The Dorset Union Store is the best of Vermont personified. Owners Cindy and Gretchen are really great and have made this place a jewel in the golden basket of Dorset, Vermont. We are moving there, and this store is always in our conversation about the best part of Dorset – not only is the store amazingly merchandized with great food(esp. the frozen dinners) and deli, but great wines, daily New York papers – it combines the charm of an old-time Vermont Country store with updated services and merchandise. It’s even features(as the original Pelltier’s Market) in «Baby Boom», the quintessential Vermont movie. We alway feel so great going into t his store with our Golden, who loves the attention! Dorset Union Store rounds out the experience of the Dorset«green.» Beautiful, homemade soups and pies and frozen meals from a chef’s kitchen somehow mix well with white marble sidewalks and the puff of country club golf and tennis. Need a good wine for dinner? Check. How about an early morning coffee and a smile? This place is a good example of how a well-cared-for small business can infiltrate your life more fully than an iphone. Two thumbs up.

This is everything great about Vermont in one little store. The deli in the back makes fantastic sandwiches and don’t miss the freezer with their delicious prepared foods next to the checkout counter. Look to see if they are serving their maple ice cream, if so you’ll need to get some of that too. The store itself features a great selection of locally made items and familiar staples and the wine and cheese room off to the side is definitely worth a look. The store is located right on the postcard-esque Dorset Green, which provides the perfect spot to enjoy the sandwiches you got from the deli. This place is everything great about VT. Absolutely worth the drive over from Manchester.
