Solid divey sports bar. Nice vibe with true local sports fans and really great burgers. Decent beer selection and nice staff. Even a Chicago sports fan can feel good in here(as long as Chicago isn’t in town playing ;)

Waiting for my passport pickup in Detroit so I decide to check out a local place for lunch. Decided on Tommy’s downtown. Service was friendly but slow, no utensils brought until asked for. I ordered the whisky burger since they touted it as their best item, made fresh, etc. It looked nice, but tasted like old meatloaf. Wouldn’t recommend any burger here.

I’ve been to Tommy’s a dozen times and it’s a cool place to GO to but after tonight, I will never go back. Their on site service is ok but the service when you call or try and place a carry out order is ABSOLUTELYAWFUL. I called, placed my order, and was asked for my credit card information? I thought that was bizarre for an order that couldn’t have cost more than $ 20-$ 30 but I was starving and went with the flow. As I was digging out the credit card that I didn’t expect to have ready, the call got disconnected. I called back and got a busy signal four times within a 6 – 7 minute window. About ten minutes later, I gave it one last shot and someone answered but decided that it would best for him/her to set the phone down. A couple minutes later, I hung up and decided I will never spend my money there again. Customer service is the most important thing to me and when a place starts acting like they’re doing you a favor by doing their job, I just go elsewhere. There are dozens of downtown spots(new and old) that still know they’re nothing without the customers!

Absolute best place to watch a game or after a wings game. Food is outstanding. Corned beef one of the best in the city. Tommy is the most gracious owner you will ever see. You’re in for an A+ experience. Go Wings!

The reason this place is even getting 2 stars is because the food isn’t deplorable. The service is the absolute worst and they have horrible business practices. I had ordered food ahead of time to prevent getting caught up in the lunch rush, but no worries because there isn’t a lunch rush to get caught up in. There was no one inside and food still took an hour. A couple of people left without food all together because food wasn’t even on the grill and they had to get back to work. My food was also forgotten and brought out to me cold and I had to get up and ask for my own water. On top of everything they refused to split our bill and said it was company policy. Will not be returning

One of my favorite local spots in Detroit! They have the best burgers in town! The pool table kinda sticks, and the dart board has been on the fritz twice but you just can’t beat the service! The games are in their own room in the back so you have privacy playing. Plus they have great specials!

Fun place before the wings, unfortunately not good at splitting tabs and the minis beers are overpriced. I hope they change that because it is a cool place to pregame.

Hidden Gem After finishing my work day at 11pm. I was looking for a cold beer. I usually prefer a local bar but was disappointed with the depressing atmosphere at Anchor Bar. I noticed on Unilocal that Tommy’s was nearby and decided to give it a try. When I walked in at midnight, I was the only customer. My first time here and I felt like a regular. After my chili, which was excellent, I got my history lesson on how the building was used during prohibition and how its basement served as part of the underground railroad. I can’t wait to come back.

First stop in Detroit, found this on Unilocal. The wings were indeed solid although they are prepared with old bay and they don’t come with blue cheese although it is available upon request. The beers were delicious and cheap. Lastly the highlight was the bar tender and the incredible waffle fries.

Easily my favorite bar while in Detroit. Tommy’s offers so much, you don’t even know they offer it. Had I known they offer shuttles over to Comerica, I would have come here before the game. Tommy’s was my last stop on my trip to Detroit, a good looking bar with some great service. We arrived late on Friday night and started ordering away. Well priced brews and shots will always leave me content. The menu was large, and the items looked really good. After eating some disappointing food at the Tigers game, I wish I had eaten here instead, but was a bit too full. I didn’t turn down some free popcorn though, that would be blasphemy. Tommy’s has the feel of a genuine bar, with a genuine staff, and should be one of your stops when hitting up Detroit.

Un buen bar para pasar el rato. Una atención muy personal y un ambiente de bar de deportes . Mucha cerveza y algunos buenos platos con hamburguesas y papas . Es solo para pasar el rato, bastante ruidoso pero bueno para compartir un partido.

I can’t give it a straight-up review because we didn’t eat, and we only had a few average drinks. But what is awesome about this place is Tommy & the tour of the basement. Ask him about it!

