Fred Beans Towing

Driver sent to my house for AAA call to tow my disabled car to the dealer for repair. When I told him the tow hook was still attached, he replied, «AAA does not pay for multiple tows on the same incident.» I explained that I’d had a frightening experience with my car breaking down Saturday evening on the NJ Turnpike, and that I’d had it towed to my home because the dealer was closed, so towing it to the dealers would have left me stranded there. His response was to phone AAA to report that this was the 2^nd tow on the same breakdown, and then inform me that he was leaving unless I agreed to pay him $ 125, the non-​AAA rate. I asked him why it mattered to him. If AAA dispatched him, they were surely going to pay for the (11 mile) tow, and he responded, «Because rules are rules and YOU need to follow them!» (Note that I am probably 30 years older than this young man.) I calmly asked to speak to his supervisor, to which he replied, «I am the supervisor.» I immediately phoned AAA and they agreed to pay for the 2^nd tow under these circumstances, but in the 10 minutes I was on hold with AAA, the driver from Fred Beans left. I had to wait 90 minutes, but was rewarded with a super nice guy, Chuck, from Elite Towing. His response to my ordeal was, «Wow, that must have been scary. Was everyone in the car ok? Don’t worry, we’ll get your car to the shop.» What a difference! So, if you need a AAA tow in the Doylestown area, ask for Elite Towing. They are a bit farther away, but they will treat you kindly and compassionately.

Driver was called out for a AAA tow for a vehicle that wouldn’t start reliably. After a certain amount of fiddling around, he got it to turn over, but it was still in a state where, if turned off, it probably (95% of time) wouldn’t re-​start. He refused to tow it, and left us to take a chance on driving it to the garage, possibly getting stuck. Made a smart-​ass remark about ‘not being a taxi for broken-​down vehicles.” When asked the name of his boss, said «I am the boss.»
