Last night, my girlfriend and I were looking for a place to eat, without spending a lot of time away from the things we had to get finished. We decided on the Italian Oven, which we do rather frequently. The Italian Oven is kind of hit and miss for us, depending on the server that we’re assigned, but it’s never an awful place to eat. Last night, our server was Erin, whom I don’t think we’d seen there before, and the experience was finally worth a review. Erin R. Was. Awesome. My girlfriend and I both agreed that the service we got was well above what we’d come to expect from the Italian Oven and that she’d transformed the experience from a standard night out for dinner, into a dinner we were happy that we chose to have out. If you happen to be reading this review as you pass through the area looking for somewhere to eat, my suggestion would typically be that if you want good Italian style food, without a lot of waiting for anything, the Italian Oven can typically deliver. After our encounter with Erin though, I’d say stop at the Italian Oven, and perhaps you’ll end up with one of the friendliest, most professional waitresses in the area. If this is the kind of service that we can expect from the Italian Oven moving forward, I know it will become a more regular stop for us.

Went here for lunch with a friend. We go here quite often. The food is always very delicious. No matter what I get, it’s hot, tasty, and the portions are excellent. The bread is hot and fresh and unlimited. The salad is crisp and fresh with choice of dressing and also unlimited. So if I was reviewing the food alone I would give this place a 5 star. Although the food is great, the service is subpar. Sometimes it takes awhile to get seated. The servers seem like they don’t want to be there at all. They throw lots of shade and attitude to their customers. We once had a waitress that seemed bothered when we asked for little anything. Even another drink. The last time we went our waiter was very unfriendly. He was very mono tone with absolutely no expression what so ever. We ordered water to drink and he aggressively set them down. Our straws were soaked with water and we had to peel the paper off. We asked him for more bread and said, «here just have this one», and tossed it down. For our salad, I’m not sure if he also threw the cups of dressing in the bowl or what, but both our dressings were spilled in the salad and we had to wipe the tongs off because one dressing got all over them. Because of that we asked for more napkins and had to ask him 3 times to bring them. We asked for soup to go and usually they give a breadstick with the soup and we didn’t get that. And my container again made it seem like he was angry at it and there was soup dripping off the side. Good thing I had those extra napkins. The food is usually really good, but the service makes it an unpleasant experience.

Stopped here for dinner as we were passing through on the interstate. The food was good(I have had much better though) but the service was slow and our drinks were never refilled.

While on a road trip through Pennsylvania on I80 we decided to make a stop in Dubois. The Italian Oven was a convenient choice for dinner, within walking distance from the hotel. The atmosphere is casual, including checkered tablecloths and a nice display of oils etc. throughout. The restaurant was very clean, including the visible kitchen area. When we arrived we waited in the lobby for a minute or two before we were greeted by the hostess so our initial impression was not great but that quickly changed. Our waiter was prompt, efficient and friendly. My husband ordered a local beer, Straub, which was great. The wine list was limited and only offered glasses or carafes but the Cabernet was decent. We were served a basket of warm bread prior to our meal which was excellent. I ordered a basil pasta dish which was exactly what you would expect but a huge portion. My husband ordered the deluxe Stromboli which was excellent and also a huge portion; served with a fantastic sauce on the side. Overall a great experience at a tremendous value.

I get sick literally every single time I eat here. It doesn’t matter what I have — soup & salad, pizza, an entrée — I end up barfing my guts out all night. I don’t recommend it. At all. Needless to say, I have learned my lesson!

Pleasant space, conveniently located next to the Hampton Inn, however, food is not good. We will not be back. Vegetables and chicken in the Chicken and Vegetables Penne seem to have come from a bag of frozen vegetables and frozen chicken. The Baked Penne was watery and the meat sauce was terrible. The Shrimp Scampi was bland, in a bed of limp linguini. The best tasting item was the pesto ranch dressing.

Lack of service. I love this concept. Even though their is a few locations. I waited 10 minutes last night and was never greeted physical or non verbal. I felt ignored.

Visited here on 1÷23÷15 for dinner. Ordered an Italian Sausage and Red Pepper dish tossed with olive oil in Linguine. This dish was very salty and the sausage was cut paper thin. Amount of pasta equalled about three forks full. Also ordered two draft beers. First beer came in a glass with beer brewer’s label and second beer arrived in a glass from a different beer brewer and was smaller than the first. Water had so much chlorine that it smelled and tasted like it came from a swimming pool. The only good part was the friendly server. Price was cheap. You get what you pay for.

Cute Italian restaurant. The Brick oven homemade bread is worth the trip. The Italian Wedding soup was outstanding and no complaints about 3 cheese ravioli and the baked ziti. A very customer friendly restaurant with pleasant and efficient wait staff, senior portions at all times and all the bread you can eat

For years I’ve been a fan of The Italian Oven. This particular location, however, just falls a little flat. The service has always been outstanding. Kudos to the always friendly waitstaff! The food and drink could be improved in some areas. During one visit I requested raspberry iced tea to drink. My waitress informed me that they were out. It wasn’t a huge problem, I just ordered Sierra Mist instead. When my drink was brought to the table, I was disappointed to discover that my soda was extremely flat. I then asked for a glass of water. I am a huge fan of Italian Oven’s fried zucchini. This particular location’s fried zucchini just never seems to stand up to that of other locations. It usually comes to the table soggy and cold.(Not much can be said for soggy strips of zucchini). Usually at other location the zucchini comes to the table piping hot and crispy. As far as the strombolis and pizza that I always get at Italian Oven — they have always been delish! The service as also always been fantastic! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good American Italian food. You won’t be disappointed.

