This place is now called as Chemmeen and this review is for the new Chemmeen restaurant. WORST food ever! I will never go back again. Waste of time and money! Not even a single dish is tasty. DON’T EVENTRYTHISPLACE!

They recently changed the name and menu but seems to have the same people working there, whom are very friendly. They no longer have Dosa and many other items witch is kind of a drag. I will still give them 4 stars cause they have the best Chicken Tika Masala I have ever had as well as garlic naan.

This place has degraded a whole lot since new name /ownership … Mendu vadas are double deep fried… Chutney is watery… Sambhar served cold. Adhra spicy seems like sriracha on dosa… Used to frequent this place a year ago… just happened to come here again; and for sure this is the last time!!!

Got some takeout from here a couple of days ago. The food overall was average. The chicken 65 was good. The saag paneer and biryani were just OK. The bindi masala was super oily. I would go here a lot more often if this place and I were in Kansas city. But in the Bay Area, there are too many good Indian restaurants.

Much better than our previous Indian buffet. The price is very reasonable for the large selection of dishes. Food was delicious(particularly the biryani). They had an unusual beet sweet instead of the usual carrot. Loved this although my husband thought it was way too heavy on the cardamom. But then I am a cardamom FIEND! Bring it on… We would have enjoyed it more, but as our bodies age we simply cannot keep up with the heavy, rich goodness that is an Indian buffet. At least the food was not swimming in oil and grease like the last time we ate an Indian buffet. Our other disappointment was that we were wishing for more strictly Southern Indian and vegetarian dishes. This is still a very typical Indian buffet. Getting dosas instead of the usual naan was a nice change.

Came on a Sunday Lunch for the Indian buffet with my brothers family. It was $ 11.99 plus a coupon for $ 2 off. They also give 5% off if you pay in cash. Food was not bad. Kinda salty for me. Also, as others have said, the food temperature could have been hotter. It was more warm in the buffet serving trays. The service was nice. The owner and waiters came by and checked on us if we needed anything. Very pleasant. My first time trying Dosas. They were good and crispy. It’s basically indian style crêpe. We got the spicy dosa but next time I would probably go with plan dosa because the food had plenty of spice and herbs so you need something more plain to go with the food. They give Marsala tea as part of the buffet. That is a good touch. Overall, pretty good but I think it was the salt and heavier herb use that was a bit strong for my palette but I think others may like it. I like that they do the buffet on the weekends. This was the only Indian restaurant that I could find that had weekend buffet. All of the other Indian buffets only do it M-F. So plus for this restaurant.

I’m south Indian and let me tell you, there’s no way I would ever eat mediocre Indian food. But Dosa n Biryani is amazing! And even my dad, who is really picky about his food, loves loves loves this place. Reminds us of the motherland. I’ve tried almost everything here and let me just say its all good. But I love my dosas!!! Paper Dosa to be specific. If you’re a foodie check this place out!!! Me and my dad love this place! Oh yes, and try the coffee as well. Taste of south Indian delight!

This place should probably just be Biryani… Skip the dosa bit… Their biryani isn’t the usual Pakistani/Hyderabadi biryani. It’s straight from the heartlands of Andhra Pradesh — Vijayawada. Tastes much more south Indian than it’s Hyderabadi sister. And tastes better too. Be prepared for your mouth to be in fire and well, your posterior, the next day. I’d have given it 4 stars, if it weren’t for the appalling service. Slow.

My family loves this place. Everything we’ve tried has been excellent quality and super tasty… especially the butter chicken and pepper chicken. Service could be better but overall the food makes up for any other shortfall… and the prices are very reasonable.

Good Variety for Buffet! One of the few restaurants that serve Briyani for buffet, and which is aproper Briyani and not just a stir fry rice. Decent Goat and Chicken Curry! Did not care much about their Sambhar and rasam — just okay! Naan was very tasty and perfectly made! One of the best i had recently. Their Dosa variety was generous and yumm !! Will give them 4 stars for Briyani, Dosa and Naan :)

