I am not sure how this place got 4 stars… My husband and I were craving authentic carve asada tacos so of course I checked Unilocal! When we arrived the store/restaurant was empty besides the 2 workers, who I assume to be husband and wife, and their 2 young children. We ordered tacos and a side of rice. They didn’t have any beans without pork or guacomole. The tacos arrived and looked ok, not exactly what I’m used to– I used to live in LA so my standards are pretty high. They only had one type of salsa which was ok. They didn’t serve the tacos with slices of lime. The carne asada tasted like it might have been old, as well as the rice we ordered for my daughter. I asked for a to-go container but after tasting the rice I left it on the table. Overall I wouldn’t go back to the restaurant.

Ok so on my quest for great street type tacos I have discovered the goldmine that is Dickinson. This city is full of taco trucks and Taquerias. La Tulteca is more of a traditional Taqueria. They have plenty of room inside with tables. It is a bit rustic but clean and well lit. They have coolers full of all kinds of Mexican sodas and drinks as well as a large selection of chips and snacks. I ordered at the counter and went with the classic fajita taco along with an Al pastor. At the last moment I went for a Pupusa since I realized this was a Mexican/Salvadoran Taqueria. Of course I grabbed a bottle of Topo Chico to go with it. They made my order to go but I am not sure why since I would have rather stayed. So The Fajita meat was tender and juicy and the lettuce and tomato were crisp and fresh. A bit bland and the salsa provided was a bit weak. The Al Pastor was much better with a lot of grilled onion. ThisAl Pastor had a slightly sweet flavor and the salsa worked well on these. The Pupusa was done right and served with Curtido which is a lightly fermented cabbage relish. The Pupusa itself is not one of my favorite dishes but the Curtido served with this one really turned me into a fan. It was tart and crunchy and went well with the earthy pupusa. Overall I plan on going back for breakfast or one of their other items like burritos, gorditas, or their Tulteca plate(Pork chop, salsa, rice and beans). They also offer home made baked goods and fresh tortillas to go.

Great little mexican joint with homemade tortillas. Looks like it’s family owned and the people are real nice. Good for a quick breakfast at a reasonable price.
