Food is just OK. The takeout seems like it’s kind of small portions. And they don’t allow open carry

I have been going to Szechuan Garden in Dickinson & League City since I was a kid, in about 1983 or so. I mostly patronize the location in League City, though. I have also traveled throughout the U.S., including New York & places in California and I have NEVER had Americanized Chinese food this good! Where else would you find egg rolls the size of burritos, filled with toothy cabbage & yummy pork? Where else would you find wonton soup with slices of roasted pork & green onion floating in an almost clear broth, not to mention wontons the perfect size, filled with pork? I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the best place for Chinese food. I have introduced Szechuan Garden to many people and they all agree that this is the absolute best! I hope, for my sake that they never change owners, or try to get creative & change the menu or recipes. Unfortunately, I never get to go now, because I live too far, but when I go down to Dickinson or League City, this is my first stop! I envy relatives that still get to go on a weekly basis! Anybody that gives this place a bad review is quite obviously, not a native to the Gulf Coast area… Do NOT diss the Szechuan Garden!

Food is great. Best in Dickinson. The owners need to hire more wait staff, though. Only two girls doing everything and the place was just about full at lunch.

I’m from out of town and found this restaurant on Unilocal. The good reviews were very misleading and I left extremely disappointed. The chicken was chewy and the breading soggy. Not enough rice and stale fortune cookies. And if that weren’t enough, the food was grossly overpriced. I would recommend eating elsewhere.

Best Chinese food in Dickinson. The sesame chicken on the lunch menu was terrific with the rice and egg roll. Wonton was delicious. It was lunch and the place was packed with only two girls doing everything. As always they were very nice, but management should hire one other server.

I wish I had discovered this place earlier, I live in Galveston, where there aren’t very many good Chinese options. Szechuan is your classic Chinese restaurant, with all the usual dishes, quite tasty, especially liked the wonton soup.

Called in an order to go a couple days ago. I asked for the spicy chicken with mixed vegetables with a couple egg rolls. They don’t know what spicy is. The egg rolls were almost burnt. Should have driven the extra few miles to 888. They are SO much better than this place. I will NEVER be back at this restaurant again.

Now I also know why there’s no cars there the food was bland and dry like it had been cooked and sat there all day

If you’re craving Chinese food and don’t want to drive all the way to the Bellaire area, this is the place to go! This is also a great lunch spot with lots of great options and cheap prices. Great service, the waitstaff is friendly, and the Kung Pao Chicken is delicious!

BEST Chinese food in Bay Area and so far better than any I’ve tried in Houston. Honest, old fashioned flavor without all the new fusion fluff. Excellent Egg Foo Young, great Fried Rice, can’t beat their Szechuan Garden Combination. I have had better egg rolls and dumplings, but I just fill up on their other amazing dishes. If you want the kind of Chinese Food you grew up with, check it out!

Worse Chinese food I have ever had. The wife had general tso chicken. This was average at best with big pieces of dark meat full if cartilage and other non edible meat. I had the roasted pork with vegetables in a brown sauce. The pork would have been used as a coaster. Very chew and barely edible. The big kicker is the steamed rice was hard and could choke a pigeon. Tea was old and not fresh brewed. The staff was the high light as they were friendly and attentive to bringing the food or filling the drinks.

We ordered pickup from Szchuan Garden on 9÷2÷12. I got the General Tso’s chicken, my wife got the beef and broccoli, and her sister got orange chicken. For my meal, the chicken was great quality but the sauce was not quite strong enough. The pieces of chicken were also so large it took 3 or more bites to eat it. This results in getting less sauce on each piece unless you cut them up and dunk them back in the sauce. The amount of white rice that I got was good, but it was lumped together with my sister in law’s rice so it was hard to tell how much they gave each of us. For my wife her beef and broccoli was ok, but she decided to upgrade for an extra $ 1 to fried rice. The amount of rice she got was incredibly tiny given the amount of beef and broccoli they gave us. My sister in law’s orange chicken was ok, but nothing to brag about. We did get some crab puffs, and they were EXCELLENT. Overall I would say if you want good Chinese food in this area, go up the street to 888. It’s great!

As you enter the front door of this restaurant in 2011, the year could be 1982 except for the flat screen on the wall and the internet connected credit card machine. Other than that — this place qualifies for old school designation. I will skip the dish by dish breakdown and will tell you that I stop here frequently for take-out, and my discriminating family seems to love the food. I did not think the soups were perfect, but everything else is really good. My personal favorite is the Kung Po chicken. They do it very well, and the servings are large. Like most Chinese food, it is loaded with sodium — so I always request a low sodium version. The order taker always figures out what I am asking for and less than ten minutes later they deliver a perfect carton of a low sodium blend of chicken and vegetables in a perfect sauce. You read that correctly — less than ten minutes. I am afraid to call ahead because my order would be ready too soon, I would rather carry it out as fresh as possible. The ten minute window makes it the perfect place to stop on my way home from Houston. Dickinson is just outside the madness of 646 and 518, so its a low traffic option for great food that is faster than fast food and whole lot healthier. So if you want to eat healthy, give my low sodium Kung Po a try here!
