This place is bomb! Big portions and great prices. More than generous with their cheese and sauce. I don’t understand how it doesn’t have better reviews.

I had lunch here with a friend and thought it was a conventional Mexican place — good food but nothing exceptional. I ordered a two item combination plate, choosing a beef taco and beef tamale. The standard issue refried beans and rice were on the plate as well. As I waited for the order to arrive(just a couple minutes) I tried the chips and salsa which were underwhelming. The beef taco was very good — great flavor in the ground beef and the other ingredients were fresh and vibrant. The tamale was exceptionally bland; the masa was very thick and there wasn’t much meat inside. They did their best to cover it with melted cheese to give it some flavor. Service was attentive but stoic.

Ok so I have been to this restaurant twice for lunch but both times were amazing! One time I ordered the Mexican Pizza but today I ordered the cheese enchilada and I was not disappointed. Not only was the price extremely cheap($ 5) but the whole plate was covered with my enchilada and a small salad as well as rice and beans with cheese. Personally, I don’t think they should raise their prices, but if they do, I would probably still pay for this delicious meal. Also before the meal arrives a bowl of salsa and another of guacamole, alone with chip plates were brought to the table and constantly refilled. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants to go to eat at.

I have been looking for a local Mexican restaurant to be my go to place when I’m in the mood for Mexican food. Well Veracruz is it ! Everything I have tried so far is awesome. I especially like the hardshell tacos. Simple yet tasty and fresh. Have tried both chicken and beef. They are loaded with fresh cheese, a must for me. On top of great service and great food, this place is very reasonably priced. Go there for the food. The décor is not the greatest and the menus are hand written. Once you taste the food you’ll hardly notice the lack of ambiance. Veracruz is definitely worth your time !

I usually go to the Santa Fe springs location but on Tuesday I was close so dropped in here. I wanted to try something different than my usual order so ordered just a bean and shredded beef burrito. It was served so fast and so hot and so big! Drenched in cheese and the tastiest sauce ever. Before I even took a bit of the burrito I was dunking a few chips in the sauce mmm it was so tasty. Then cut into the burrito with my fork. Just chock full of the most delicious beef that needed no other seasoning. I usually add a little salt and this meat needed no additives it was so tasty. It was so big I knew I would be bringing some home for later. Well it was so good I sat there and ate the whole thing! And now I’ve made myself hungry again. I may go back today.

My first visit for lunch. I work adjacent to this location and its a better a option than Carl’s jr and boy’s burger. Their lunch prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. It’s an ultimate hole and a wall place with great service, great food and reasonable prices. I will certainly return.

This is a nice little hole in the wall mexican resturant. We were the only people in the resturant but the service was still perfect. The size of the portions on the huge burrito was massive. It’s three dinners in one.

Wow!!! Delicious authentic food! If you love Mexican Food you will love this place!!! Chile Relleno Burrito was so delicious!!! We ordered a side of beans and ate them with the chips! The salsa was sooooo addicting. This place is definitely one of my favorite spots! I will definitely be coming again. The staff is so nice and welcoming. Great for kids. We are a family of 6 and it accommodated us. Place is clean. The place looks hidden and small but it’s a pretty big place. You will definitely not regret trying this place! The pricing is very reasonable. The Horchata was really good too.

Very very large serving sizes! I saw someone at another table order a burrito and it was seriously giant! So unless you are super obese(which a few people in the restaurant were) I suggest sharing one of those big boys with another person(or another two people)… unless you want to be obese. The food was ok(Im not a big fan of mexican rice/bean dishes so I am not the best judge)… the service was like a 7⁄10(so pretty good). Food came out timely. Happy with service overall. Disappointed there was no ceviche because that is one of my only favourite mexican dishes. I defo think its worth a try.

This place has inexpensive and authentic Mexican food. I came here recently for lunch and had their 2 item combo with cheese enchilada and tamale. Food was delicious and inexpensive, under $ 10 with a drink. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is in an older building along Imperial Highway.

I don’t get the draw to this place. Way better Mexican food at surrounding restaurants. Every time I go here I am disappointed. Where’s the flavor? I had to add salt onto my tamale for Christs sakes How can a tamale need salt? Maybe I am not ordering the right dishes I’m done trying with this place, the only reason I go is if one of my co-workers drag me for lunch break.

I asked for the shrimp salad and I got this very wide eyed look from the waiter like«woah. no one ever orders that!» Salad is pretty big but the shrimp tasted so nasty and unfresh that I actually ate all of the salad and left half the shrimp. My coworker had a burrito and he said it was decent though– but personally I don’t think I’ll come back when there are other places to get consistently good seafood.

My husband & I went here for the first time today & really loved the food, it really has that home made taste! I really enjoyed my 3 item combo I had a taco chz enchilada & chile relleno with rice n beans. Also I recommend trying there lemonade it also taste home made Cons: This restaurant is really small there are no tables they only have booths. The booths are really really small so if you have a little xtra lbs you might find it uncomfortable to sit also it’s not that cool in there the ac seems to be on but still felt a little warm in there. Also there is only 1 restroom for women &1 for men I would say this restaurant is not for handicap & larger individuals because it’s so small but other than that we’ll be back again oh yah don’t forget the coupon in your local Penny Saver

I have a confession to make. When I go to any Mexican restaurant, I usually find a plate that I’m satisfied with and stick with it. This is no different with the Veracruz in Downey. I love this location, first of all. It isn’t exactly the most noticeable place even from the busy Imperial Hwy. I drove past it once when it was still daylight because the sign out front just does not stand out. I’m sure it’s well lit up in the evening, but I wouldn’t know because nowadays I enter Veracruz from the side street. I don’t believe they serve margaritas here as they do at the location in Santa Fe Springs. That sucks, but at least they serve Tecate and a few other beers. Service at this Veracruz is super fast and friendly. A few other Mexican restaurants in Downey have tried to entice my husband and I with their salsa, but Veracruz is the only one that prevails. In fact, if we dine in here, we make sure to take a large salsa to go. Currently, it’s $ 8.50 with tax and no chips. Had to add that«no chips» part because in my home state of New Mexico, the restaurants there give you a bag of chips for free with their salsa orders. I usually opt for the combo plate with a chili relleno and cheese enchilada. As I said in my review of the Santa Fe Springs Veracruz, I still don’t really like the rice because it is served with peas in it, but it’s still good when I mix it with my beans and add salsa on top. The prices were incredibly reasonable. Veracruz cracks me up because their menus are entirely handwritten, but this sort of adds to their charm. And they have so entrees to choose from. I took my mom to this location and she thought it was«a cute little place.» I’m not sure exactly what she meant by that, but I have no complaints. My table and dishes are always clean when I’m there and the food is served HOT the way it should be. Why are other Mexican restaurants opening up in Downey? Sorry, but they don’t even compete with this one in my opinion… Review #160
