If I was rating food alone, I’d give 5 stars because of the yum yum sauce. However, the past 2 times we’ve been here the service has been horrible. We went to dinner about ¾ months ago and had to ask 3 times for a drink. Then another ¾ times for another drink, which I never received. They still charged me for it though, I had to get the manager involved and they ended up discounting our meal for charging me for a drink I never received. This time we waited about 15 minutes for drinks then another 10 for the soup and salad. Had to flag down a different server to get drink refills and ask them to take dirty dishes. The same manager was on duty and he always seems irritated and in a rush when there’s only 2 tables in the restaurant. Food was still fantastic, they just need to hire a better manager and waiters.

We love the food here and the show by the chefs. But the front desk staff is always so rude! If you don’t have a reservation, don’t even bother coming in on a weekend, even early. They only honor reservations and will make you wait. Even with paying customers waiting, they will wait for reservations(whether they show or not). Husband spoke to owner who was very nice and explained why process is the way it is. But don’t tell us ton either wait an hour or leave at the hostess stand. Money can be spent elsewhere.

My husband and I got food poisoning from here on Saturday night! Which is unfortunate because our experience was really nice. Service was great. But serving bad food is horrible.

So the chef was fun and really nice. The fried rice was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the vegetables were pretty good. I might consider going back for just fried rice and vegetables. But the positives end there. They overcook most everything. And they overcook it in butter and soy sauce and oil. Another poster stated that the food was salty– it’s because a main ingredient in everything is soy sauce, and a lot of it. I wouldn’t bother with any seafood or steak at this place, because it will be extremely over done, and it’s just how they serve it and there’s little to be done about it. But here’s why two stars: at the end of the meal, the waitress came out to box everyone’s meals up, and she set all the dirty dishes and dirty silverware and dirty chopsticks and food that missed the box right on the cooking surface. I thought it was odd when we sat down that there was a little rice on the griddle; it was from when she last boxed somebody’s food. That’s just gross and unsanitary. At least put it on the table, and not on the griddle. Like I said, I might be back. But I would have to get over the dirty cooking surface, and I would only get the fried rice and vegetables. I couldn’t stomach anything else. It’s too much food, and when it’s over cooked, it’s not worth the price difference to get meat.

This is my favorite Hibachi grill in the Columbus Area. We got here a bit later in the evening, and were celebrating a friends birthday. The chef was excellent! He was very nice and the food he cooked was delicious. I am the only one in my party who does not order fried rice, but the chef will always ask if I want some. I always say no, and at Genji’s, they don’t push the issue. Their yum yum sauce is hands down the BEST, and goes great on just about everything. I always get the steak and chicken, but my husband likes to mix things up a bit and get shrimp or even the filet. Always a great experience, my daughter even loves coming here! Wish it was a little less pricey, but for what I get, the price is well worth it!

Normally I love this place, but we had a very mediocre experience this weekend. Four of us went for dinner. My salad was drowning in dressing while someone else’s had barely any dressing. Each got a different entrée and 1 of those added fried rice. The chef gave us each fried rice, even though we said the rest of us didn’t order it. He said it came with the meal. We never did get steamed rice until we asked for it. We also didn’t get any mushrooms which we’ve always gotten before, and it looked like the other tables had them. The check arrived and we were all charged for fried rice. The waiter’s response was«You should have told me you didn’t want fried rice». You can’t charge me for something I didn’t order. He eventually took the charge off. Then he also put on an automatic gratuity for a party of 4. He admitted this was a mistake and took it off. I hope this was an isolated incident and not a new policy to mischarge customers. And while they do have the best Yum Yum sauce, I will probably be hesitant to go back there anytime soon, based on the erroneous charges and lack of consistency on the food.

I hadn’t been to a Japanese Hibachi in a long time and was very excited to try Genji. We were seated promptly with our party and another couple. Salads and soups came out quickly and were both very good. The chef wasn’t very talkative and had a few funny tricks up his sleeve, but not many. The«Big Flame» at the beginning of the show is VERY big and you can almost feel your eyebrows singe from the heat. Prices are decent compared to other steakhouses in the area, but I recommend splitting one entrée between two people. They give you plenty of food. I agree that the food was way too salty, but maybe this is now standard for Hibachi places? Next time I will ask that the chef doesn’t put any soy sauce on our food.

Every component in the meal was heavily over salted. It was so salty it was hard to eat — which we didn’t. If you have any problems with salt, this is not the place for you. The presentation was fun but I expected more for the price. It’s hard to believe that a restaurant would continue to exist which produced food like this, especially in a time of health conscious consumers. I checked with people who were around me and the concensus was the same. Some managed to eat half their dinner. Restaurants always ask about the meal after you have been served for a few minutes. I wish they had because I would have asked for my money back. Allan M. Columbus

I went for the hibachi dinner experience and it was a blast. Our chef was really engaging and he took all of our odd requests in stride(we asked for 6 eggs in the fried rice!!) Yum-Yum sauce is always delicious and the portions are huge. Basing a large portion of this review on the fun I had with our group and the chef’s personality!

The chef was extremely friendly and fun. He kept the table entertained while he was cooking and made sure to make light of any mistakes. The waitstaff was also friendly and prompt. No mistakes were made, despite serving nine people. Overall, a fantastic experience. The food was very good and was what expected from a Japanese Steak House. We heard about this restaurant because we had Foodie cards.

