I enjoyed the appetizer, which wasn’t on the menu. Mac n cheese with crab meat and shrimp… the size should be larger. The presentation was fair with a bed a corn. chicken wings on point … TV s are great for games… event space is great! Drinks are strong ! Yes please drink! Dart was cool. I would recommend it… okay so I decided to stop by after work I made some great connections… I truly enjoy the conversations and the willingness to accept events from collegiate ordeals!!! My Co workers says thumbs up!

This bar could have been amazing, I’m a former employee here and unfortunately the owner did not know how to run a business. Employees have not been paid to this day. I was informed of new ownership but unfortunately the new owner has a lot of work to do to bring up the reputation of the bar. Running out of supplies and employees slacking because of neglect.

This place is extremely hard to identify even though it commands the entire prime-location«corner windowfront» of this large mixed/use office building/apartments/parking garage. There’s no ‘bar sign’ in place yet; no neon, no nothing! So, its practically invisible against the dull grey structure hosting it. You have to be right up close, deliberately looking through the Perspex windows to realize that it is, in fact, a full bar/restaurant in active operation. Then too, the block/lot upon which the building itself stands, is a pretty bizarre choice for a nightspot. Where Tillary St meets Flatbush Ave, a Brooklyn crossroads as ugly as sin, and this garage practically jutting up against an on-ramp for the Gowanus Expressway. There’s nothing at all in the surrounding vicinity which might even draw a single pedestrian. It’s all office buildings and honking cars. Not a single tree or shrub, even. Maybe this restaurant is looking to survive on the business from the new hotels which have recently sprung up nearby? Just the same, I can’t imagine too many pedestrians who would brave the six-lane cataract of motor traffic roaring by, to pick their way down these industrial arteries in nice outfits, just to get some chicken-thumbs here. I wish this place good luck; but have to say that interior-wise the Brownstone seems extremely generic in all its furnishings and décor. Very similar to a hundred thousand other places in town. So again, who is the target clientele who would go out of their way to come here? When it is so… undistinguished? It’s like a desert outpost, like a colonial rubber station established on a branch of the Amazon. You would sit here and just… gaze dumbly out at the overwhelming commotion of the car traffic thunder by, as you eat your meal. So: I don’t get it. Oh well. Give them time and see how their game-plan shapes up. Maybe it is a work-in-progress.

My husband and I have tried to give Brownstone multiple chances to wow us. We live upstairs and it would be super convenient to like this place. Unfortunately, every time we’ve been, it hasn’t been that good of an experience. Our first time here, we ordered the calamari and some drinks. The fried calamari took about 30 minutes to arrive and when it was brought to us, they had dumped a sticky sweet sauce all over the freshly fried calamari. That was a first. I don’t know anyone who wants soggy, sticky calamari. We recently saw that the menu had changed and decided to give it a try last weekend. Again– we weren’t that happy with the food and service. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t worth what they charged. The restaurant décor is also odd for the area. I don’t understand the name: Brownstone bar? It’s a new bar in a new modern building… it’s nowhere near a brownstone nor does the décor even evoke a brownstone. I don’t get it.

This place was empty when I stopped by for dinner and now I know why. The food was extremely mediocre and lacked tons of flavor. This place gets three stars bc I enjoyed the customer service from our bartender who made sure that we were satisfied.

There are few disappointments as this place is simply outright stealing from their patrons. Firstly, the night I came w friends their credit card machine was not working. Seriously? We believed that to be a farce. Secondly, the bar service was simply awful and we were charged a different price every time we ordered a beverage. One time it was $ 9, the other time is was $ 12 then $ 10. They were either overcharging or under, either way it was theft and simply unfair, they need to be reported to the BBB.

I can’t believe this place is still open. Over the past year we’ve continued to give this place chances to improve but it’s just not happening. The latest excuse for a bartender tried handing us beers that were nearly half foam. Dirty tables filled with plates and half-eaten food surrounded us the entire time we were there with no effort to clear them despite the fact that it was completely dead. At this point it seems like they’ve given up trying to improve.

