This food is amazing! We ended up eating here by pure randomness, but we were so glad we did. The place is not the best restaurant environment, it is more like a dinner type than anything else. But, never mind that, the food is amazing, everything from presentation to taste, everything was brimming with flavor. The peanut sauce was great, fish cakes was great, lamb was great, everything is great and I’m not exaggerating. This has become one of our favorite places to eat. I highly recommend it, and prices are great.

I am Indonesian, and I think their food is pretty authentic. I do, hoewever, think Batavia is still better due to few reasons: 1. Options: they do not have as much variation of cafeteria-style food 2. The place is so cramped and tiny, and the indo market next door is super unorganized and dirty, Batavia has more stuff and more organized Pros are the staff were very nice! And it is located in a better store complex than Batavia.

Suuuuper Authentic! They only had like 5 menus for my party of 8. But the sweet hosts and servers made up for it with the excellent ‘meatball with a boiled egg in it’ soup. Hope they keeps the good food up, because if they do, I will be a frequent customer.

Overall I was very happy about the food and flavors of this restaurant. The service was friendly. The spicy food was great and they have a few side sauces if you want to add additional heat. They have a menu and buffet styled options. I did not care for the eggplant dish or the tamarind soup but I would definitely get the spicy noodle dish and the chicken leg again. I saw a few other dishes come out that looked really tasty as well such as the chicken on the skewers. The restaurant it’s kind of small so large groups could be tricky. RECOMMENDED

Two years after our last visit to Indonesia we were so happy to find some good real Indonesian food. Oh how I missed it. Indonesian food is some of the best in the world and unfortunately is off many peoples radars. This place was perfect for us: cheap(5.99 two meat one veg and rice), delicious, and authentic. This is not fancy faux dining just great food, super friendly people and amazing prices. :) I wish we didn’t live two hours away– we will be back!

A great place for authentic Indonesian food. Batavia is good too but it’s Chinese owned so their food is highly influenced with Chinese cuisine whereas tempo doeloe is Indonesian owned so their food is very precise to how it would taste back in Indonesia.

Fried tempeh, made from scratch! Tastes way better than any other tempeh I’ve ever had. The texture is a little more coarse, as the beans are not as broken up. Also, the dipping sauce compliments it perfectly.

Food here was pretty good. Portions aren’t the largest, but the food isn’t expensive either. Next time I’ll need to try the plates. They’re really cheap and seem to be good portions. I can’t tell you if its authentic, but given the patrons, it probably is? Though there aren’t too many Indonesian places in the city to choose from.

Great and authentic Indonesian food. The hot line was fresh and plentiful. I had eggplant, beef rendang, soya bean cake, and squid. The sambal(Indo hot sauce) was probably the best thing because I can just eat that with rice. We ordered some fish because it was really fresh. The chicken satay had a peanut sauce that was just right and the achat(pickled cucumbers and carrot) that came with it was on point. Their house made drinks are great, and I think people of all cultures would like them! Everything tasted just like home. Very authentic experience with fast fresh food, and none of that formal nonsense that some other places have. Comfortable setting and Arny is the best!!!

Just too disappointing. The original crew’s gone, and with them, the cheerful ambience, quality and tastefulness of the food too. But did they change ownership again because the last visit couple of years ago the same team was still there — that strategic move preserved the experience. Guess it’s off to Batavia for Indonesian food now.

I’m a native Indonesian. I’ve tried several Indonesian restaurants in the US(in NY, Philadelphia, Virginia, LA, and also Batavia restaurant nearby) and I can say that, in terms of taste, Tempo Doeloe is one of the most authentic and best. I didn’t try the hot menu(with the option of rice+ 2 or 3 entrees). Chose to order Sate Ayam(chicken skewers with peanut sauce served with rice cake and pickles), Martabak Telor(Roti filled with beef rendang, scallion, and egg served with pickles), and Nasi Padang(rice, beef rendang, spicy grilled chicken, green veggies, green chili sauce) from the menu instead. All tasted really good, I cannot choose my fave because I like them all! If you never try Indonesian food before, I recommend to order from the menu. If you don’t like spicy food(I mean, real spicy) Sate Ayam and Martabak Telor would be good options. Nasi Padang is a good choice when you want to be adventurous and upgrade your spicy level!

At times, there is a random day where a break from the ordinary is not just wanted, but absolutely needed. Sure, we all have favorite spots and they rarely disappoint. Today, I wanted to try something different, something exotic and how much more exotic does it get in Atlanta than a dish from Indonesia. NOTYOURAVERAGELUNCHSPECIAL. I had their lunch special, the beef, the eggplant and boiled, then fried eggs in chili sauce. Now, I got a warning from the chef that the eggs are spicy, but they hardly are. The meat was great, reminded me of Indian preparations, but the side of rice with soy sauce was undoubtedly Asian cultural influence. WHYTHEDISAPPOINTMENT? The food was barely even warm. I understand that they precooked it, but the devices to keep the food warm were clearly not working. I cannot stand eating food that tastes like it’s been sitting on the table for hours. INTERESTINGDRINKSELECTION. There is everything from jasmine tea in a small box with a straw to tamarind juice. I had the jasmine tea and it was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Ps. Visa or MasterCard only accepted, $ 10 minimum for cards.

