I had a great dining experience at the bruges downtown but the draper location just wasn’t what I hoped it would be. I love the machine gun that the salt lake store does but the ballance of flavors was off here. There was way too much sauce and bread and not enough frites and sausage. The sauce seemed like the spices where off. The liege waffle was delicious however so my trip wasn’t a total bust.

I have mixed emotions about this 3-star rating. When the first location opened up in Salt Lake years ago, it was a no-brainer 5-star delight. They served two things: waffles and fries, and both were amazing. There was nothing like it in town, and oh how I loved the occasional splurge. It’s never been cheap, after all. But boy, was this place great. You see, as they grew, their menu grew. Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue, but their newer items just don’t live up to the originals. Yeah, the Machine Gun sandwich is pretty good, but that bread though… And yeah, I occasionally get the Freakandel, but’s it’s so tiny and not filling, and yet it’s not cheap. I’ve had some good moments with the Ricky Burger, but I’ve also had some bad. And the stew? It just makes your fries soggy. But alas, they’ve hit a new low. Those new sandwiches that are served on the waffle bread or that dry new bun are just not good, especially considering the $ 9.00 price tag. That’s awfully steep for a sub-par sandwich. I don’t mind paying premium prices for premium food, like their waffles and fries, but I do mind paying premium prices for things that just aren’t worth it. I won’t go into the details, but the Italian was a borderline joke. This place deserves an easy 5-star rating for their waffles and fries alone, but they barely bring home the 3-star rating, in my opinion, when you throw some of their new offerings into the mix. Oh well, just don’t stray far from the waffles and fries and you should be good.

Might be good for desert but for a meal most definitely not. My daughter had the Turkey Bacon Avocado and the waffle was so crispy it made her mouth raw. I had the Machine Gun Sandwich. I usually can eat anything but I couldn’t even eat half of it. Its basically a bun with 3 link sausages and stuffed with French fries and a gallon of Fry Sauce. While trying to eat it, I was thinking to myself, «ten dollars for this sandwich?» I might try this place again but it will be for desert and not for a meal.

I recently went here on a Saturday afternoon for a quick lunch with family. We each got an entrée and the one I chose was an omelet and it was pretty good and came with fries. I had never eaten there so didn’t know what to expect or what to order. I even let the person know at the counter it was my 1st time and for any suggestions… their response was that it’s all good. I kinda wanted to know what they were known for… but…that’s OK. When I got my order it was an omelet and it had a small side waffle and an order of frites(fries). I sat down and started eating and then went back up to an employee and asked for some sort of frysauce or something for the fries and was told I could go to the fridge and pick out whatever flavor of sauces and how many I wanted. There were seriously like 20 really cool signature sauces that you could have from sweet to savory and some were spicy! It was fun trying them but I really think they need to help clients know that is what they are all about! We then all got dessert to share and my hubby and I had a wonderful waffle that had chocolate, crème and raspberries on it! I don’t think I’d go back unless I wanted to sit and chat and eat fries with a friend… not really a place for a complete lunch… at least not our experience! It would be a nice place to stop in for a waffle dessert!

I was so excited to try this place, and sadly I was super disappointed! First, they were late to open. Second, all of the tables were dirty. Now for the food. I paid $ 30 for 3 small waffles that were meh and I’m still hungry. :(

We visited the Draper location for breakfast on President’s Day. They were not staffed for a holiday. The service was slow and not very friendly. They didn’t have enough help to get out into the eating area and clean off tables from previous customers. The floors and windows were filthy and sticky. The area around the soda machine was quite dirty as well. The manager clearly doesn’t have his crew clean the restaurant each night. Once we got our waffles, they were delicious, although I do believe they are over-priced.

I’d rather eat one of these from the tailgate of my Honda Element in the parking lot of Olympus Hills Mall on a Saturday morning. Just saying… Fries? Oh, yes, I like fries. I like fry sauce, too. But that’s because I’m a Utahn and grew up eating Arctic Circle corn dogs and washed that garbage down with fruit punch. Being a small business is brutal. Reading a negative review of a small business you’ve put your blood, sweat and life savings into is even worse. Bless these people’s hearts and their effort. I wish them all the success in the world as they ride this fad as high as they can and then promptly sell to the highest bidder! ITNOJCA!

