We decided that it was time to make our first real mattress purchase — ever. To that end, we resolved to check out a number of local stores and compare their President’s Day weekend sales to get the best deal on this kind of long-term investment in our comfort. We had stopped at one store before Sleepy’s and had already resolved to check out at least two more afterward in the interest of comparison shopping. Sleepy’s was by far the best retail experience that we had when shopping for a mattress, with pillows that fit with our sleeping styles and an expert sales experience that worked for our unique needs. It’s rare to find someone who both wants to make the sale, and has enough experience to do talk expertly about the product, so that was refreshing. After about 45 minutes of trying out different mattresses that met our needs, we settled on one that was quite a bit above our initial price range. Even so, the weekend’s special deals made it a unique, one-time deal that was too good to turn down. We completed the purchase, scheduled a delivery, and have no regrets about our purchase. Despite the negative review below, the salespeople at this location do seem quite knowledgeable and willing to make a deal. While they swear they’re not into hard sales pitches, though, the truth is that they really are. We’re not prone to giving in under those conditions, but this was a good deal regardless. Steel yourself against persuasion upon entering and think rationally, and you’ll leave with a great product and investment.

While Sleepy’s has a nice bright showroom and the salesmen wear suits and ties, it’s all very superficial and just for show. They don’t seem to truly know their product, so you might be left out a lot of money and stuck with a mattress that isn’t right for you. The BF and I went in looking for a mattress. We stated our budget, what we liked and didn’t like in a mattress, and how we usually sleep — I, on my side and he, on his back… but sometimes his side… but sometimes his stomach… in any case, we thought it was enough information for the salesman to maybe narrow our choices down to two or three mattresses. Rather than point us in the right direction, the salesman asked us if we knew what brand name we were interested in. What? I don’t know. How often does one buy a mattress to know what brand to ask for? I only know brands that I’ve heard of on TV, but I know nothing about the quality of brands or what benefits they offer. Isn’t it his job to tell us what suits us? We said we didn’t know what brand we were looking for, that’s why we needed his help in narrowing down our choices. Instead of doing that, he asked us if we wanted a firm bed, a plush bed, or something in between. Again, we didn’t know. We assumed something in between. He then walked us over to this special adjustable mattress to see what«numbers» we were. These adjustable mattresses were pretty cool, each side adjusts to how soft or firm you like your mattress — not surpisingly, I like my mattress soft, but the BF’s preference was slightly firmer than that. We decided that we’ll stick with a mattress that better suits the BF, as he will sleep on it more than I. So we asked our salesman, what in our price range would give us a mattress that fit that description. He told us the price of the bed we had just tried(the adjustable one). It was well out of our price range. We repeated that we didn’t want to go above what we previously stated. He then asked us again to specify a brand so he could narrow it down for us. Instead we said, «This is our budget, just show us what you have that’s at that price or below.» He said, «Ok, give me a moment, I’m going to look up what we have on the computer.» Another salesman was on the computer, so we had to wait. During that wait, we decided we’d had enough. There were a number of beds on the floor that he could have had us try, but it was obvious he didn’t even know what he had in front of him. We said nevermind, thanked them for their time, and made our way next door to Mattress Express.
