Hunt’s has been serving Wiregrass area locals and travelers for a long time. The food is good and can be great at times. The steaks and seafood are excellent and fresh. The best thing served here is oysters, as there are cold and served fresh in the restaurant, lounge and oyster bar. While the service can be hit and miss, the food is consistently good. The place is very busy when open, so there may be a wait at times to be seated. Be patient when the place is busy and enjoy the local place for what it is. Say hello to Tim, the owner, as chances are good he will be there roaming around greeting people.

I frequent this place when in Dothan and consider it a good to very good place for seafood, especially raw oysters. Pricing is moderate and menu selection expansive enough to accommodate a variety of tastes. Service is usually okay. This place is almost always super busy and the waitresses are always pressed to keep up. Kitchen doesn’t seem to have any problem. I have never had a bad meal and most have fallen in the range of good to excellent. However, the one ding I do note is the salad bar. It is so small that it is an afterthought. Needs to be expanded significantly or dispensed with altogether. It reflects poorly on the overall quality of the other very good food served and always leaves me with the feeling of how substandard it is. Take away the salad bar or expand it and I would be rating this place higher.

The staff alone is fantastic. We always sit in the bar cause we love the gals. The fried shrimp and oysters are our favorite.

The flavor in the batter dipped plumped shrimp is to die for. The steak I was presented was juicy and full of flavor. I will return.

My favorite restaurant in Dothan! Service is always outstanding, staff is friendly and engaging. I always get the supreme oysters and they are cooked perfectly every time. Their filet mignon is the best steak in Dothan!

Oyster were fresh and a bit small during this time. The steam oyster were steamed perfectly. The fried crab claws were good. I didn’t like the baked oyster as much. Too much cheese and very salty. Tried the sauce at the table didn’t really like it. I’ll stick to regular Tabasco sauce.

Went here for work Christmas party. Was very impressed with food and service. We had about 20 people that all arrived at different times betw an hour time frame, and the server ran his butt off getting us everything we asked for. I had potato skins — best ever, onion petals — great, steak and fried shrimp — cooked perfectly. The salad bar was fresh and I watched as they changed out items to freshen the salad bar. Full bar.

I have been to a ton of steak houses in my life but this is the best rib eye I have ever had. When we where living in Dothan we use to come to Hunts at least once a weekend. The oyster are also amazing. If I had to be critical about this place I would say more often than not the service is lacking because they are to busy for the small staff to handle. I can be very frustrating but is still worth the wait.

Started with a margarita and was very impressed. Visited the salad bar and it was very clean, little lady attending it kept all spills and stray items cleaned away and everything was fresh. Ordered the special, 8oz Ribeye and 6 grilled shrimp, came out perfect. This was a good choice!

Typical. The parking lot for Hunts is always rather packed so my boyfriend & I decided to check it out. There is absolutely nothing special about Hunts. Don’t let the cars fool you into thinking this is some spectacular seafood joint. I was so unimpressed that I won’t even elaborate on our food selection. I will however send out a little PSA to the folks of Dothan & Hunts. A salad bar implies lettuce; does it not? Well, Hunts gives you shredded lettuce. The only positive thing I had to say about that is I could fit more into my bowl for my ‘one trip’. To add, one trip doesn’t distinguish how many bowls one may fill on said trip. Personally, anything with dairy in it terrifies me at salad bars especially Hunts. Skip the salad and try the yummy pasta salad. Best thing I ate!

Always heard by, word of mouth, about how good the food was at Hunts Restaurant. Was in Dothan tonight and decided to try it. Bad decision, as the food was not good. Ordered fried oyster plate… fried oysters were not hot, was too sobbed with grease to eat… baked potato was not hot, was not cooked well done… just an expensive meal that was not good. Wife had fried shrimp and I swear the fried shrimp at Captain D’s are better. All in all, very disappointed and will not eat at Hunt’s again.

Very interesting atmosphere with part of the building from an old gas station. This adds to the experience. The grilled salmon was very good, but the fried hush puppies were worth it all!

While this was not our first choice for dinner, it will be next time!!! Quaint setting, friendly staff, and amazing food! Tried the Blooming Onion and what a wonderful treat! They serve the petals in a basket without the onion core and it is genius!!! Less grease, less struggle to pull a petal and no raw core in the middle!!! The seafood was a generous portion of perfectly cooked food! Cheesy cheese grits were so amazing!!! The highlight for us though was the service!!! Prompt, friendly, and attentive. Brian is the one to as for!!!

Food was very greasy. Wait staff bumped into each other and customers and never even said excuse me. No organization. Paper plates. really? No booths, just tables. I know my husband and I prefer a booth when we eat. Kind of hard to get to and parking is very difficult as well. Its called an oyster house yet I didnt see one table eating oysters.

If you’re looking for ambiance or good customer service, this is definitely NOT the place. After being seated, I waited over 10 minutes before being acknowledged and placing a drink order. However, I will say that the food is very good. I ordered the lunch seafood platter and it was more than enough food for one person. Everything is fried(no other option with this platter) and included oysters, shrimp, pangasius fish, deviled crab, hush puppies and a side item. Again, it’s a lot of food.

This place was a great way to break up the drive from Destin to Atlanta. The place was full and friendly, with a very homey look and feel, and customers throughout the restaurant were talking to each other and to us like they knew us. There was a ton of Alabama sports artwork on the walls, and I’m sure this place is a rocking hang out during football season. There were lots of great items on the menu but my main reason for stopping was oysters, and everywhere you looked there were trays of oysters on tables and the bar. This is certainly the right place to go for oysters! We had raw oysters — cold, fresh, and delicious, Cajun baked oysters — cheesy and flavorful but not too spicy, and 2 pounds of peel — and — eat shrimp that were spicy and delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient, and our waitress took great care of us. I bookmarked this place on my GPS and will certainly be back any time I pass through Dothan. Great job Hunt’s!

Every time I am in Dothan, I make it a point to go here. To be very frank, I actually make sure that I stay a night at a local hotel to enjoy a night out with the guys — with this being the main stop. I love the fact that they have 3 types of atmosphere here. They have a more traditional dining area, a lounge area and then a bar with a few tables nearby. I enjoy getting to pick the«theme»! The service is always good, and the food is good, but I wouldn’t call it exceptional. We really go more for the cold beer and oysters in the bar section. Pretty much for the experience. The prices are quite high, but demand shows that folks are still willing to come and pay, so no fault there. I love the little, almost hidden, burger on the menu. It is quite good and a great value compared to everything else there. I ahve had other things — with their fried catfish being really good, but usually get a burger, raw oysters and a few brews.

If you want seafood and you’re in town then don’t consider anywhere else. Steaks are good also, but not great. Typical southern casual experience. Good people. Clean. Priced right. Service above average. Blooming onion twice the size of outback. Impressive!
