The Pioneer pizza was delicious! The owner Lou made sure we had a great ½ tray! Sauce was an old recipe he says from two different sauce types, one with Asiago cheese. It stuck to my teeth but not too much that it’s ignorant like that gooey old forge style. It’s a nice cozy bar. The beer specials are just what we were looking for. Oh we did start off with the home made meat platter with bread. It was a mouth watering italian meat delight. I recommend this little bar on Main Street Dickson City. Just the right kinda place.

Two friends and I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We sat in the bar area and some one came over to give us menus and take our drink order. Notice I didn’t say greet us, because she didn’t. No hello or even a smile, just a stone-faced monotone«something to drink?» But whatever, that was the last we saw of her and the other server was very friendly. After looking over the menu a lot of things sounded pretty good and we couldn’t believe that the prices were so low. So I ordered Chicken Cangiano, chicken tomatoes and olives tossed with penne in a light cream sauce. One friend ordered a chicken cheese steak and another ordered fresh cut fries and calamari. We also got an order of hot wings to share. About a minute later we were told they were out of fresh cut fries. So we asked for pierogi instead. Nope, out of them too. So we ordered mozzarella sticks. We also found out the hard way that they were out of cranberry juice. How does a bar run out of cranberry juice, especially when it is practically across the street from Giant? First off the cook needs a lesson in frying. The wings were not crispy at all, they needed at least another five minutes in the fryer or else the fryer want hot enough. The calamari was actually creamy where the batter didn’t cook, not to mention it was totally lacking salt. And the french fries that came with the chicken cheese steak were pretty white and mushy. We were informed that these were frozen fries and not the fresh cut fries they were out of. And second off the cook really needs to lay off the garlic. My Chicken Cangiano had such an assertive raw garlic smell that I didn’t even want to taste it. But I did taste the penne, which was overcooked and under-salted, and the taste of raw garlic was so overpowering that I couldn’t eat it. One friend declined to taste it due to the smell and the other friend did taste it and said«WOW! That’s way too garlicky!» And all three of us are Italian. Severely Italian, like really guido/guidette looking Italian. Like my mom has a mustache Italian. They did take my dinner off the bill and I ate half of the chicken cheese steak, which I enjoyed. The server asked if I’d like my dinner wrapped to go but I declined, we’d never get the garlic stink out of the car.
