I went to Urban Bean on the recommendation of a frequent visitor. The staff wasn’t super friendly. I felt like an inconvenience. It’s not a place I would visit again.

Best coffee in Detroit, breakfast burritos are amazing. Josh is an awesome owner, Great Way to start any morning is at Urban Bean.

This is our go-to place for a coffee break at work. Coffee is always great. If you’re lucky there are still some Dutch Girl donuts there from the morning. Also there are these breakfast burritos that are great if you need something quick to eat.

When you need coffee, you need coffee. Not at 9ish. If the sign says opens at 9, that’s when I’m there. Unfortunately, they’re not. So, I’m forced to go elsewhere. No stars for you!

This Pure Evil Latte may be the best latte I’ve ever had. Coming from Chicago, I made a good effort to try as many specialty lattes as I could and didn’t think I could find anything like this in Detroit. I’ve found a new favorite and I’m so pleased

Really cool place! We came for breakfast food and they didn’t have many options. Their croissants were pretty decent, not very fresh though. They were out of bagels, along with most things but had veggie burritos as an alternative. The upstairs was so neat but also very crowded.

First morning in detroit… none of the coffe places on the Unilocal list impressed me but gave this a try. This shop is in an Open windowed corner lot that I bet is cold when the winter hits… cheap 80’s style furniture. Trying for a retro feel but misses the mark… My latte was watery tasting and the chocolates croissant I had was average. Wouldn’t come back unless I was in a real pinch.

What an interesting building! The owner is just as bizarre but with an authenticity I can appreciate. The coffee has been good, the treats can hit or miss. Some people like the breakfast burritos(or tacos?) but I’ve never tried them. Urban Bean co. gives Detroit unique charm. Glad to see it open after some years locked up in waiting.

I was in the area and thus was the closest place and from reviews seemed like a cool place. The place is cool, like time warp from the 70s. I ordered a small w mocha and supposed to be $ 4 he charged me $ 5 because I was drinking it for here, whatever. The only bad thing about this pkace, the owner isn’t friendly.

I like this place. I like that it’s sometimes open later. I like the location. And, although there’s not exactly a clear aesthetic, I like the retro vibe of it. It’s a bit cliquey — the guy whom I presume is the owner is clearly a Detroit insider of some duration, and so new or occasional customers may find themselves ignored a bit, especially in comparison to the extensive conversations he’s having with the posse. I’ve waited more than once for him to finish a paragraph. Thing is, yes, they’ve been coming longer to become part of the posse, but leaving people to feel on the outside is likely to not *expand* the posse. Just saying. They have peanut butter cookies, which is all that really matters.

If you want to feel like you just stepped in to the 1970’s and have a great cup of coffee, Urban Bean Co is definitely the place to come. I love that this place isn’t made to look LIKE a retro coffee shop, it IS a retro coffee shop. You can tell that the carpet has been there for decades, the tables and chairs are authentic, and there’s wood panelling upstairs. While this vibe is great, it also seems a bit cluttered. They serve Great Lakes Roasting Co coffee, which I really enjoy. I’ve had an iced coffee here, which was very smooth and drinkable, even without milk(which I usually use). The green fairie latte was also great but a tad too sweet for me(white chocolate + pistachio latte). Overall, I’m a big fan.

Love this place! Stopped in randomly one day and now I frequently go there for my morning coffee. The staff is extremely nice and the overall atmosphere is charming. Their specialty drinks are really good.

Been coming here every morning for last 3 years for my morning fix, the best coffee in town to start your day… The concept of the place is very cool, enough space for quite meetings upstairs while looking outside from the massive windows. Parking is very convenient since its attached to a parking garage n the parking guys are awesome!!! Highly recommend this place

Owner is a dick and will always charge you a little more than any other worker will. Coffee is good but overpriced. I don’t see this place lasting much longer once some competition arrives. I’ve been here many times but have chosen to opt for other locations.

I think most of the rave reviews on here are from people who are just visiting Detroit and are charmed by the exterior cuteness. I went for the first time today and the guy who took my order was not nice and quite demonstrably not into being there(another employee who walked in a couple minutes after was very nice tho). I got a soy cappuccino and it was good but not warm. I got my boyfriend a double cappuccino, easy on the milk and foam, and it came out with a lot of milk. I’ll take the blame on that one as I should have just said ‘dry’ but my bf has had two previous bad experiences there so now he’s 0 for 3. Disappointing as he lives a block away. We will just go the extra couple blocks to the roasting plant from now on. Tl;dr cute if you’re stopping through town, not good for regular visits.

Came all the way from Los Angeles and was blown away when seeing Claude VonStroke hanging out in the coffee shop. Great vibes and music. Wish LA had a spot like this.

Funky little shop in downtown Detroit built into the side of – what else, a parking garage! Nice selection of coffee and tea drinks. Quiet lounge with tables upstairs, 70’s urban rebel vibe. Mellow place to hang out after work.

So… I’ll start by saying the guy who made my coffee(who I think owns the place) wasn’t the nicest person I’ve ever met. Ok, that’s literally the only unpleasant thing about this place. I had the Pure Evil Latte(made with cherry) and it’s probably the best latte I’ve ever had! Smooth, tasty, literally perfect. I travel a lot for work and always try the local coffee. This is one of the best! Also had a pretty mean breakfast Barrito and light snacks like muffins, brownies, and fruits! Worth checking out, for sure!

Totally love the building’s architecture. Capital Park is also quite simply one of the best hidden nooks downtown. But… the coffee is self-serve, gas station style and not the best quality. Also, I cannot figure out their hours. They’ve been closed more often than not when I have tried to get a coffee during the daytime.
