When I was first taken here, it was during finals week, extremely late at night and during my undergrad at UCD. Since this shop was located out in the middle of nowhere, I was creep-ed out and worried if the area was safe. My friend laughed at me and pointed at the three cop cars in the lot and said it was safe. I countered, well maybe they need all those cops BECAUSE it’s not safe. My friend actually dragged me over to the officers and had them tell me whether or not this café was safe or not(which they laughed and said it was). Since then, this was my go-to spot to study late into the night since they were open 24hrs, had free wi-fi, lots of outlets, and a yummy white chocolate mocha. They had a room on the side full of the extremely long brown fold-able tables with long extension cords with extra outlets so you didn’t have to fight people to charge your phone or laptop while you’re studying. Cell phones had to be turned off and no crying kids were allowed in the«study room.» Shame they closed down and glad I’m not a student anymore because there’s not many places around Davis that had the essentials needed for pulling an all-niter.

Too bad John W. ever sold it. I twas a cool place to be back then, and he was always so nice… the next owner wasn’t so nice, and really didn’t know how to run it.(as everyone around here’s been saying) Hated to see it go, though…

As another regular and I have put it, this is «home away from home.» It has been suggested that I start paying rent here. Enough said. ***RIP as of June 6, 2008.*** :(

Java California has good coffee, a homey feel with the board games, and is a haven for anyone who needs a place to study — they have a designated«study room» which means no crying babies, no obnoxious teens on cellphones, and no stressing about the workers kicking you out at closing time(Sunday through Thursday they’re 24⁄7 — they may have upgraded to everyday, but it’s been a year or two since I’ve been to JC).

As an ex– UC Davis undergrad(now Alumni), this is a great place to study and get coffee 24 hours a day! Yep… the only coffee shop that I have found that is 24hrs. As an ex-Starbucks worker, the coffee is not that bad + they have flavored whipped cream. They also have different snacks that you can purchase. They also have an area with comfty chairs and tables for people to study. Recommend Davis students or any college students to study here!

Almond Roca Mocha!!! If you are fond of the candy as much as I am, then you must try this drink topped with caramel whipped cream. Besides this place is open 24 hours, carries fresh Krispy Crème donuts, offers free Wi-Fi, and the owners don’t mind that you bring in food from other restaurants. This is a nice spot for college students to hang out, cram for finals, or relax with friends. The décor is sporadic and mix-matched, but extremely comfy with ergonomic chairs and wide couches. There are several areas to get situated in, including a game area complete with board games and reclining chairs, a children’s play room, and a small conference room. I used to visit this place often, when I lived in Sacramento, but still find the time to drive up from Vallejo when I’m craving something yummy around midnight.