We came to this restaurant one night after we’d ordered from them on Seamless. When we ordered from Seamless the food was outstanding and delivery was so fast. Because of that we decided to check out the spot, what a disappointment. Good points about the place — the food was still great. Bad points — maybe it was an off night but the service was terrible and there was some seriously loud music(almost like an album release party) but who does that at 6pm on a Sunday evening. When my boyfriend went to the bathroom he saw that no one was in there and the DJ was just playing extremely loud music to an empty room. It was so loud when we were sitting at the bar that we couldn’t even talk with one another. The bartender had no idea what was going on so I’m sure it was just an off night, but I don’t think we’ll be going to eat in the restaurant again. The bar was average. I guess I’ve gotten used to higher end liquors at bars, but I was also disappointed in the selection. I think the only time we’ll be having Brownstone again is if we order on Seamless.

Unilocal Reviews Brownstone first off, doesn’t scream bar from the outside or passing by in a car but luckily I know of it because I know the area. Once inside, the bar is setup nice, good internet jukebox, plenty of tables and bar space. The staff is cordial and attentive. The bathrooms are centrally located and are kept clean… a major must! I like the location, just off Tillary and Gold street, watching all the cars stuck in traffic while I’m perched on a chair enjoying a «SEMI-COLDONE»!!! And this is where we have our disconnect… On more than one occasion, on separate days, I’ve been served beer which sure isn’t ice cold and somewhat cold at best!!! One thing I can’t do is beer from a bar that isn’t ice cold! The last time this happened the bartender gladly helped out and got me a cold beer, not the same Corona but a different beer that was at least cold. I’d rather drink a different beer as long as it’s cold! Besides that, I’ve had food there and have no complaints. I’m surprised how this bar isn’t packed or even at least busier that I’ve seen it, not many bars or decent places in the immediate vicinity and plenty of hotels where I would imagine much more foot traffic in and out. Nevertheless, I will continue to hit this location for that after work, well needed COLD beer!

I came here a couple times earlier in the year when they ran football specials. Their wings are awesome! I wasn’t much a fan of the rest of their menu at the time as it was pricey and didn’t seem like a big selection. Last night I stopped in and was happy to see they redid their menu with more items at reasonable prices. I was excited to see they had chicken capricciosa, which was huge and delicious. Their wings were as good as I remembered. I will definitely be coming back more frequently!

Only complaint is no available outlets around the bar/walls to charge phones. Other than that, great service, great food, great prices!

Wait 30 minutes for the place to open so, I can watch the Open Championship. But, the complete idiot bar tender can’t work the TV. «I don’t know how to change the channel, there is a trick to it & it takes two people.»

Came on a Saturday at lunch time with a certificate. Ordered an Empire ale and a fish and chips. Yum for both. Though the fish wasn’t finger friendly, it was hella tasty and the fries were fresh cut. The beer had good head, was cold, and came from a clean line. The music was cool. Rock. Sounded like indie bands. Seems like the kind of place that would play classic rock. Decoration is classy: New York classic images, natural stone, muted color tones. The bar is stocked with expected corporate brands. Still looking for a small batch whiskey. No see. Anderson Valley NoCal beer, Empire, Heineken, Bud Light. Something for different tastebuds. The bartender this quiet day is cool and attentive. Here are my criticisms… Granted, it’s a new place. Management has changed multiple times since opening six months ago. Even the chef is new. So the menu has also changed. In spite of this, the menu does not offer what long time residents want. It’s catered more toward frat types. I could not order a small mixed salad and was not interested in Caesar. If I were the manager, and didn’t already know the neighborhood, I would look at the menus of the popular restaurants closeby to see what people are ordering. Then go down to 68 Jay St bar and hang out with the locals to get a feel for what people are like. Not only will locals say what they think, they will also come up the hill and check the place out. Don’t rely on these new buildings with new residents. They moved here because of how cool the existing neighborhood is already, not to make they’re own mark. The rest of the restaurant was empty except for one table. The waitress, bored out of her mind was on the phone almost the whole time I sat at the bar. I don’t care if I’m the only one in the damn place, don’t deliver my food with your phone on your ear and your mouth blabbing. At the least, use a headset and shut your mouth when you walk over. And don’t pace and talk. That is bad. There were no vegetable sides except for potatoes. Add some greens — and a couple small batch liquids — and it would be 4 stars. Since starting this review a cool guy, who moved in upstairs today, and his friend came in for some brews. Good conversation. Could be 5 stars without the blabbing server and some greens on the menu.

