Had Italian beef with giardinera, au jus. Good flavor. Loved the sidewinder fries with garlic Parmesan. Spouse had the chicken ranch flatbread. Very tasty. Ambience nice. Bar. Spacious seating. Good service. Consistently good. My third visit.

The service is great, however their breakfast is awful. I ordered French toast that was extremely soggy. The hash browns were crunchy and under cooked. The orange juice tastes like chemicals or rotten sunny d. I’ve had dinner here several times and never had a bad meal, so maybe it was just a bad day for them. Who knows?

Excellent service, quality food. I’ll return. I’m not one for giving out 5 stars but it’s close. On the bartender’s suggestion I went with the 1st and main burger. It was a stretch but I have a hard time going against a recomendation. To say peanut butter and jelly doesn’t belong on a burger is now crazy to me, it works really well. Premium booze is damn cheep compared to other towns. Solid establishment.

I’ve been multiple times and had something different each time…, well almost. I dream about the 1st and Main burger. The slight smear of pb&j is beyond brilliant. It’s so good… you have to try it.

From out of town but appreciated the nice spot on a Sunday to grab lunch and watch football that wasn’t a dive sports bar. Enjoyed the Bloody Mary bar, good food and service. Clean and in a neat old building.

Food has no flavor! They used instant mashed potatoes instead of real potatoes! The pulled pork was blah an not enough food for the price. The Meatballs are also frozen meatballs, you can definitely tell they are NOT made in-house. The restaurant was filthy an the floor was sticky… highly recommended not to go there. .we will definitely not be going back!

I stopped in on Sunday for a game, and it was pretty much as described by other reviews. The bar is a bit more upscale then others in the area. The beer was cheap, and they have a decent variety on tap. The employees are friendly, and if they don’t have the game you want on, just ask and they’ll put it on one of the screens. I didn’t have any food, so can’t speak to that. From what I saw of the other patrons dishes it looked tasty. Enjoy!

First, the service was wonderful. But the food was just on the good side of average; definitely nothing outstanding. I wouldn’t put it in the 4.5 star category that it currently has. The fried pickles were too salty and a little over battered. The jalapeño popper egg rolls were the highlight, but could have been spicier and I wish they had more jalapeño bits in them(they were mostly cream cheese). I got the veggie burger, which for $ 11 in Dubuque should have been more substantial. It was pretty small and after a long day of hiking didn’t fill me up much. My girlfriend got the fish tacos and thought they were bland. Garlic mashed potatoes were nice. Not a bad meal by any means, but given that the two of us spent $ 44(after tax/tip but with no drinks), I would have expected more.

Not a great experience. Don’t plan on returning. The positives: Waitress was great and very responsive! Liked the fries and kids pizza. Negatives: Chicken Caesar was of the raw variety, chicken I mean, they replaced it with a different salad after request. Meatballs were mediocre, philly was meh, pulled pork with root beer sauce was soggy and less flavor then most bbq pulled pork I’m used to.

A really nice bar/restaurant in downtown Dubuque. We went with a large group during a college drop-off day, looking for someplace with a local feel. Nice vibe, good service and a great menu. You can get all the traditional american fare or get it with a unique twist. Overall the food was good but I went with 4 stars simply because the food didn’t WOW me with flavor.

I’ve been to this place a couple of times now, and I had good experiences. The food was excellent, the prices were reasonable and they had a pretty good beer selection. The atmosphere is casual but not divey. This is a good place to hang out at the end of the day or to grab lunch. Happy hour is from 4 to 6, Monday through Thursday, and most nights they have some kind of drink special between 4 and 8.

Excellent up-scale bar perfect for dinner or a night on the town. Had a female waitress/bartender forget about us one one occasion(didn’t refill drinks, forgot sauce and silverware after asking twice) but overall waitstaff is friendly and helpful. Food is overall good.

I’ve been here twice. Once for dinner which was really good. The portion sizes are large and everything we tried was really good. The pulled pork is marinated in root beer I think and isn’t too saucy. Coleslaw on top. The fries are unique looking but nothing too special. Pasta is a huge portion and tasty. The waitress was really friendly. I like the renovations done to this building. It’s very spacious and includes two floors. Nice brick interior. The other time I came was for drinks. Moscow mules were good. The night life here is definitely more for 25 and under. Though happy hour seems to be more for 30 and up.

We were in town for a get away weekend and 1st& Main was just down the road from our hotel. We were very impressed with how nice and clean the bar was. The bartender and wait staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The food was FANTASTIC! The best«bar food» I have ever had! We had beer battered onion rings and beer battered mozzarella cheese balls. These appetizers alone were a meal in itself. We also enjoyed a bacon cheese burger and a Philly cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were very delicious. Then came the beer and wine. My husband had a Stella Cider, Stella, & Angry Orchard while I had a glass of Drops of Jupiter red blend. All quite delicious. Next time we are in Dubuque we will definitely stop in for some excellent food, catch a game on one of the 6 flat screen TVs and enjoy a drink. I hope you do too.

1st& Main is an upscale sports bar in downtown Dubuque, serving quality cocktails and craft beers. The approachable, yet chef driven, menu is what sets it a part from the crowded Dubuque sports bar scene. 1st& Main also deserves recognition for it’s ambiance; it’s polished interior sparkles compared to many of Dubuque’s more dive-y counterparts. The clean feel of the space gives it versatility — it can function as a casual date destination, a bar to post up with a crew and catch a game, or as a weekend hang out spot for the late crowd. But back to the food, 1st& Main shines by making traditional options from scratch, which makes all the difference. Do yourself a favor and get the Nachos, you wont find a better rendition in the city. Great, yet simple, food combined with a classy interior make 1st& Main the best Sports Bar experience in Dubuque.

Was in Dubuque on business, hit up Unilocal for suggestions on where to eat and found 1st& Main. Went in on a Sunday night and place was relatively empty. Bartender was friendly, prompt with service. I ordered the«Mac-enator” — a pulled pork/Mac & Cheese sandwich. Bread was thick, dripping butter and toasted — and I mean all that as a compliment! The Mac & Cheese in the sandwich was a weird combo — but worth trying. Pulled pork was great, roasted in Root Beer which gave it a sweeter taste than most BBQ. I started with Fried Pickles and got the house fries on the side which were amazing. Big TVs with Sunday Night Baseball made it a cool sports bar for a Sunday night.

Delish fries. Good beer list that changes regularly. Lots of televisions. I’d take off half a star for the fact that there was a television on Fox News, but hey … the fries were that good.

Pleasant surprise, took a chance visiting from out of town. Pub food made from scratch in a nice atmosphere. Good service, quality ingredients, and hot out of the kitchen. Maybe not for the foodie looking for the latest trendy ingredient, but every appetizer and entrée we ordered was spot on. Best fried chicken I’ve had in forever; lightly breaded, juicy, just the right seasoning. Fried pickles were awesome with srirarcha mayo, as were the bacon mac and cheese filled egg rolls. Even the side salad was fresh and delicious. My two guests loved their entrees as well.