The bruge favorite is definitely now one of my favorites. A perfect sized portion topped with fresh sweet strawberries and their delicious crème fraîche(so light, creamy and amazing) I ate every last bite! The waffle itself was chewy and had a nice crunch on the outer shell. I thoroughly enjoyed this Monday treat and look forward to my next visit to Bruges!

What the frites? I loves me some French Fries… Like. LOVES, the crispier the better. I am that person who orders their fries«well done» off the secret menu at In n Out(you’re welcome). So what could be better than a place that sells Frites, which by definition are the the crispier double fried European cousin to our plane jane fry? I have been to one other Bruges one time beofre in Sugarhood and I remember loving the texture of the fries, but being disappointed that I was not giving the option to then smother them in cheese and/or gravy. There were sauces sure, but I wanted those crunchy critters to be swimming in something warm and awesome. Ah well… apparently not their thing. So this time when I went in I asked the guy behind the counter what was the ooiest gooiest frite option they had. He pointed me towards the Freaking Frites which was essentially a sausage and frites covered which a couple of their house sauces. So… the overall dish was pretty good, but the frites were more like fries and so it didn’t really stand out much. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if not for that fact that you are paying what I would consider to be probably too much for something like this. I don’t know if I just caught them on an off night, or if this is the new frite standard. I think I will give it another try just to be sure, though I might get it to go and then transport it to my home so that I can then smother them in cheese and/or gravy.

What a great place. The design of the place has a great industrial feel. The service here has been solid. We have enjoyed the friendly staff. They do a nice job. The waffles here are phenomenal. What a treat! I can’t say we have had a waffle I don’t like. The burger is phenomenal. Brugges’ burger is a unique and instant classic. It comes with«to die for» frittes. You’ve got to try this place! It’s on my favorites list.

Dear employees, The family that owns this restaurant works too hard for you to ruin the customer experience with your own contribution to ambiance(loud music from the kitchen which competes with piped-in music). When I commented to you about it, you said«yup» like I had just slapped Adele across the face. You are replaceable. If you’d rather sing to your own music and dance around the kitchen, may I suggest you work for a restaurant without an open kitchen. Thank you for your time.

Meh. I really thought this place was going to be amazing, especially when the guy at the counter suggested a different type of waffle to try, but really all I can say is that it was an overpriced waffle. It was OK, but I was glad that a business vendor picked up the meal because I would have been more disappointed had I used my own money. The frites are basic French Fries under the name frites, again nothing to ooh and ahh about.

Did I set my expectations too high? Probably. But hey, they’re the ones with the how-do-you-even-pronounce-it, fancy-pants European name, right? So, yeast. It smells like yeast in the restaurant, and it’s a very strong flavor in the waffles. It seemed a little weird to me, but maybe real Belgian waffles are really yeasty?(Well, the ones I had when I was in Brussels sure weren’t, but hey, I’m not the expert.) Either way, yeah, «yeasty» isn’t a flavor I seek out. The«Freak’n Dog» is $ 10 for a fancy hot dog & fries, and so you know what to expect, it’s more of a German style curry wurst with loads of spicy mustard and onions. Came on a nice baguette though. The service was neither very attentive nor helpful when I asked for suggestions. But at least they prompt you for a tip when you pay, after they’ve done nothing but ring up your order.(Does that bother anyone else, or am I weird about it? I’m happy to tip for service, but to me this situation is the same as if the cashier at the gas station asked for a tip.) My date got an omelet, which came pretty overlooked, and tasted pretty ok. Wouldn’t recommend it. The plain waffle was very light & fluffy, but again, lots of yeast in the flavor. The fries, though, are pretty great. Nice and greasy and crispy. We didn’t go crazy with sauces, but they seem to have quite the array. Well, that’s that. You can probably guess: I won’t be going back. For as much as I spent there, I was quite unimpressed.

