Kabuki Korean Restaurant and Sushi Bar

If I could start this review off with applause for you all to hear, I would. But I can’t, so telling you that Kabuki was all-​star will have to do!
My family and I live in Ashland currently, where good food isn’t all that plentiful. I grew up in the Chicagoland area, so I’m used to quality, so traveling to Columbus is necessary to find that quality again. We were at the zoo today celebrating my birthday, so I searched for some nearby restaurants. I’m also 100% Korean, so when I saw Kabuki I decided to give it a go (I was adopted though so… Not THAT much experience).
We ordered:
Chicken teriyaki (my wife has picky tastes)
Bulgogi (because I had to try it)
Kimchi pancake (because I couldn’t figure out how to just order kimchi)
The chicken teriyaki was deliciously grilled, simple, but tasty.
The bulgogi was excellent, best I’ve had outside of Chicago.
The kimchi pancake was very yummy, perfect kimchi nuggets throughout.
I will definitely go back, order more (and the same) and write another 5 star review if my experience is anything like it was tonight.
P. S.- this was a to-​go order. I’m thrilled to think of how it’d be if we dined in! Next time. There will be a next time.

Stopped here once as I had saw the positive reviews and wanted to get some fresh sushi. Got the Brutus roll sushi and it was fantastic. Also got the spicy vegetable soup and it was so damned good I ended up getting a 32 ounce to take home for lunch the next day. I sipped on it here and there that evening and very little made it to my lunch the next day. I could get addicted to this stuff for sure. The guy who was working the bar took care of me and he was super friendly and though I talked his leg off about the restaurant and sushi he never once acted annoyed by it. I left him a generous tip and hope to come back here soon to try a lot more of the food. I’m a huge fan of this place and although my wife isn’t a fan of this type of food I vow to somehow trick her into trying it because I know she loves delicious food and great service and this place has both. Highly recommended!

My 5 year old son put it best about this gem-​it deserves 100 stars. We started out with Edamame, the Heart Attack, and Monkey Balls. ALL were delicious! The spicy vegetable soup is addictive and not at all spicy. I am not a fan of spicy. However, this was just the right amount for flavor. And the bean sprouts in the soup are not canned and still crunchy. Highly recommend the soup! It’s not your regularly veggie soup at all! It’s unique and a one of a kind.
Hanna did an outstanding job on the sushi roll. My son wanted the Buckeye roll and he eat all of it. I had the Lunch Bulgogi Dup Bop and my husband had the LA Kai Bi Box. The stake in my meal was a delicious sweet marinated thinly sliced ribeye that was super tender. The sauce and veggies was all fresh. My husbands short ribs were sliced thinly and marinated in an amazing sauce and served with a dipping sauce he raced about.
This place is now on our top list of favorites! Our server, Austin was great and he was helpful as well. Very attentive and super nice. We got so much food to share and take home for a very reasonable price.
This family owned place takes pride in their food and it shows. Their are no short cuts and everything we had was fresh and made to order.
It is super clean and they even had real roses on the tables since it was Valentines Day. The place is sure clean as well.
This place will not disappoint. The only thing bad I can say is, I wish we would have uncovered this place a long time ago!

The food was ok. We had to wait 30+minutes after I received my food before the person accompanying me received theirs because they didn’t have enough people on staff at the sushi bar, and while we were waiting they attempted to take the condiments away from our table. It’s ok if you’re in the area and want sushi, but I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip here. There are better places to get sushi that are just a shorter drive away. They may have some unique Korean food, and if you’re really craving it I suppose this could be your destination.

I went to Kabuki on a Wednesday night without a reservation. They didn’t have a hostess on staff but I could see about 4 empty tables. After waiting for about 10 minutes and never being greeted, I was unsure if it was a seat yourself or not. I went out onto the floor and stopped a waitress. She said she would add my name to the list and pulled a napkin from her pocket, wrote my name and said 20 – 30 minutes.
After about 45 minutes of waiting the waitress sat a couple that had been waiting about as long as me, and another 30 minutes later I saw they still hadn’t been served. That’s when I decided after over an hour I was done waiting to be seated if I was just going to wait another 30min+ for the food. I left and went to the Mexican place next door.
During the time I waited I saw several parties enter the restaurant and leave after waiting a bit because they were unsure what to do after not being greeted. I also saw tables go empty for anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes.
I’ve never had such a bad experience with a restaurant being so mismanaged. I won’t give it another try.

Love their hot stone bowls and homemade miso soup! I always have to order the Seafood Soon Tofu which is one of their soups that comes in the stone bowl. They know how to do spicy here, too. Always excellent service; they are happy to explain what certain items are and make recommendations. Great sushi too!

