Chicago’s instead. This review is also based on past visits. The food is very meh. Nothing really stands out. I think this place is really overrated.

Was thoroughly disappointed. I have a gluten allergy and am usually okay getting a plain steak or something from a bar and grill place. So I was very excited to try this Duluth classic restaurant. They did have a gluten free menu, but I was not impressed. They had pre-made steak kabobs on yellow rice… and I was craving steak so I went for it. Was literally disgusting. On top of that, everyone at my table said their meal was mediocre at best. The environment is fun but the service and food have a lot of progress to make. Won’t be going back but I wish otherwise.

TOTALLY depends on the dish you get. My sister is gluten free, and they only had one entrée, the steak kabob, and it wasn’t stellar. However, my husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was the best he’s ever had. My friend got the chicken tetrazzini and it was phenomenal. So if you’re ok with a longer wait and you do not have any allergy issues, go. But it’s pricier than some other bar and grill type places, so you decide what is best for you!

Came in last night with a party of 12 for a friends birthday,. He had originally tried to call over the phone and was told that he would not need a reservation for the party. When he came in we were subjected to a 30 min wait which we spent under the impression that we would all be seated together. After talking with the host when our buzzer went off, we learned that we would have to be sat in two booths. We were all willing to wait for tables to be freed up so that we could all sit at the same table to celebrate the party. The hostess refused to even have us wait and acted as if our request was unreasonable. So she took us in and sat us 6 in two booths back to back. It was extremely uncomfortable and we were all crammed in at the booth. I had to sit sideways with my legs in the isle so that everyone could have enough room to be in the booth. Before the server took our order, she even commented about how uncomfortable the seating situation looked for everyone. While we were in the both we actually realized a artical on the wall above our heads that should have been taken down by management. We found it to be extremely racist and could not believe that they would leave it up there. The waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed. I’m assuming that she probably had too many tables to take care of that night. She forgot the birthday boys cherry coke and she promised to bring me water and it was about a 10 min wait for that. Someone at my table had ordered a meal that came with a side Cesar salad and the salad came out after the meal came out. My chicken sandwich and french fry’s were not even warm and tasted like they had been sitting in the kitchen for awhile. The bacon was also under cooked. The server seemed to want to hurry us along when she was taking our orders. We ordered some appetizers and right after asked us if we we were ready to place our food orders. After we told her that we were waiting for someone to show up and did not want to eat without him, She went over to our second booth and placed all of their orders. They were almost finished with their dinner when we were just starting with ours. They ended up sitting around waiting for us bored after the meal, The hostess originally told us that it would be two busy to put everyone together at one table or even tables close to each other. But as we went in to eat our meal, we had realized that she was seating two guests at tables intended for 9 people. The hosts need to figure out what they are doing so that everyone can be seated comfortably and the servers are not so overwhelmed. Based on this experience, I will probably not return. There are too many other places to eat with good food, experienced servers and hosts that are trained to do their job.

Loved the ambience! So much kitsch and coziness. It seems like this place is really popular with large groups. The service was good and the food was delicious. A must try if you are in Duluth. There is an adjacent parking lot, but the restaurant is well within walking distance of most of the hotels in the Canal Park area. If the weather is good, go for a walk!

I highly recommend. The food was delicious. I got the chicken pot pie there and had the Amaretto Cheesecake to go. The décor was fun and there was plenty to look at.

Great ambiance, but that is about the best thing I can say for this Duluth staple. My Reuben was small and very basic(honestly Arby’s makes a better one). The other meals were paltry and way below expectation for the price and presentation I would expect from Grandma’s. I doubt I would wait another 30 mins for any other meal here. The staff were very nice and awesome though.

This is one of the more dependable sports style bars on Canal Place. It’s a little tight inside, especially in the bar area — but offers a good variety of food, wide selection of tap beers, and well made drinks. I like this location better than the Sport Garden, it’s cozier and has a bigger variety of food and beer. It also has parking, which is a plus. At happy hour — the beers were $ 3! Wow.

This place is so Minnesota cozy, I love it. First of all the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. The server answered 20 questions as I always like the staff recommendations. The wild rice soup was fantastic. Then we ordered the sampler with onion rings and boneless chicken. The spice rub on the chicken was to die for and the onion rings were huge and crispy. I was full at that point but the trike burger with bacon and cheddar, wow, the grilled onions, 2 thumbs up. I can’t wait to visit again. The server was the best and even understood my boyfriends bad jokes. Finally, even though we were full we got truffles for later. The crème de menthe, yum!