Another Buford Highway gem. We started with the Sate Kambing, a grilled skewered lamb dish. To be honest, this dish was nothing special. But if you’re a sucker for peanut butter like me, you may want to try this one out. We then had the Bihun Goreng. It pretty much tasted like Singaporian noodles which is always a good thing because who doesn’t like Singaporian noodles? The light sweetness and slightly crispy texture come together in perfect harmony. Finally, we had the Kwetiau Goreng. This one tasted more like a shrimp chow fun. Unlike the Bihun Goreng, this one had a stickier texture and a stronger sweetness. To be honest you won’t be blown away. But if you’re looking for solid Indonesian food with good prices, Tempo Doeloe might just be your thing.

My girlfriend and I dined here on a Tuesday evening at around 7pm. There were a few patrons inside but overall, the place wasn’t busy. Located in the back corner of a somewhat overshadowed shopping plaza, this place is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention like the other reviewers stated, but I used Quickly as my point of reference and was able to find the restaurant very easily. Inside, the place reminds me of a typical Asian takeout joint: brightly lit, odd chairs, hand-written signs, and an order counter. I approached the counter and was hoping to see a buffet of food, but it was empty and we had to order off the menu. Somewhat lost on Indonesian food, we asked the kind lady behind the counter to suggest three dishes for us to share. She recommended an appetizer and two entrees: Ma-Lor(Martabak Telor): deep fried crepes stuffed with ground beef, egg, scallion, and onion, Ga-ul(Gado2 Ulek): Indonesian salad: steamed vegetables, rice cake, fried tofu, egg and peanut dressing, and Nasi Salero Kito: rice with spicy beef rendang, grilled spicy chicken, vegetable, tendon curry, and green chili sauce. I’ve had plenty of Malaysian food before, but Indonesian food is slightly different and having experienced very little Indonesian food, I went into this experience with a completely open mind and a bit of naivety. I enjoyed both the Indonesian salad and Nasi Salero Kito. The Indonesian salad is a bit different than your normal salad – who expects steamed vegetables in a salad?! But… a good different. The peanut sauce dressing is strong and tasty without being overpowering. The rice cake has a delicious soft texture that when paired with the dressing, goes together perfectly. The salad is also loaded with boiled eggs cut in half, which is a plus for me because I absolutely love eggs. I liked the Nasi Salero Kito a bit less than the salad, with its chewy tendon curry and spicy beef rendang. This dish was also very seasoned and had exceptionally bold flavors but it was perhaps just a bit too much of an adventure for me. Be warned that the green chili sauce is very, very spicy! My favorite of all three were our appetizers. The beef, egg, scallion, and onion mixture in the crêpe was so delicious and seasoned so perfectly. The crêpe wrap, a thin layer of skin, was also fried to a perfect crispy light brown color, and absolutely fantastic. I think I ended up eating 4 slices – they are so good!!! This place is definitely worth an exploration. I really enjoyed my meal and the mom-and-pop feel to the restaurant and the kind service. Make sure you get the crepes!

Tempo is a small authentic Indonesian restaurant. I have never had Indonesian food before, but this was a pretty good experience. I feel like the food taste like a mixture between authentic Chinese and Indian food if you are more familiar with those flavors. The restaurant has only a couple tables so do not plan on going with a huge group. There is a plate option to pick 3 foods with rice or to order from the menu directly. I ordered from the cooked foods at the front since I had never had Indonesian before that could see what I was ordering. I had a plate of curry vegetables, beef rendeng, and fish. The fish with the red sauce tasted like something my parents have made before so I was really happy. The beef is tender as if it was cooked in a slow cooker. And the curry vegetables were exactly what you expect them to taste like. They really do load up tour plate for $ 7. It truly is a good deal with tons of flavors. Very good. I would definitely go back. They take cash only if you spend under $ 10!

3.5 star. Never had Indonesian food so I got the $ 7 combo: three items off the«hot» bar. Beef rendang: FLAVORful. The sauce totally makes up for the meat that is not quite as tender as the chicken. Which leads me to the… Chicken curry: tender but not as flavorful as the beef rendang. Chili eggplant: tender, flavorful, a bit sweet interiorly enough Coconut rice: meh. Didn’t have coconut aroma that I expected. Not worth paying extra for. Nothing too impressive. Easy, convenient, budget meal to get on the go or to quickly eat on the spot. A lot of parking available as it shares a lot with other businesses.