I want that hour and a half of my life back. In all my experiences in stuffing my face, this was beyond hellish. The bf and I ordered a dosa each(not knowing how big and starchy they were), chicken tikki masala, and a lamb rogajosh, along with a masala chai tea for myself. 30 minutes in, we haven’t received an ounce of our order, including a simple chai tea. Finally the waiter brings us a chicken tandoori, even though we ordered no such thing. He tries to convince us we did(but we always get some kind of tikki masala, so I’m pretty sure we know what it looks like). He gives the tandoori to us on-the-house anyways; not like he can pawn it off to another table. 45 minutes in, my bf suggests we just leave. BUTMESOHUNGERS. And being too nice for my own good and having never dined-and-dashed, we wait it out. We get our dosa, but still nothing else. If the dosa had been amazing, it might have been their redeeming factor. But it wasn’t. We were both so hungry, you’d of thought we’d rate it better than it really was. We cancel our other dishes cause 1.) I’d rather not wait another 45 minutes for it to come out, and 2.) it was THAT unappetizing. ALLHOURLONG, I was flagging down the waiter and waitress like an air traffic controller for my stupid masala chai. I was told the first time that it’s served at the end of the meal(how was I supposed to know? It was listed right underneath the soda), so I asked them to just give it to me now. I harped them every 15 minutes for a SIMPLE drink, but finally got it when we got the check(so what was the point of requesting to have it WITH my meal?). Worst of all, it tasted like a instant powder coffee without the coffee and with all the warm, microwaved, curdled milk. Where the hell was the chai?! I waited this long with this much hope for THIS? There was an Indian family seated next to us, and they had to ask for their water 3 times and 30 minutes. Seriously, how hard and how long does it take to serve water? We wished them a «good night» and an «enjoy your dinner» as we left. I can only hope that they were able to have both.

Bad and Shady food. If you are vegetarian then take a hard look at their Vegetarian Biryani before eating. I did a pickup few weeks back. My wife is a vegetarian and she freaked out when she found a small bone in her Biryani and that bone was end of my Friday. Also a bone can be a mistake but I checked and found couple of chicken pieces in Biryani. The pieces were not too many to be called chicken Biryani so it was definitely the case of common rice for Biryani. Seems they use common pool of Biryani rice and put meat or egg over it and thus I go t screwed. I was super pissed and called the place and after a minute I was connected to the owner. I explained the whole thing and was pretty mad at him. As usual they were ready to reimburse, send right food(delivered) to which i said no and they told me that they will call me in morning(to improve their process) also make it to me in future. So far had not heard from them. Any how this is how they F*** ppl’s Friday !! Apart from that food itself was below average. I had ordered north Indian food only and that was below average. I would say not a place where i will ever go again and would not recommend anyone to check this out.

An abysmally slow place that fails epically. This restaurant successfully serves its patrons in the sense that a kitten can successfully score a 2400 on the SAT. We waited a solid 30 minutes before we were served our first order… which was wrong.(Nice try waiter who tried to convince me that chicken tandoori was the same as chicken tikka masala). They decided to give us the dish gratis. 20 minutes later, our first dosa arrived. 15 minutes later, our second dosa arrived. All the while, my gf was asking for a chai masala, which was finally delivered to us after an hour of broken dreams and promises, tasting like the fecal sewage the Slum Dog Millionaire protagonist fell into. Dosa was average, which is surprising since I was so hungry I would have literally eaten the hard acrylic cups that held our bitter, tepid room temperature water. Our last two dishes never even made it as by that time it was an hour and a half into torture and we decided to just cut our losses and leave. I didn’t really want to stay seated til closing for dismally bad food. The problem with this restaurant is that they try too hard to grab as many customers as possible: the old axiom of greed. I saw a million of take-out orders constantly going out. They were trying to pull in the income without the necessary capability, capital, or labor. The Indian family next to me told me they had only seen worse service in some ghetto in Mumbai. They kept saying how they should have left for Olive Garden hours ago. I don’t know if they made it. God I hope they did. TL;DR Dosa wish this restaurant was hot like me? Not this place, trust me.