When I heard that a new Bruges had opened up even closer to me, I was very excited, I have loved the one downtown. When I arrived the employees were all hanging out in the back and didn’t notice us waiting at the counter. We ordered our food and when we got it I was kind of upset to see that half of our waffles were burnt, and super crunchy. There was only one other table there, so it’s not like they were in a hurry. It was pretty disappointing to pay 7 bucks for a waffle and have it come out burnt. The whole time we were there the staff was hanging out talking loudly and cursing. It was very unprofessional and ruined the mood. As we were walking to the car a different employee was coming in and asked how our food was and I told him that the waffles were burnt. He was nice and apologized, he also gave us a ten dollar give card as an apology. I appreciated the gesture, but I don’t think I will be back to this location. I will use the gift card downtown, where I know the waffles will be delicious.

I ordered the club sandwich, it was absolutely delicious! I also had the Mirakulos, it was tasty coffee but I could not taste any caramel flavor in it, not even a little. My husband had the William Omelette, he wasn’t happy at all, the little veggies on it had burnt pieces on it, looks like the cook didn’t clean his stove and just scooped it all up, the fries we also pretty much burnt and the waffle he got was super greasy. So I really enjoyed my sandwich but overall not sure it’s worth the price. They loose two stars, for my husbands plate.

This is my first time visiting The Draper location, and I’m underwhelmed. No one was at the counter to take my order when I walked in. A guy came up front but was doing something else. He didn’t make eye contact or acknowledge me. Maybe a «someone will be up to help you in just a moment» would have been nice? The fries seemed undercooked and soggy. I was charged full price for them, but saw an add for $ 2 Tuesdays. But maybe that’s dine-In only, and my order was to go. My order came out several minutes after a couple who placed their order after mine. The Sugarhouse and Provo locations are far friendlier and efficient. There are some kinks here. Probably not going back for a while.

The frites are actually tasty. If they weren’t the little nub fries that cost me on top of my sandwich I would have probably loved them more than I did. The fry sauce choices are great! I tried three or four of them, the hottest sauce was not really spicy at all just contains the habanero flavor. The only downside is that they are so overpowering so I switched to ketchup. The veggie Sammy was mighty tasty! I loved how thin and crispy the outer waffle was with this sandwich and had a hint of sweetness. Plus, it has goat cheese all over it and well if you don’t like goat cheese than I feel sorry for you. I won’t go back unless someone insist they eat there(as in this case) because it’s not healthy, it’s not overly tasty, and definitely over priced.

I was super excited to come to dinner here. The club sandwich was not good at all. I immediately felt sick after having a few bites. The fries were amazing. The waffles on the sandwich didn’t have much flavor. I am extremely disappointed. The fries were great though!

This is a short review for me. It’s hard for a motor mouth to be brief but there isn’t much more to say other than Bruges is a solid place. Only caveat is the traditional stuff that it is known for. I’ve been frequenting the downtown location since five years ago. Always stuck with the torpedo(liege waffle with two sticks of belgian chocolate inserted inside) and the machine gun(baguette, lamb sausage and fries molded into one heavy ass sandwich). Really can’t go wrong with these staples. When I went there with family, they tried some of the other items(sandwiches, omelettes, light waffles) and did not come away impressed. But everyone loved the frites, liege waffles and my machine guy. My review is based on what I like and what I ordered. A Liege waffle is basically a very thick and substantive waffle. None of that light and fluffy crap. This one is dense, chewy, highly caloric and will put hair on your chest(man or woman). That last part of the earlier sentence made no sense but I’m going with it. Suffice it to say, it’s a good waffle. A really good waffle. All waffles should be liege waffles. They cook each fresh to order. These are not pre-made and warmed up. Last time there, we had the torpedo with crème fraîche on it. Oh my gosh it was good. That slightly sweet and smooth cream with the rich Belgian chocolate is a great combination. The frites(freedom fries for those who né parles pas Francais) are excellent. Natural cut. Fried fairly crisp on the outside and served piping hot with your choice of a variety of dipping sauces. Please, of your own sake, get something other than fry sauce. I’m no fry sauce hater. I love the stuff. But try something else(like the curry dip) since you can get fry sauce anywhere. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to keep even a brief review brief. Sorry about that. To recap: just go to Bruges and get a Torpedo with some frites and call it a day.