Let’s start with the good, the rasberry tea was delicious. However i doubt they make it in house. There goes the one star. My wife and i ordered the shrimp and scallops hibachi and the calamari appetizer. The calamari was not bad, but was fried too hard. The entrees were a total dissapointment. Everything was overcooked and tasted scorched. I began to think our chef had made someone sick in the past because he killed everything… twice. Our steamed rice was beyond sticky. The best part was the literal tablespoon of vegetables which were onions and zucchini. I have never had such a miniscule amount from any Japanese restaurant. Their yum yum sauce is supposed to be the bomb, but was thin and tasteless. Genji is worse than Ichiban who was the reigning worse hibachi in Columbus. We were first and last time guest that will not return nor recommend anyone to this restaurant.

Overpriced for what you receive(at least for lunch). The steak was good, but, overall, it really wasn’t all that great. Disappointing.

oh my gosh this place is so good. the best yum yum sauce ive ever had. I got the scallops-and they were cooked-PERECT. perfectly seared on the outside but tender. typical hibachi-but this is def my new go to after being so loyal to house of japan for the last couple of years. do yourself a favor though, don’t order a cocktail. get beer or sake. the cocktails are basically juice-two of them-I should feel pretty buzzed. not the case here. other then that this place is the slam

I was expecting more from this place. I ordered shrimp and scallops and my scallops were not the same size and they were the small kind. For $ 22 I expected more. I would not order this again.

Genji has been my preferred hibachi-style Japanese steakhouse for over 15 years now. I actually remember having my 16th birthday dinner at their old location in Reynoldsburg. They’re not authentic, healthy, or cheap… but they’re pretty friggin’ delicious. Although there has been an overproliferation of hibachi restaurants in Columbus as of late, Genji’s food is the gold standard in my opinion. Although I’ve never gone to their Genji Go takeout store(which seems to get horrible reviews on Unilocal), the fact that they would even start a takeout store points to how tasty their food is. Compared to the older Genji in Reynoldsburg, this location in Dublin is newer, cleaner, and less crowded. The hibachi chef’s skills are really hit or miss, but I think I’ve only ever had 1 bad chef at Genji in all my years coming to this place. The waiters and waitresses are generally friendly and competent. Previously, my major gripe with Genji was that they didn’t always accept reservations, and it would often take over an hour for you to be seated. Now I see that you can get a reservation on OpenTable. Problem solved, hopefully. I don’t think my body can handle the sodium overload from this restaurant on a weekly basis… but for a special occasion every few months? Count me in.

Great times! Love the show! The chef was very very nice. One thing I didn’t like is that he cooked the food in different stages which seemed to take FOREVER for us to finally get our meal. My husband’s seafood was cooked and his meal complete before he even STARTED my chicken. However, my shrimp was done with my husband’s so that sat on my plate for about 10 min before my chicken was done(making it cold). Food tasted great though. Their Yum Yum sauce, in my opinion, is not as good as Kobe’s. We will be back if we are in the area but won’t make a special trip to Sawmill Rd when Kobe is right around the corner at Easton.

This is honestly the best Japanese steak house I’ve ever been too, which has been quiet a few. I love their yum yum sauce it’s by far the best sauce I’ve ever had. This is the place my family goes for big events because it’s everyone’s favorite, sure it’s a little pricey but nothing ridiculous considering the large portions that are given, it’s well worth it in my opinion to eat here every couple months!

Excellent food and service! My only complaint would be that the staff were not all that friendly, but they were not rude by any means. I will certainly be back! If you have never been to a Japanese steakhouse be sure to read their menu quickly once you sit down as there are things that you will want to know to expect throughout your dining experience. For example everybody will receive a small salad, a small soup, and vegetables plus shrimp. There is only one kind of soup and you have two options for salad dressings. The story behind the Genji clan is interesting as well if you have time to read it on the first page of the menu.

Been to this local about 4 times now, and its outstanding. Ive been to all the Hibachi style steak houses in C’bus, and Genji’s is the best! Great fresh meats, cooked perfectly with nice portions. The chefs are entertaining as they are good at cooking too. A great and fun atmosphere as well… while you wait, order a cocktail and meet your dinner companions. And dont forget the yum yum sauce, its to die for.

Had the combo of filet, scallops, chicken and fried rice($ 28). Food was good, albeit smaller portions than I’d have preferred, We were the last customers of the night; although he was friendly, I kind of felt the chef got called out of a nap and pretty much went through the motions. Nothing too flashy or particularly skillful.

Me and my wife went for my birthday treat and everything about the restaurant and the food was great. The chef did some tricks in front of our table. He cooked our food what we ordered right in front of us. The food preparation was fast and it was fun watching the way they cook in front of us. The food was heavy for me, but it was well cooked and served. I enjoyed each and every bit of our dinner in this place.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch due to the recommendation of a friend. The facility is really nice, and was only about 6 miles from our hotel in Dublin. Very displeased with our chef as he was not interactive or entertaining. The only thing he got excited about was his recommendation of adding hot sauce to our yummy yummy sauce. I ordered steak and shrimp– my shrimp were bite sized, and the«vegetables» only consisted of SALTY mushrooms and bean sprouts. No broccoli, carrots, zucchini, etc. The fried rice was average at most. My boyfriend’s sesame chicken was dry and had no sesame seeds. Lol! You only have a choice of soup OR salad, not both like most hibachi places. We literally received a bowl of iceberg lettuce and ginger or yummy sauce for dressing. They were more focused on preparing employee meals for the team than make us happy. Needless to say, we won’t be back.