I was disappointed and I was thrilled. The idlis were mediocre. I make better ones at home using a tired blender that groans, in colder and dry climes. The plain dosa looked great but had a metallic after-taste. The punugulu(bondas) were really good. The ginger chutney served with it was also excellent, albeit sweet. The sambar and chutneys were mediocre. Nothing to rave about. The Vijayawada Spl chicken biriyani was excellent. The best biriyani I have had to date. It was fiery and hit the spot. My 13 year old could not eat it and doused her two spoonfuls with two bowls of raita. The owner later told us that we can ask them to make it less spicy, in which case, they would use less biriyani sauce. We were not given that option when we ordered so keep that in mind if you don’t like super spicy stuff. Also, the chicken is deep fried making it rather oily. We didn’t finish all the chicken in the biriyani because of this but didn’t leave a grain of rice in the bowl! The biriyani was served with salan and raita. The salan was perfect in its balance of spice and subtle sweet flavor. But don’t underestimate it as it adds a level of heat to the biriyani. The gulabjamuns were a tad too hot(temperature) but they were good. Avoid the sweet lassi as well as the salt lassi. They don’t know how to make either. Service was very friendly and prompt.

This review is actually for Dosa Bawarchi.(Dosa place currently renamed as Dosa Bawarchi). One of the worst dining experience. I am not actually sure if the food was tasty, since we hardly got any items in the buffet. We were quite hungry, so we scrapped(literally scrapped) whatever was there. We requested they re-fill up appetizers, since it was empty when we went in, after asking several times, they finally filled it up, when we were ready to have some desserts. But alas, there was no dessert left by then. The guys there just didn’t seem to care. They put chicken biryani in a tray above the label of Veg– Biryani. When I asked the person there, he said half of it is Chicken and the other half is vegetarian. These guys are just jokers! If by chance there was some food, there were no plates and silver ware to put the food in. Worst, worst worst service. Just to get a spoon at the table, we had to ask 4 times. They should just drop the Dosa from their name, as they tasted horrible. Overall, a very bad experience. The topping on the cake was that, even with all this crap, they charge full price for 6 year olds too. The worst part was we were going there as part of Mother’s day to treat mommy and we ended up having the first ever dining experience. Avoid this place at any cost. I am going hungry but never again going back in there.

not a lot of south indian places in the east bay. So it goes without saying there are definitely not a lot of GOOD south indian places int eh east bay Most folks have the stereotypical understanding of indian food being only«curry» and Naan — for these folks Dosa Place is going to be a treat! decent dosas and other assortment of south indian food to be found here If you dont know what a dosa is or what south indian food comprises of — just come here close your eyes and pick something — and you will like it

Another great vegetarian restaurant and oh so yummy. Lunch buffet was a-plenty and I had more than enough of my fill. Tofu, eggplant, DOSAS and a plethora of sauces and veggie dishes to choose from. A little on the spicy side for me and my daughter was with me and could hardly eat. No worries because I will definitely be back anyway. TIP: Dosas are included in the buffet. You can order from the regular menu as well but in case you are having a hankering, fret not, friends. Wonderful service and humble surroundings. For those that were expecting meat in previous reviews, when you pull into the parking lot take a look up. It does say Vegetarian in the title…

Apparently this is a hot spot for Dosa Lovers. Today was my first time having Dosa so, read this review with caution. The Dosa itself was just OK. I prefer rice, curry chicken, and pakoras w/chutney(Chef India-yum). Since it is called Dosa Place, it was only right to have a Dosa. We ordered 2 Dosa’s– one w/a cauliflower mix and one called Madra Masala. It was like a crêpe filled with a potato mixture. It was tasty and spicy but I would’ve enjoyed it more if it had a salad on the side or something. It did come with 4 different kinds of chutney. I enjoyed the tomato chutney the best. The whole menu is vegetarian so, don’t go if you are in the mood for Butter Chicken or Tikka Masala. Overall, this place was good and I want to go back for the lunch buffet $ 8.99. I feel like that will really give me a broader range of dishes to try. When that happens I will surely give an updated review.

I am a huge fan of Indian food and I have just discovered how tasty dosas are. I had visited a place near home and found that there is Dosa Place, right near work. Dosa Place is located on Village Pkwy in Dublin. I went on a Thursday afternoon — just around lunchtime and met my friend there for lunch. I really liked their menu since it describes each dosa. I decided to go with the potato dosa(please forgive me since I don’t know the name). It was served like a wrap with a few condiments and a lentil soup. It was a big portion and kept me pretty full for the rest of the afternoon. The service was great too — when we needed to pack up our leftovers, one of the gentleman brought us out new containers of the sauces and soup. Good stuff! I can’t wait to come back here and try other kinds of dosas. So delish!