Draper, UT: What is it like when one of your favorite restaurants of all time opens up a third location just miles away from you? ITISFUDGINGAMAZING. Having frequented the original downtown location a million times, I have been counting down the days for this place to open. My visit last night with my friend didn’t disappoint. I ordered my regular: liege waffle with crème fraîche and bananas on top along with a medium side of frites and two sauces(aioli and lemon pepper dill). My friend ordered the same waffle with strawberries substituted for the bananas. The waffle was deliciously decadent as usual(hello sugar rush!) and the frites were too filling for their own good. Be warned: the frite sizes are outrageous as the medium is more than enough for two people getting their own waffles. Combine the waffle and frites and you’ll waddle away happily knowing that your pants are a little tighter after your scrumptious meal. Having visited this place a little after 9:00 pm, it was a bit busy but nothing outrageous. The location is clean and comfortable. Of course, your food does take a bit to get to you, but this is entirely reasonable as they make everything fresh. Also, kudos to the cashier last night. I didn’t catch his name but he was so pleasant and patient — he answered all of my friend’s questions enthusiastically. He was also a sweetheart and gave us an additional sauce to try with our frites. In sum, Bruges Waffles and Frites remains one of my favorite places to eat in this valley. I’ll plan on doubling up on my gym workouts because I’ll be frequenting this location on a regular basis…

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the opening of this location of Bruges for months now; I love the Sugarhouse location and have been longing for a closer location. I would have given this location 3.5 stars if I could, but its more of a 3 than a 4. This morning we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious and decadent breakfast of some liege waffles and frites. We were very eager to experience a closer option for our waffle cravings, and although Waffle Love is good, it doesn’t quite hit the same spot. Firstly, they were busy, and I mean packed! There wasn’t enougn seating for everyone, let alone enough standing room to get into line to order comfortably. As far as the menu goes, it’s the same as its sisters’ locations, although a bit less appealing to the eye visually; they are lacking the drawings and other colorful things that help make the unique décor. If you’ve been to the Sugarhouse location and then visit here, you’ll see the style is lacking in comparison, although it didn’t change my experience at all. The reason I gave only 3 stars is because they’ve got some kinks to work out and things to master, including technique, service, and consistency. The many times I’ve been to the Sugarhouse location the food was always spot on and amazing; I’ve eaten there several times and never had an issue or any complaints. At the Draper location, not only were they super slow and took about 30 minutes for our food to come out, but the food wasn’t consistent or how I had expected it to come out(based on my other visits to other locations). One of the waffles was see through in some areas, indicative of not enough waffle batter. The order of frites was about half the size as it should have been. The whipped cream was off, it seemed like it was either made incorrectly or else they ran out and someone ran to Smith’s and picked up some«whipped cream» made with real dairy, but far from being real whipped cream. The amount of toppings(fruit, ice cream, specaloos, etc.) on the waffles were more sparce than I’ve ever had before, there were only 2 raspberries on the Sugarhouse Waffle! I’m hoping that a lot of these issues will be worked out as time goes on and more experience is gained. I’m happy to give them another shot after some of the grand opening hype wears down a bit.

Bruges has delicious waffles and frites. The owner is from Belgium and this is the third location in Utah. The liege waffles come with a variety of toppings — fresh cream, fresh fruit, ice cream, etc. The frites have great flavor and Bruges has about half a dozen flavors of mayo. My favorite flavors are fry sauce, aioli and chive. The original location(downtown SLC) has limited seating, this new location has a lot indoor seating and high chairs. There’s a private parking lot, and a good location, easy to get to and park.