Bar food was great! A better selection of food than most places. Staff was SUPER friendly! Lara and people in the kitchen were awesome. Lara introduced us to all the patrons who all came over to visit us out of towners. Prices were more than reasonable on both food and drink and free shuttles to the games!!! Sanchez is hilarious.

Randomly found Tommy’s on Unilocal, was looking for a late night food option within walking distance of COBO center. Prices weren’t too bad, about $ 9 for each meal we ordered on average. It is a small place, and was fairly busy so we had to wait in the crowded bar area for about 15 minutes, but Tommy promised our group we could get a table soon, so we ordered a couple rounds of beers in the meantime. Everyone was happy with the food, good burgers, good waffle fries, good tots, etc. A step above regular bar food. Service was good as well — only thing that may make some hesitate is they won’t split checks for large groups, but that was no problem for us. Tommy was a super nice guy, you could tell he was passionate. Overall we all said we’d go back if we were back in Detroit.

This place was ok. I had a burger and my friend had the chili dogs. They were kind of stingy with the chili. Staff was friendly but the few times I’ve been here it has not been busy. All in all it’s an ok place to grab a beer. Nothing stood out for me

I love this place. I cannot even think about attending a Red Wings game without scheduling extra time to grab a pitcher, a tasty burger and the free shuttle to and from the game. One of my all-time favorite bars in Detroit and make sure you ask for the speakeasy tour too, Tommy is very knowledgeable and passionate about the history. Plus Tommy introduced us to our realtor who found our house for us.

I’ve been to Tommy’s a couple times over the years. It’s a divey sort of sports bar… small, close to Joe Louis. Nothing fancy to be had here, and you’ll find it full of Red Wings fans and a few old man regulars. I haven’t tried the food here, but I’ve seen some interesting looking things(in a good way) coming out of the kitchen. What kind of soured me was a few weekends ago I was bar crawling with a group of friends. 7 of us came into Tommy’s, settled into the back room by the pool table so we could be loud and rowdy and not bother anyone. The bartender came back to greet us and we immediately ordered a round of shots. He returned with the bottle in hand and a stack of 7 small plastic cups, poured them up, said, «That’ll be $ 35 whenever you’re ready» and left to return right back behind the bar, never to check on us again. Huh? There were only 3 other dudes in the whole place. Not exactly a packed night. And you have a group ordering shots and don’t feel the need to sell us anything else? We all wanted to get some beers after our shots, and probably would have ordered food at that point as well, but none of these things were offered to us. Being that most of us in the group were Unilocal snobs anyway(ha) we decided there wasn’t anything so special about the place to make us stay there and go out of OUR way to try and give them any more of our money when they didn’t seem like they were really trying to take it. We ended up leaving and heading to another establishment that was more than happy to to empty our wallets out from under us with offers of food, beers, and more shots. Tommy’s…that could have been you. But you blew it.

Great hometown bar! My buddy and I just stopped in as we drove by and man am I glad we did. The service was awesome and the food was even better. Doug can whip up some mouthwatering wings and a burger that is just as authentic and savory as the bar itself! Highly recommend it to anyone, local or just visiting!

Great Burger! The burger was cooked perfect and the toppings are amazing. It comes with Frys a lot of them for only 8.95. The drinks are strong and they have any kind you could want. The service is great too very friendly. The only downside is parking if there is a game going on other than that the place is a great bar for fun times to be had.

Stopped in here last week on a Saturday after a late afternoon Tigers game. There were maybe 15 other folks in there, and we snagged the last 2 seats at the bar. It definitely has a dive ambiance to it, but I like that about a bar. Ordered a few drinks and then decided we were hungry and asked for a menu. They have homemade soup and chili simmering just behind the bar. I couldn’t make up my mind so the bartender gave me a sample of pea soup & their turkey soup. Anyways, I ordered a grilled cheese & pea soup which was delicious, and my boyfriend got the chili and some fries, which was also very good. The cook came out and chatted with us for a while and the bartender was also attentive and friendly. Prices were reasonable for the food & drinks. The bar is very old which just adds to its overall character, I’ll be back if I’m down that way.
