This used to be a great winery. It WAS very friendly and warm, and the employees would strike up a conversation with you and knew folks as they walked in. Now under the new ownership it’s very impersonal and cold, and all about getting as many people into the tasting room and pushing the wine. No conversation at all. We were wine club members under the old owner but recently canceled our membership. Other wineries give you a discount for being a member, and that’s how the old Chatom was, under the new ownership you have to purchase X amount of wine at regular cost before you get a discount each quarter. This is just hoodwinking people into having to buy more wine. This used to be one of our favorites, not anymore. With all the great wineries in Murphys you can afford to pass this one up. The new owner should move it to Napa where big, cold, impersonal tasting rooms are the norm. I only gave it one star because there’s not a lower rating.

I have to echo what Lindsay A. said– their wines are great but recent changes have left us dissatisfied. We’ve been members for over a year– happened upon them on the way back from a camping trip and love it, and joined the wine club right then– A flat rate of $ 39 per shipment including overnight shipping– and the wine was really nice. However we somehow missed the notification that the wine club was changing– so we only realized when we got charged $ 92– More than double! They added a bottle but instead of charging a flat rate they now are charging retail prices plus 18 dollars for shipping! Honestly their retail prices aren’t bad and I understand if the included shipping wasn’t sustainable because most wineries do charge extra for shipping– but I really feel they could have handled this transition better– Why do you have to add a bottle, change from flat rate to per bottle retail price, and charge for shipping all right away? None of the things they have done are unreasonable but doing them all at once, plus the fact that we didn’t get all the emails notifying us of the changes, is just too much. We haven’t been able to make it up there as often as we would have liked anyway so we went ahead and cancelled the wine club.

Chatom winery was an unexpected surprise. They had 11 wines for their wine tasting. There were two whites and nine reds. I spoke to another couple about the Reds who said they needed to mature a little, but I thought some of them were quite enjoyable. I would go back again anytime. I ended up liking to tortugua the semillion and the port. And I am not even a port person. to mature a little, but I thought some of them were quite enjoyable. I would go back again anytime. Chatom Vineyards is always our first stop on our way in to Murphy’s. We love this place! We did miss Madam Chatom this time around but the place was still just as inviting. This will always be our first stop on our way into town and we’ll be back soon!

What’s with the giant frog statuary outside in the garden? It kind of toys with your mind of what’s to come. Suggestive of a secret ingredient? I hope not. Thankfully, the wine sips I stole from Mr. B were actually good. I am not sure what the tasting fees would have been, but ours were free, complimentary because of the B&B where we stayed in nearby Sonora. You might want to ask. We left with a threesome of 2010 Chardonnays, a nice, light drinking wine that was priced so reasonably, we would be willing to use it for cooking as well… maybe even frog legs? Pshhhh. Don’t let me scare you… Chatom’s wines were great and their pretty tasting room, while small, was a friendly place to go.

Good wine, pretty grounds, first 6 tastes are free or try them all for $ 5. Our favorites are the Sauvignon Blanc and Sangiovese!

Great friendly place. Inside is small but you can hang outside at the tables. Our gal was friendly and fun– she doubles here and at the Murphys Hotel– adorable gal looks like Mila Kunis. Gave us good info, pleasant and greetings when we saw her again. Totally enjoyed Chatom.

Stopped in Friday, November 7, 2014. Had $ 10% off of wine from WorldMark in Angels Camp. Was going to buy 6 bottles(they give a 10% discount and other wineries honored the WorldMark 10%, plus the wineries discount-especially in Murphy’s) and around $ 100 in merchandise. The lady pouring said she could give me 15% off of the wine but, if I join the wine club, I could get 35% off. She was not negotiable. We ended up buying 2 bottles with the WorldMark discount and one merchandise item. The wine club sounded good but with the attitude of the pourer, yes, it is not negotiable, I will never visit or recommend Chatom winery. Maybe it was the group of 10 or so that came in and overwhelmed her? Maybe it is just greed? Not sure. They could have made a sale and have a new wine club member. I will also let WorldMark know of this experience.

What a treasure to find in Gold country! Margo was an amazing wine director on our flights through the wine tasting. We didn’t feel hurried or rushed through to make our choices and the wines are incredible! You must stop by Chatom if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed ;-)

Chatom has always been one of my very favorite wineries. We always bring our visiting friends & family here for tastings and always with rave reviews. The staff are friendly & polite. The wines are always yummy. The tasting room is cute, too, with lots of fun little things to take home. Try the mustards if they’re out.

I was so impressed. The wine was so tasty(nothing offensive). I liked all their wines, but I especially enjoyed their chardonnay, curvee, and vino dolce. For just about every wine, they gave us a suggestion for a snack to pair it with(and had apirings ready. The entire experience was pleasant. My husband and I went on Easter and also received a prize for finding an easter egg. Very cute. Highly recommend.

Wow. What a nice place to visit. The wines are all around really good. Our favorite stand-outs were their Sangiovese, Syrah, Cuvee and their Sauvigon Blanc. Our host was very very friendly and made us feel very special. What a treat. We had cheese, chocolate and wafers with every course. Please, do yourselves a favor and stop by this lovely place before you leave Murphys.

DIANE was amazing… Very patient and attentive. Your Cuvee was remarkable as well as your Merlot which usually I am not fond of, thank you for the GREAT experience and beautiful picnic area :)

These are some of the best wines in Calaveras County. The wines are made on location. The tasting room is great and the servers are really super nice people and very knowledgable about the wines which they pour. I have made many trips here and will continue to do so.

Last evening, was the Mardi Gras annual dinner, the food, the people, the music was pure delight. A good times by all. The local hand crafted wines were outstanding! Support your local winerys and farmers.

What a great little gem! We stopped in on our way through Murphy’s. It was cute inside, nice staff and great wine. Lots of little snack samples and yummy treats. We ended up buying a $ 7 jar of zinfandel orange mustard… delish!

Terrific little winery! One of my favorites wineries. The tasting room is smallish yet bright with many cool items to check out and purchase. Interesting & tasty food samples. They also had some chocolate out! OMG — fabulous reds and chocolate — pinch me I think I just found a little piece of heaven There are some fabulous reds. Loved the personal touch as we tasted. We bought a few bottles and it was not enough! Seriously — must go back and buy a case YUMMMMM OK — just signed up for the wine club! Now I’ll plan my dinner around my Chatom wines!

Chatom is a really cute winery located off of Highway 4 on the way to Murphys. The tasting room is rather small, but it is quite cozy. They sell a nice selection of food items like bread dips and spreads. They provide samples of many of these delectable treats. It is always a good idea to have something in your tummy when tasting wine. ;) The winery is female-owned by a woman named Gay; henceforth the t-shirt that reads«our owner is Gay»(or something similar, I don’t recall the exact wording). Cute! My favorite wine from Chatom would have to be the Gitano Sangiovese, hands down. It is so smooth and has a great flavor. Cin cin!(cheers in Italian) I used to work at the Redbud Inn(now the Victorian Inn) and we served wine and cheese in the evenings. Chatom was one of the wines that we poured and all of the guests really seemed to enjoy it and said it was really good. That’s pretty good word of mouth if you ask me! ;)
