The good: The food is tasty, arrives really quickly and is a great price. I had a combo plate with a chalupa, taco and chile relleno and I think the whole thing cost less than $ 7. I also had a small margarita for $ 4.75 and it was sufficiently strong and definitely not small in the traditional sense. I’ve heard other people mention poor service, but we had no issues at all. We were helped promptly and even had several others stop by to make sure our needs were addressed. The bad: The booths definitely need to be reupholstered. Ours was ripped in more than a few places. I’m curious why they didn’t redo them with the rest of the décor, which is nice and festive. There menu also has more typos than any other menu I’ve ever seen. Just on the liquor menu, they mentioned«But Lite,» «Jhonnie Walker,» «Obsolut» and«Virgen Daiquiris.»(Yes, this has nothing to do with food, but I’m an editor by trade and these things make me twitch.) Overall, I thought my food was great and a terrific value. We’ll be back!

My husband and I dined there on 3÷1÷13. The place still smells of chinese food from the previous restaurant when you walk in. The service was incredibly horrible. It looked like they didn’t have nearly enough wait staff for the full dining room. They didn’t have any busboys to clean tables so tables sat dirty while lots of people were stuck waiting. The staff didn’t pay much attention to anyone — we weren’t sure who our waiter actually was. The food was ok, but took forever to get there and then we waited a very, very long time for someone to get our check. The décor is cheap, they kept the old tables and chairs from the last restaurant. They also kept the asian style screen for some reason. No one was working the bar so you couldn’t sit there while waiting for a clean table. For some reason, there are no women working there — at least not any we saw — seems odd. I’m predicting that unless they get their act together in serving people and paying attention to them, this is going to be another restaurant failure in this building.

I have been waiting for a Mexican restaurant like Mr. Tequila to come to this area for a while. There are other options around, but none of them have the authentic taste that I have been looking for. Some places rely too heavily on cheese, and others taste like franchise fast food Mexican(not talking about Taco Bell here either). First, the wait staff is great. I have yet to have an unfriendly or uncaring waiter. They constantly check in to make sure everything is OK, and are quick to take care of things. Second, the prices are very reasonable here. From a beer to a full dinner, I would expect to pay exactly what they are charging. Third, and most important, the quality of the food is excellent. Win number 1: they have white queso available for a side. This sounds like such a simple thing, but there are so many places that only serve nacho cheese. Win number 2: their guacamole is superb. It is a little chunkier than other places, contains a bit more cilantro, but is actually quite good. Win number 3: they use a red sauce on their burritos. When I dined at the other Mexican restaurants around here I was a little surprised to find they didn’t offer a red sauce. Thank you for this, Mr. Tequila! Win number 4: they have a great vegetarian menu. This will only apply to a small group of people, but it is great to have. Win number 5: as you would assume with their name, they have a great tequila selection. I don’t recommend that you get the American food here. I haven’t had it, and it may be very good, but when you go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant you should judge the quality of the establishment by what they do best.(This comment is based on a colleague denouncing Mr. Tequila based on a hamburger.) Overall — great place, great food, and a pleasant addition to Dixon.