I went to this place when I visited NYC for a party. We sat at the bar so the service was good. The appetizers were really good. I had some wings and mozzarella sticks which were both huge portion sizes. This is a pretty cool place to eat and drink when your in downtown Brooklyn.

Very nice and sleek bar/lounge. The front is very sexy with the high bar stools and tables. Plenty of seats in the back for private lunch. Our waiter was very nice, friendly and funny. Very attentive and the food came very quick. Had the Brooklyn Burger which was very good but it would have been nicer if it was char grilled. Hand cut fries were nice. My friend had the grilled chicken Caesar salad which she enjoyed. We had a coupon we forgot to turn in after the bill was given to us but the waiter didn’t mind at all and he quickly gave us a new bill. This would definitely be a hot spot during happy happy.

I had an EPIC time here for my Office holiday party. Our waitress was new, but she did a great job at keeping up with us and bringing us drinks as we ordered. We ordered a bunch of appetizers(BBQ wings, buffalo wings, calamari, mozzarella sticks and fries) & everything was great. The biggest asset of this place is the jukebox. We were able to select our own music and we dance the night away. We went around the holidays so there were other small gatherings going on. We had to share the jukebox selections, but with the drinks flowing, we didn’t care much. Since it’s so close to work, I am definitely looking forward to returning.

The service is absolutely inconsistent. You sit at the bar you will be attended to right away. You sit anywhere else, well good luck to you! Has been open since September and the service has not improved one single bit. And for a «sports bar», not one single person knows how to operate the TV’s — it must be a secret that only the guys at Buffalo Wild Wings know how to operate. Food is definitely the highlight here, good portions and more choices than just wings, fries and calamari. Although the night we were there for dinner, the duck was off menu and so was the fish entrée. Seriously? To the owners(who btw are not from NYC), by all means fire up your staff –they either need major Tender-Loving-Care or some re-training in how to smile.

I wanted to like this place. Really, I did. I want a good…, not even good, a decent sports bar with decent food. Unfortunately… Let’s start with the name. This place is not a brownstone, in a brownstone, or brownstone-esque. It doesn’t have a stone that’s brown-colored in its construction. It’s not even physically close to a brownstone. It’s a bar in a cookie-cutter building(the likes of which have been over-running Brooklyn) at the foot of an exit ramp of the BQE, across from a firehouse, the 84th Precinct, and the projects. So if you’re looking for a place in «brownstone Brooklyn», this is the exact opposite of what you’re looking for. After working late, I came here hoping to watch the Brooklyn Nets and get dinner. The bar was not crowded. All of the 6 or 7 TVs had the Knicks on. One of the bartenders greeted my right away. I asked what stouts they had; she graciously offered me a sample of one, I didn’t like it, I order a Guinness. I asked what the best entries were; on her recommendation, I ordered the hangar steak. Finally, I asked if one of the TVs could have the Nets on; she said OK. A good start; I was hopeful… Abandon all hope ye who enter here. For more than a half hour I sat there. I didn’t get utensils for 15 minutes. Not an attempt to put on the Nets. My meal did not come out for at least 30 minutes, and when it did, it was quite possibly the worst hangar steak I’ve ever had, accompanied by some tasteless fried bread things and green beans, all of it barely luke warm. I’ve would have put salt and pepper on everything to give it some taste, but I was not given salt, pepper, or offered any other condiment. Come to think of it, I wasn’t even given a glass of water, or a serrated knife. While I sat there, I had plenty of time to look at what beverages they could offer; all run of the mill and over priced. At one point while I was making myself eat this meal, an employee did come behind me and made an attempt to put on the Nets. He was a nice guy, but told me for technical reasons he couldn’t put the game on just one TV, it had to be both TV’s behind the bar. Then he put on the Rangers. Huh? Oh, and the music they played. Loud bad pop music from a few years ago mixed with bad pop country music from hell. So unless your car breaks down when you get off the BQE, or you’ve just filed a police report and need the absolute nearest alcohol, just about any place is better than Brownstone Bar & Restaurant.

If you want to be screwed by happy hour, come here. $ 8 for a happy hour beer… egads &WTF! Oh, and I’m pretty sure our liquor drinks were watered down. Note that they allow the wait staff to smoke right outside the front door… Ughhh, that will make you feel welcomed… NOT! :( This place will close really soon unless changes are made.