I’m a big fan of Indonesian food but Tempo Doeloe does’t compare(in my opinion) to Batavia. The selection is a bit minimal and the portions aren’t as generous as Batavia. Tempo Doeloe is located right off Buford Hwy inside a complex that you can easily pass if you aren’t too observant. We almost missed it, but saw that someone had mentioned Quickly was by here. So, upon seeing Quickly we drove into here and BEHOLD! Tempo Doeloe. We ordered the 3 item combo for $ 6.49. I chose the fried egg/tofu, fried tilapia, and chili eggplant. I think the food is a bit over sauced and the flavors tasted similar from item to item. The fried egg/tofu had the same spicy level as the chili eggplant. Not sure I’ll be back. I prefer Batavia.

Tempo Deloe is a very spartan Indonesian restaurant in an area of Buford Highway thats crowded with lots of good eats. The food is decent and the folks who work there are as polite as can be. The food comes at a great price at lunch, $ 7 for three types of food and rice, but the service, ambiance and food quality left me in the position of recommending this place, if you want something slightly different than Thai/Malaysian and happen to be in the area. I was in search of something different. I had Southeast Asian cuisine in mind. But Tamarind in Colony Square owns Thai — and is a little more upscale and less homestyle than I was looking for. I wanted to have a cultural experience as much as anything. So indonesian, with it’s Arabic influences on South Asian cuisine, seemed perfect, even though I have never had it before. The restaurant is playing Indonesian television,(check), there are other Indonesian customers(check), the menu is also in Indonesian(check, check). So the experience felt authentic. The food is, at lunch, OK. I had rice(which was dried out and not great.) That was a little disappointing given how easy that is to make. The beef rendang was decent. A little more Middle Eastern flavored than perhaps the same dish at local Malaysian places. I had a fritter which was deep fried sort of pancacke. I enjoyed that. And a yellow curry eggplant. That was decent. The meal came to $ 6.49, which for the food you get is a great bargain. Here’s the two issues. First, there is no table service. That takes away from the experience slightly.(Also no alcohol to help that along.) Second, is that I actually would be willing to pay more for an entrée for super well done food. But I wasn’t blown away enough with what I had to be sure that that place sold it. It might. It could well be that if you ordered a la carte that you could get a meal you’d truly enjoy. So with that in mind, I ordered Oxtail Soup. It was like a Chinese take on the dish, IMHO. Oxtails were good, but flavor muted in a soup that was sort of like a scallion soup with Oxtails. Again good, but not mind blowing. That’s kind of an issue and prevents it from getting 4 stars. Particularly since Chef Liu’s dumplings and Bo Garden’s curry cod are right around the corner.(There’s Nam Phoung up the street too.) So I’d have to go past those places to give this place a second chance and I am not one hundred percent sure it’s worth it. It could be, but my meal didn’t let me know that. All in all, it’s a good experience into Indonesian food. But the serious focus on low cost I think takes away from the possibility of a truly great meal. And for many that’s the reason to head out to eat.

Indonesian food… where have you been all my life?! I literally cried on the inside for not having tried you earlier. Thanks to Unilocal I decided to venture out of my comfort zone to try this little gem. The place is located in the same shopping center as Quickly off Buford Hwy. It also had an Indonesian market next door, which was closed during dinner time. We were greeted by a really nice lady who explained all the entrees to our pretty clueless group minus one person who had actually been to Indonesia. Like the other reviewers mentioned, they had a lunch special but for dinner we ordered entrees from the menu. Everything was so cheap, less than $ 10 for most entrees and portions were very generous. We ended up ordering: — Nasi goreng(Indonesian Fried Rice): This stuff is addictive. Just think of the best fried rice you’ve ever had. Packed with flavor. Came with chicken. I’m salivating thinking about it. — Sate Ayam & Lontong(Chicken Skewers): Not my favorite. I thought the meat was a little dry. The peanut sauce that came with it was lovely. — Mie Ayam(Chicken Noodle Soup): Lacked a good portion of meat but holy smokes the noodles had so much flavor I didn’t even need meat. It also comes with a separate container of broth with 2 pork meatballs so you can decide if you want wet or dry noodles. — Nasi Salero Kito(Rice with beef rendeng, grilled spicy chicken, vegetables, tendon curry and green chilli sauce): This one was pretty intense with flavor. You must really love curry and green chilli to enjoy this dish. Writing this review just gave me the biggest craving to come back here. Definitely a must try if you love food that packs a lot of flavor and different spices. My friend who just recently came back from Indonesia gives this place a big thumbs up. I also cannot wait to try the competitor, Batavia.

Never eat here on an empty stomach, the spicy curries could kill a man. But for a post work out meal, definite win. I came with a friend and he knew exactly what to order, while I was a little lost. We ordered a dish in coconut curry that comes with steamed white rice and a noodle dish. The noodles were essentially just stir fried lo-mein, but drenched in saucy goodness and topped with deep fried shrimp chips. I have no idea what the other dish was called. All i know is I need more. Creamy, coconutty goodness. Goes well with rice. I’ll have to ask my friend what it was. But I posted a picture below, maybe the lady at the counter can give you a hint. I’m not sure I would venture out here alone, but here’s to cheap, delicious eats!
