I don’t expect much from hotel gyms but Esplanade also has members who pay. If I were them, I’d ask for a refund. There’s plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. However, the weights are old and covered in rust. Not cool. Oh and the highest weight was only 15 lbs. They have a decent size indoor pool. The locker rooms were immaculate within various amenities like hair dryers. But I just can’t get over the rusty weights.

Used to be a nice place to workout but hasn’t been maintained very well. Poorly managed. Pool and hot tub are dirty and beat up and a swim team uses it at certain times so members are not allowed to swim. Ping pong table is broken, medicine balls are smashed, and the basketball court and weight room is small. Perhaps the only real positive is that there is a couple of raquetball courts New management has eliminated punch cards, so now it will cost you $ 12 a visit or $ 56 a month. For about ½ the cost you can catch a special at Lifetime or Xsport and get far better facilities, more classes, sitter for young kids, 24 hour convenience, better and more variety of equipment.

The cardio/circuit room is small but the machines are all pretty new. They have the special little workout TVs on each. Semi-crowded on a Monday evening around the time of the afternoon rush hour but no wait for equipment. I looked in the free weight room and it was about the same. I did not check out the pool or the courts, they are in a different part of the fitness center, which is on the ground floor. This is a great deal if you’re staying at the Doubletree. Get a complimentary pass at the front desk. Walk through the walkway connecting the buildings(no need to go outside in the cold winter!). There are towels at the main fitness center desk for you. It’s a great setup for the business travelers.

I have been going here for over a year now and this place helped me get back to that special place: the land of healthy. Between the pool, the ball courts, the cardio room and weight room, you have plenty of ways to keep yourself from getting bored. Don’t come expecting the size and scope of an Xport or Ballys. What they do have is a place where you can feel comfortable and get a great workout. Anthony and his staff are very friendly and a couple teach class at the gym. Although I have never taken a class I only hear good things. Their contracts and daily rates are pretty darn competitive. If you are staying at the Double Tree hotel or work in the Esplanade do yourself a favor and get your ass in the gym. I’m sad to say that I have to end my membership in March since I am moving. Thank you Esplanade, we lost some good pounds of fat together, and more importantly gained some great pounds of muscle…
