I can’t say enough about how wonderful every single person within this organization was, and how helpful, supportive and attentive they were. After one nightmarish week with Vitas, another hospice provider, we knew we had to do something. I called Snowline, and the lady I spoke to was so reassuring, and patiently walked me through the steps of changing providers(you *cannot* cancel hospice service, or you lose the Medicare benefit — I didn’t know this — but you can transfer service to a new provider). She told me exactly what to say and do, and even stayed late while faxes went back and forth, to be sure that my loved one was taken care of that very day. And this was before anything was signed, and before anyone met us — she just wanted to help me, and make sure we were getting the help and care we needed. By the next morning we were set up with all the equipment, medications and supplies we needed, and with an incredible care team. Most of all, we were given loving support, a nurse who made us so comfortable it was as though she was another family member, a brilliant doctor with wonderful bedside manner and a desire to be sure that we and the patient understood all our options and took the best courses of action, and a support team made up of person after kind, helpful, knowledgeable person, every one of them patient, happy to answer questions, helping us determine exactly what we needed, how to make our loved one comfortable, what medication options we had, and so forth. They didn’t TELL us what to do, but they partnered with us so that we felt like we could all make the best decisions for every change of health and circumstances as our loved one’s cancer progressed. She was treated with dignity, respect and kindness always, and we were treated with compassion and understanding. The staff was so loving, and it was apparent that each person wanted to be there, wanted to help, and genuinely cared. They are a non-profit, in contrast to the for-profit hospice we started with, and after seeing both types, it’s clear how important«non-profit» is. Snowline isn’t in business to make money; every person we met wanted to help and make a difference… and that’s what you want during the incredibly difficult process of helping a loved one reach the end of their life in the best way possible. If you are within their service area(more or less from Folsom east), you owe it to yourself and your loved one to call — you will be so grateful that you did.
