Good guacamole — reasonable prices! We had fun and enjoyed it on a Monday night —- I had the enchiladas and they were good.

Really great food and experience. Alberto shows what Mexican hospitality is all about and serves real Mexican(not Tex-Mex) . My wife is vegetarian and said these were the best chile rellenós she’s ever had: Lightly battered and crispy, not to mention huge. I had a burrito with their homemade chorizo, chicken and bacon and a couple of large margaritas that were very flavorful and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is very casual and fun. Nice choice of Mexican beers too. Desserts are huge and recommended for splitting. We had the Cap’n Crunch. Refreshing to go to a real restaurant rather than a chain where the manager does the perfunctory«how is everything?» Alberto cooks and asks himself. Check it out.

I’ve been to Mi Ranchito several times and have always been very happy with my order, while never ordering the same thing twice(which I easily could have). Service has always been prompt and wait staff always friendly. While the dessert look good I’ve never had room to try one after dinner. They have a good selection of beer and drink choices as well. While this may not be the ideal place for a romantic date night, I would strongly suggest trying it out! Best Mexican in Dubuque

Super friendly owner. He took time to talk to us and check on us to see if we like the food. Food was awesome. Wish I was local so I would come here very often. Highly recommended for people traveling through Dubuque and locals!

Very good food. My husband had the Mona Burrito and I had El Pastor Street tacos. They were both very good. The employees were very friendly and came and checked in with us often

Ate here for dinner tonight as we are in town for the night. In a word… amazing! Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but is warm and inviting on the inside. Had a great waiter(whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch). Stopped and talked with us a few times. My six year old said after leaving, «Mom, that guy was so nice!» Food was AMAZING! My husband got the seafood tacos, I got the Enchilada Dubuque. You could taste the freshness. Everything was light, so you didn’t leave feeling uncomfortably stuffed. We would come back in a heartbeat!

Oh my yum! This place is great. Alberto & his family are wonderful. I was lucky enough to be there on a day when tamales were available & got 2 of the last 8. Burritos are generous and packed with flavor. Pico & salsa are delicious. I already miss the tamales!

Holy guacamole this place is SOOOOOOOTASTY!!! I was not expecting to have such good Mexican food in the Midwest. The owner Alberto came out to greet us and talk about the food which was awesome. The tacos were all very flavorful, we had carnitas, al pastor, asana and the homemade chorizo. I had a dope which was so soft and yummy. The guacamole and chips were also quite tasty. Highly recommend!!!

Tamales were authentic and cream sauce over burrito was delicious. Definitely try the Captain Crunch Deep Fried Ice Cream. I hate eating at restaurants that don’t make their own food but rather rely on packaged products. This restaurant is not one of those… their sauces were unique and seasoned well. What a great experience!

Not from Dubuque but I found this place with the help of Unilocal. It was exactly what I hoping for — a small, independently-owned Mexican place with incredible authentic food. There was one server for all the tables(presumably the owner) and his 12 year-old son helping being dishes and bus. You can tell he and his family poured their hearts and souls into this little place and it showed in the quality of the food and the fact that it was packed on a Tuesday evening. Despite having 1.5 servers, I got my food within minutes of ordering it, was seated right away and out of there quickly. But they weren’t pushing me out either. A great place I would come to all the time if I was from the area.

When you need your Mexican food fix«Mi Ranchito» is where you go in Dubuque. The customer service is perfection. The owner Alberto is wonderfully creative in the kitchen he makes specials everyday and I’m told his deserts are to die for. I personally have not had room for desert yet but I’ll keep trying.

I’ve gone here about 3 different times now in the last two weeks, and it never disappoints. The service is amazing, and the owner takes his time to talk to you. He pushes for the drinks and desserts every time, but I haven’t had the chance to try any yet. Will definitely be coming again soon, hopefully with some dessert to go with the great food!

Hands down the best Mexican food in Dubuque. Alberto is amazing at what he does. Whenever you go ask what the special is and you should probably get it because he always comes up with something good. Their lunch is insanely cheap for how mech food it is and carryout orders are ready in 10 minutes. If you go save room for dessert because that’s their specialty.

I was traveling through Iowa to visit some friends and family and accidentally stumbled across this fine location. Coming from downtown Chicago I didn’t expect a wide variety of food– especially Mexican– options in Dubuque, Iowa. However, this little restaurant has taste, variety, and quality service where it counts. The outside is small and doesn’t look like much, but step inside and you’ll enjoy the cozy and festive atmosphere. When I arrived it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. A waiter cheerfully greeted us and seated us at a booth. While looking at the menu my eyes were immediately drawn towards the chips and guacamole appetizer. The free chips and dips(three varieties of salsa– diced tomatoes and cilantro, mild verde, spicy red) that the waiter provided were good but I always order guacamole out of habit. I was glad that I did! The appetizer came out in an ice cream dish all fancied up in both a fun and creative manner. The dip was creamy but had a traditional guacamole flavor that was appreciable– especially considering we visited during the winter season. For the main meal my family and I stuck towards the veggie based options, but this menu features a strong selection of whatever you might be hungry for: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos– all of which can be customized with your choice of meat and veggie combinations. The two veggie enchiladas that my family and I ordered were fresh, hot, and delicious. The enchilada featured diced tomatoes, a variety of peppers, sour cream, and cheeses melted together in a tasteful manner. Brown beans and rice came in generous portions along the side. Overall the food tasted like it had come direct from the kitchen. It may have been a slow business day for them, but it certainly didn’t mean they were lazy in the categories of service or food prep. Our waiter went out of his way to make sure we were doing well and had a positive and friendly demeanor. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant and look forward to visiting it again when I travel through Dubuque in the near future.

Solid restaurant in a fairly unassuming building and part of town. We had a kind waitress, Bri, who was well informed of the menu and attentive to our stay. She recommended guacamole as an appetizer and to our surprise it was a super creative presentation. I ordered the Torta Tijuana which was a good sandwich. Rice was sub par, thus preventing my 5th star. My wife ordered the Quesadilla Chicago, and in her words, «the best quesadilla she’s ever had.» I would have to agree as it was better than my meal. A really solid margarita and tap at a great temperature make this a place I’ll be back to next time I’m in Dubuque.

If I could give 7 stars I would. This place is simply amazing! If you are in the area don’t hesitate to stop here! Their food was authentic and super fresh; it’s like they have a garden out back because of all the fresh veggies they use! They also have yummy drinks made in a coconut; I got the ‘Hawaiian’ and it was delicious! Although pretty full from the great appetizer and meal, I had to try desert, and again, amazing! On top of the great home made food, the staff was also a pleasure! Probably the nicest & most attentive staff I’ve had in the past year or more at any restaurant! The chef even came by to chat for a minute! Just go here if you are in Dubuque!
