Passing through town. Used Unilocal to search local restaurants. Saw that CACTUS FLOWER CAFE. When we saw the sign said «Traditional California style Mexican» we had to laugh. It had 53 reviews average 4.5 rating. Decided to give it a try. We were not dissapointed! The atmosphere is very nice, clean, and tranquil. The service was very pleasant. And our meals were superb. I had the Pork medalions, they were flavorful and tender, the Verde sauce was awesome. My husband had the rice bowl with chicken… He said it was very good and even though he was full he couldn’t stop eating it.

The south needs more authentic Mexican restaurants like this. It is the only Mexican restaurant serving posole in Alabama that I have found outside of Birmingham. If you are hungry, try the rice bowl as there is almost enough to feed two people. Service staff was attentive but were left scratching their heads when I asked if they had sopapillas (never found out, I guess they were hoping I’d forget). Quiet atmosphere and very good portions. I’ll be back on our next trip down.

This has to be the best Mexican restaurant in Dothan!!! The meal was fresh and tasted wonderful! I’ll will make sure to eat here every time I come through Dothan hungry or not!!! Also the servers are outstanding.

Truly remarkable food and service. The restaurant is small and unassuming, but the flavors and attention to quality are strong.
I ordered a margarita on the rocks, and wow, was it good! The salsa they provided with the complimentary chips was also very fresh and tasty, but the order of guac was something to write about! There, I just did.
I also had the Burrito, which was no small item. Likely the best burrito I have ever had. Filled with cheese, shredded pork and smashed pinto beans, the flour wrap was toasted to perfection offering a very nice texture to the dish.
I really recommend this place and can’t wait to get back to Dothan just to eat here again.

The food was amazing. The Queso wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Unlike other Mexican restaurants you could tell it was homemade. All of the food is supposed to be fresh, never frozen. You can certainly tell that it is all fresh. The Fish Tacos are delicious!

I am traveling for business and went off the Unilocal reviews of where to find a non chain meal. I admittedly eat ALOT of Mexican, you can say it’s my favorite and I’ve tried burritos all over. The El Jefe was easily one of the top burritos I have ever had! Everything about this meal screamed freshness! And the staff couldn’t be nicer! If I lived here, I would be a regular!

The Mexican wedding cake is a religious experience within itself, and the chicken tortilla soup is fantastic– the fresh cilantro and lime juice make the dish. Otherwise the fish tacos come with a delicious sauce, and the salsa is homemade.

Potential is here. Queso is excellent. Chimi is decent. Mexican rice is decent. Beans are completely without flavor.
Service was polite. She WANTED to do well, but had a limited understanding of the service and menu.
I ordered queso because there was no salsa mentioned… then they brought salsa with the queso. Nothing wrong with more, but I wouldn’t have ordered the queso if I knew the salsa was coming.
I asked for no salad, and the chimi was ridind high on a bed of lettuce and sour cream.
Might be worth a second try, but I won’t go out of my way for it.

The difference between Cactus Flower and other Mexican restaurants in Dothan is the selection and quality. Their menu is kind of small but the few dishes they do serve is done well. They focus on getting everything right.
One thing to note is that it’s quite quaint. If you’ve got a big party (12 or more), you should probably look elsewhere. They don’t really have the square footage to support more than one large-ish group at a time.
The staff are friendly and attentive. During peak hours, like any restaurant, there can be a bit of a wait. It’s not intolerable.
A word of advice, avoid the booth by the front door. It’s distracting and the cold blitzkriegs your booth like Warsaw in 1939.

Good, fresh Mexican food. We went for lunch and were happy with the portion sizes and quality. Service was good too. I particularly liked the huevos rancheros and the salsa and guacamole were good also. Lots of vegetarian options.
Atmosphere could use some improvement. They’re trying but it felt a bit off, as many before have stated.

Wow! Our 1^st big shocker is when our Capistrano Nachos appetizer was brought out. That alone is enough to feed my wife and 2 small kids. I wish I had remembered to take a pic of it for you before this ravenous family had ripped apart its bold and magnificent beauty. Our server was awesome with checking on our needs and very friendly with a good personality. I’m so glad we gave Cactus Flower Café a try.

Absolutely the best chicken nachos ever except the queso sauce was too much this time. Jalepenos on the side because BFF doesn’t like them, but omg, they are fresh chopped, not pickled or put up, totally fresh on every ingredient. I always get the guacamole with my basket of chips and salsa along with a side of sour cream and I dip and enjoy, then order the chicken verde enchiladas. Today just nachos
Capistrano with chicken. Yummy.

We’ve dined here three times in the last 2 weeks — our home is on the market so we’ve needed a quick getaway while the agents do their stuff. We’ve been impressed with the staff, cleanliness, and especially the food. We finally shared an entrée — the mango shrimp salad, which is huge — and an app of queso bites (it does? So that’s what we felt!) and of course lots of decent chips and very fresh tasting salsa.
Previous visits we’ve not shared the entrée and ended up bringing home leftovers, which we are OK with. So what I’m saying is, the portions are large, Marge.
Yes there is piped in music but funeral home? It was a bit too peppy for mortuary muzak. And there’s a small patio for those who want to dine while listening to the rush of cars on Monkey Highway and admire the blazing afternoon sunshine …
We will continue to patronize this establishment!

Best salsa I have had in sooo long. Freshest in town. Had the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos, hubs had empanadas. AMAZING!!! Lime sauce on fish tacos was such a refreshing tart surprise. Had the fried flour tortillas, like a chalupa shell, will be hard to eat it any other way. Hot tea is always a fav of mine, they have a blueberry herbal that is so comforting. Finished off with Mexican Wedding Cake, so moist and the raspberry sauce makes for a complex flavor. I am craving this cake again!!! This is my new fav place in Dothan!
