East of Maui Surf Shop

It’s a small little surf shack in Dewey Beach. It has a decent, but not extensive, selection of surf and beach goods. The parking lot is a pain. And the staff is helpful.

Fallen from grace. This place used to be the «go to» for windsurf, kiteboarding, etc. now, the place is disorganized and forget about scheduling anything. Needs better management.

Awesome surf place with a great selection of gear. Everything from top kitesurfing gear to used boards right in one well organized and cool shop. I went to the Lewes location which was mainly run by high school and college students who were very friendly and informative. The young, long blonde haired teenager really knew his stuff and helped me out with any questions and locations about skim boarding. My first renting experience from the shop was smooth and the gear was great for such a reasonable rental price.
The only reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is from my second visit. I returned to rent paddleboards just for 2 hours so me and my girlfriend could learn how to paddleboard in the bay. I asked about the conditions and they said it was fine, so my girlfriend, who has never paddleboarded before, and I, who has paddleboarded maybe 10 times before were surprised to find some pretty serious side shore winds. The service of delivering the paddleboards across the road to the beach was nice, but it would’ve been excellent service if they could’ve just drove the extra 50 yards down to the water so we didn’t have to haul these heavy boards getting tossed around by the wind. Anyway, he paid $ 80 for a 2 hour rental for 2 boards which was reasonable for the quality of the boards so we decided to make the most of it and get paddling. However, it was simply too difficult with the wind. We were getting pushed down wind wayy faster than we could possibly paddle and gave up after about 45 minutes.
I realize I should’ve checked the conditions myself before renting and I probably should have said something as soon as I realized that the wind way too much to paddle in. I did not complain to the store or ask for any type of refund just because the staff was very friendly and it’s not their job to evaluate conditions for a couple of amateur paddlers. We just took the boards back after an hour and went back to playing in the water. Overall, will be returning to this store for any surf or beach rentals and would recommend it to anyone else as well. I would just advise anyone to make sure conditions are right.

Liam was excellent to work with! I’ve been to a lot of skate shops where the staff are more interested in themselves than they are in helping a customer. Liam greeted me warmly when I entered and patiently answered all of my questions about longboards. When I picked the board that was right for me, he even swapped the wheels so that I had the color I wanted. This is why I shop local. Thank you East of Maui. I highly recommend this place.

This is the surf shop to come to if you’re in the Rehoboth Beach area, and the surf shop to make a day trip to if you’re not. You’ll find a decent selection of surf and paddle boards and all of the accessories to go along with. The shop also boasts a great selection of wetsuits/​shorties, footwear and street wear for men, women and kids. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This is my one stop shop for all my paddle surfing needs. If I have trouble finding something at the surf shops in OC I can usually find it here.