I VERY RARELY make it out to this side of town but for Columbus Restaurant Week, I decided to stop in and I was not disappointed. I started out with the miso soup which was not the best I’ve ever had but did the job. It was mostly liquid so it would have been better with more tofu and seaweed, etc., but my one friend tried the spicy vegetable soup and she really liked it. I also had the edamame which was just like any other edamame place and was very good. I followed that with the Salmon Fashion roll and it was delicious. My friend had the TNT roll and he isn’t much of a sushi fan but he really liked it. The rolls were very satisfying — we all left with full stomachs.
The service was also great. Our server was very attentive and informative with regard to the menu. The space is small and pretty inconveniently located. It is in a plaza with a very crowded parking lot and is nearly 30 minutes away from where I live. That being said, if I’m ever in the area again for some reason, I will definitely be back to try some more rolls and to check out the Korean portion of their menu.

Staff is amazing and the sushi is. Beyond spectacular. Something for everyone, even my five year old has a roll he likes! We have yet to have a bad experience here. My favorite is the centerville roll, I crave it! Mmmm tempura

This restaurant has been on the radar, but we live a bit out of the way from this part of the Dublin area. Birthday dinner? Where do we want to go? Let’s try Kabuki.
Kabuki’s space is large and open, with a small sushi bar at the back. They easily accommodated our 8-​pack of diners and we settled in with tea and a friendly server.
The menu offers a ton of sushi options at a standard price point. One of our party got a Salmon Fashion Roll — salmon, crab, avocado, shredded cucumber, masako & spicy orange sauce. It looked awesome and she enjoyed it.
They do Korean standards, Japanese noodles, salad with ginger dressing, and this great spicy vegetable soup. The spouse loved his spicy pork dol sot and my soon tofu was good as well. Their kimchi pancake was super-​delicious, with just enough grill to add smokiness to the crunch. It hit the spot as an appetizer. The only downer — no bon chan.
While I know it truly would be certain death for me, I wanted to order the Heart Attack appetizer SO BAD. Deep fried jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese, spicy tuna and chef sauce. If you come here, eat a bite of this for me. It sounds like heaven.
We’d certainly choose Kabuki again if/​when we’re on this side of town. Definitely a keeper.

First time here & definitely will be returning soon! Service was good but a little slow on refill of drinks-​only because they got super busy right after we arrived there. I highly recommend the spicy vegetable soup, heart attack appetizer (deep fried jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese & spicy tuna) & the tuna mania roll. Sushi was fresh & full of flavor :)

Sushi is fresh lots of different rolls to choose from. The different types of Dolsot are also unique and tasty. Overall yummy if you never tried this style of Korean food and want a safe fun night come check it out

Eating here is always a great choice with very good food and outstanding service.
The items we chose tonight were Miso soup, spicy veg soup, edamame, and houses salads for the early round — all very good. My wife says the veg soup is «killer». Round 2 is sashimi and gyoza (fried veg dumplings)…also very very good.
We always recommend this place.

Yes!!! This place is great! $ 1.00 Saki Bombs? Sure! Why not. We’ll have a few rounds of those.
The food was fantastic. We had a party of four, and had 6 or 7 rolls on the table, some bimbibop, tons of Nigiri, and of course, salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. It was all good! Did I mention the saki bombs yet?
Our server, Kevin, was too cool! Great energy, great service… Awesome guy! If the rest of the staff is as good as him, you’ll go far

This place was deceiving at first. Not as fancy as I was hoping for. BUT! Never judge a book by its cover! The food was delicious. We had the bulgogi, spicy pork, dolsot bi bim bop, kimchee jigae, kimchee pancake & the ninja sushi. All did not disappoint. The ninja sushi was a little black peppery but maybe it was supposed to be like that? Didn’t matter bc my bf loves black pepper and did not go to waste. Our waiter was really cool and we ended up having a really good time. Messed up on the checks a little at the end, but if that was the only issue, I will be going back! YUM!

I first came here about a year ago for Restaurant Week, and I’ve been back since then on my own for a sushi lunch. I enjoyed it both times, but I was much happier during the lunch when my choices were not restricted. The specialty roll menu is fun and colorful, and I liked being able to balance it out with a couple of more basic rolls.
I tried the orange sunshine roll, which tasted as sunny as it sounds. It was juicy and flavorful and looked gorgeous on the plate. The presentation was attractive enough that the tuna roll and seaweed roll were not overshadowed by the special one. They tied them together pleasantly. I hadn’t had a seaweed roll before and was curious when I saw them on the menu. The seaweed came wrapped within the rice, and it was good, if basic (but I expected basic).
The one thing I’d appreciate would be more specialty roll options that aren’t slathered in cream or mayo. I prefer to avoid eggs and dairy, and while the little bits on the rolls won’t kill me, I’d be very happy to try something that tastes fancy and special on account of the fish, veggie, and tempura combinations, with fewer of the extravagant sauces (the sunshine roll had orange sauce *and* cream, and I’m sure just the orange sauce would have been plenty). Thank you to Jessica H. in her review for mentioning that they’re open to modification. I will probably make requests next time.
The décor is beautiful and sleek, and they have buy two rolls, get one free during lunchtime on certain days (Monday through Thursday, I think? Call and ask rather than quoting me on that.). There was also a Unilocal check-​in offer for the same thing that you can use if you’re there at another time (and if they still have it).