I had the chicken wild rice soup and it was incredible! I stole some of my mom’s fries, and although they were good, the ketchup I was dipping them in was amazing! Like honestly I’ve never had better ketchup, and it was signature to the place. We waited 20 minutes for a table at 6 on a Thursday, which was understandable, however, all the tables around our table once we were seated were empty? I’m not judging the restaurant/servers(especially because I work in the restaurant industry), but it was slightly annoying to know there were open tables we could have potentially sat at. Prices were decent, slightly on the higher end of a casual restaurant, but decent still. I didn’t have any desert, but my boyfriend’s dad who was with us did, and he said it was amazing! Check out Grandmas if you get the chance :)

Had raspberry lemonade. It was okay. Got the Chicken Tetrazzini and it was pretty good. I liked the chicken. It was tender and had a nice flavor to it. My partner had the Cajun Chicken pasta. The sausage in the pasta was good and had a nice spice level to it. He didn’t really like the pasta since it tasted kind of bitter. The staff were nice and the service was excellent.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been here. Tonight we came as a group of maybe 35+, adults and kids from a dance competition at the DECC. We’ve been doing these national dance competitions for 6 years in Duluth and the Twin Cities. Sadly, despite there being whole sections of the restaurant which were unoccupied that would have easily accommodated our group, the hostesses were unwilling to do so, claiming the servers would be unable to do this. Really? Not very capable management if they can’t figure how to pull a server or two for about an hour to dedicate to a large group spending lots of money. A quick estimate of what our group spent was about $ 600, not including adult beverages; it likely would have been more had the group been together. This resulted in our group being seated in three separate areas of the restaurant. One group was seated in an empty room! This was really a vibe killer as the parents and some dancers had to sit in completely different areas, unable to share in the excitement of the kids achievements. One of our kids was in the other room because he had arrived a bit earlier with his friends. Our server was good, and the fries arrived promptly and were OK.(Just a beers and shared an order of fries ~ wasn’t gonna spend any more here!) We’ve been doing these national dance competitions for 6 years in Duluth and the Twin Cities. This situation occurred last year for us at Grandmas in Canal Park. There are lots of non-Grandma’s places to eat in Canal Park. We’ll give them our money next time. (PS~ Grandma’s. if you’re reading this a couple servers told our group that this has been a complaint in the past, but their comments have fallen on deaf ears. Maybe your management should listen to them?)

Visited this restaurant 2 times this past weekend while we were in town. Our 1st night we had a room booked for 60 people. Service was pretty slow, drinks took forever. Waiter & waitresses were very friendly & our kids lover them. I had the Spicy Italian Pasta and it was okay. Nothing special. Our 2nd visit was a dining room visit for 4 and service was fast & prompt. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich. Food is good just nothing special. Kinda spendy. Very big & spacious rooms for groups.

Do you want generic processed food with a touristy atmosphere? Then Grandma’s is the place for you! Do you want to experience homemade and delicious food, and get to know the real Duluth? Then you should probably go somewhere else.

I’ve had this place twice recommended, and now I see why. Firstly: the atmosphere. It’s like a busier Cracker Barrel without the checker boards. Old signs and other trinkets of decades past provide ocular exploration opportunities when conversation at the table wanes. However, our food arrived before it came to that, so I’ll explore more next time. Secondly: the food. I enjoyed a serving of their Steak Cheese French with the fries option and a Furious Brewing Surly. Both are worth getting again. I’ll be back to Grandma’s. Maybe even have cookies, too.

been here almost every time we’ve been up to duluth for the past 4 years. we come here because of the name. the wait is always long(at least 1.5 to 2.5 hrs). food wise, it’s okay. it’s just convenient having it be it’s right on canal park. would definitely say give it a try once. things we’ve tried: * smokin’ ghost pepper trike burger * marathon spaghetti * guinness fish & chips * grilled steak kabob * walleye«shore lunch» platter * jumbo shrimp * dinner salad * onion rings * wings * good stuff ranch fries * rosa n’ reuben * cajun chicken pasta * chicken tetrazzini * spicy italian pasta