Good solid American Italian food. The thing that made it really stand out on our trip was the friendly, prompt, and considerate service. So glad we chose to stop here in our long trip.

Ordered the veggie pizza for lunch. All the toppings tasted fresh and the dough was well made. Decent menu with your typical Italian-American fare. Reasonable prices, good service.

If you want bread and cheese and nothing else, this is fine. Otherwise, I’d take my business elsewhere. The waitress also rang up a bunch of random stuff with our bill which we only noticed after she ran our card and conveniently disappeared. It took over a half hour just to track someone down to correct it. It was pretty suspicious and looked as if she had done it intentionally.

We waited to be seated for over five minutes, no one acknowledge us or was in line before us. When I mentioned it to the manager he told us that he was understaffed. Food was absolutely the worst Italian food I have ever had. I ordered the chicken parm dinner and my wife pasta buillionaise. Don’t order these meals, I will never got back.

If you are in DuBois and looking for fast Italian food this is the place to go. The food is food and the service is usually pretty good. We did get a waiter we like to call Lurch, but the food was still pretty darn good. You really can’t go wrong here.

This restaurant is a find in an unexpected place. Like other reviewers, we chose this restaurant because it was in walking distance from our hotel. It is a cute place with pleasant servers and good food at extremely reasonable prices. No, it isn’t a gourmet spot with fancy ingredients such as you’d find in Chicago or New York, but the prices don’t reflect that. You are in the Pennsylvania not the east coast, so don’t order seafood expecting something fabulous caught that day. For what it is, a traditional Italian family restaurant, it is excellent. Your server will say hi and write her name on the paper that is on top of the red and white checkered tablecloth. You will get warm, tasty bread to start. If you order a salad, it will be basic and crisp with good dressings. I’ve tried two of their soups, which are very tasty. The pizza crust is excellent by any standards in any location. Wood fired. Just a note here, their sausage is a bit spicy. Their sauces are good and the portions are great. They have wine that is perfectly suited for the food and location. If you are staying at the hotel, they even give a small discount. We love this place and would be disappointed if after a long day of driving, we couldn’t look forward to dinner here. The locals eat here, too, so you know it is a good value and well liked. If you want to relax, sit down and be served, while enjoying food that will be pleasing to pretty much everyone, try the Italian Oven. You can also buy a six pack of beer or soda on your way out. We highly recomment the local Straub beer! This is a small town, so please tip your servers well — they probably don’t make a lot of money!

I travel to Michigan a lot from NJ, and have stopped at this exit untold times in the 15 years. Have never eaten here until Presidents day weekend. Cannot say how pleasantly surprised I was. Awesome delicious bread was served with packaged salad(hey nothing wrong with that) we were seated directly in front of the open kitchen and we saw him prepare the bread and bake it. Delish. The meatballs were pretty large, and very tasty. My kids loved the spaghetti and meatballs. My son ordered perfectly cooked penne and butter and received a very large portion for a kids size. I myself could not come close to finishing the baked ziti, and since we were traveling out to michigan, no way i could take it with. My husband also had the spaghetti and meatballs, and the adult portion was pretty large. Enough for a dinner and lunch the next day. Overall a really nice meal, if you are traveling through the northern route 80 area, it is worth the mile off road to this location. Much better than what you usually find along the way. Service was courteous and attentive.

An enjoyable place to eat, good food and a decent atmosphere. The servers are always very pleasant. I would recommend not getting any seafood dishes, originally I came from a coastal southern state, so I’m used to good seafood. However their seafood is not that great, especially if you’re used to getting it fresh off the boats. Everything else is wonderful and their desserts are amazing, so be sure to save room!

Italian Oven is kinda like Olive Garden’s little sister, but with none of the pretension or ridiculous claims of Italian authenticity. We came in with low hopes, but were pleasantly surprised. The alfredo sauce on the kid’s menu spaghetti al-fray-do was much more like what one might make at home than the stuff i usually find in ‘italian’ restaurants. The veggie stromboli was surprisingly good, with perfectly-cooked vegetables(the onions still had a little crunch, etc), with the exception of the rubbery carrots that i picked out anyway. The staff was very friendly, the venue neither too noisy nor ominously quiet, and very clean. If you’re staying at the Hampton Inn, it’s also almost right next door.

While driving from Chicago to the Poconos, we decided to stay in Du Bois over night. After checking into our hotel, the Italian Oven was recommended. From our experience, it was like a TGIF’s or Olive Garden. Neither of which are my favorites. The other options were KFC or Red Lobster, etc. So, I ordered the shrimp scampy. Unfortunately, it was very oily and the shrimp were small and very few in numbers. Neither one of us were pleased with our dishes. We might have been better off ordering a pizza from Domino’s or getting some of their wings. But at least we tried something different. if we are back in the area again, which would probably be another year from now, we will not eat there again.