I went there for a work lunch with a colleague.
We both had lunch boxes. The lunch boxes are pricey ($ 12) but they come with a lot of food. For lunch for 2 people, I could see ordering one box and maybe a (pricey) roll.
The food was very good. The restaurant itself is nice and the wait staff was great.
Allegedly, all sauces, including soy sauce are made in house. That is pretty cool if true.
That being said, I don’t think this place really separates itself from the plethora of «XXXX food and sushi bar» restaurants in columbus. I don’t live in Dublin and if I was craving this kind of food, then I would go to closer place like Japanese Oriental on N. High St. (I live in that area.)
I don’t really consider rolls to be sushi.
I would eat here again if you were buying (and driving).

I went here earlier this week because I was craving sushi and was tired of the usual sushi spot.
Kabuki is a further drive from the office but 100% worth it! It is a decent size place and has nice sushi bar, tables and booths. Very comfortable and clean environment. My friend I went with LOVES Korean food and was excited to try his favorite dish — Bulgogi.
We were seated immediately and the server was very attentive asking if we had questions. The menu was really big, they had several different sections including your more well known asian dishes, sushi and a large variety of traditional Korean meals.
The sushi menu had a TON specialty rolls and took up about two huge pages. The rolls all looked really different and delicious. They also had a lot of funny names like «Hot Sex Roll» .tee hee. However unless I am with my boyrfriend. I am not very adventurous when it comes to seafood, (because i know he will eat whatever I don’t end up liking). At the end of the menu is where you will find the Korean dishes… and boy were there a lot! I will need to read up on them before going back so I know what to get.
I ordered the house salad, gyoza and spicy tuna roll. Both of our salads were out 2 minutes after we ordered and they were really good. My friend ordered the spicy vegetable soup which came out the minute we were done with our salads and along with it came my gyoza. The soup was amazing! You have to try it. It wasn’t too spicy to scare me away and it had amazing flavor. The gyoza were different than your typical wonton wrapper thingy — it was bigger and a lot thicker. Not sure what it was made out of but the server told me to get it fried rather than steamed (which is what I ususally do). He was right. that was some of the best gyoza I have had.
Sometimes sushi can take a long time and im not sure if that is good or bad? But mine was out maybe 5 minutes after I finished my gyoza. My friends food came out at the same time. The sushi was really really really good. I don’t know enough about sushi to really critiqu it but I have eaten enough to know this was absolutey delicious. As for the Bulgogi, that was the first time I have tried it so I don’t have anything to compare it to. My friend said the flavor was really good and enjoyed it a lot. The only negative comment he made about it was he wished it was spicier. he told me usually this dish usually has a bigger kick to it.
Both of us agreed we will be back here every week! The food has some serious quality to it and I swear we were in and out of there in under 30 minutes! If you haven’t had Korean before or want a GOOD but quick meal during lunch, I would highly reccomend this place.

Eh. This place was just ok. It’s a cute, clean space but the sushi was lacking something. I ordered the Fire Roll, and despite the word «spicy» being used three or four times in the description, it lacked any sort of spiciness whatsoever. Even the wasabi lacked heat. The tempura udon however was pretty good. The broth had a nice depth and smokiness and it was just what I needed on this frigid day. In fact, it made me sleepy and ready for a good afternoon nap.
I’m not saying I’d never eat here again, I’d just order a different sushi roll next time.

First time here for lunch with friends. They currently have a special for Buy 2 Rolls Get 1 Free. We also were there during Happy Hour, which featured $ 1 Sake Bombs, $ 2 Domestics, and $ 3 12oz. Sapporo draft. They weren’t too busy on a Saturday afternoon so our service was prompt and our food arrived quickly.
Three of us shared the Buy 2 Get 1 special and another friend ordered the Eel Dup Bop (grilled eel with veggies over rice) because he wasn’t feeling sushi today. All of our food came with miso soup. The rolls we ordered were the Corona Roll, Mafia Roll, and the Super Crunch Roll. Personally, the Mafia Roll was my favorite, which had salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. The Corona roll came in second, and the Super Crunch roll last. It wasn’t bad by any means, but just seemed a bit dull compared to the other two rolls. All the fish tasted rather fresh, and the price is about average for sushi. The portions are pretty standard too; the specialty rolls are sliced into 8 medium-​sized pieces. My friend who ordered the Eel Dup Bop was satisfied with his food as well.
We also decided to take advantage of their $ 1 sake bomb special! We had never actually done it before, and the waiter was more than happy to explain it to us. He was very friendly, informative, and fun!
Overall, it was a great lunch and very affordable because we split the price up (about $ 11 each) for plenty of food. I think we’ll definitely be here again soon!
