Best place to see a show if you are looking for an indoor venue. I saw Blue October there yesterday. Wonderful performance and the Fillmore was spectacular! I would love to go back again!

This was my first time seeing a show at the Fillmore. My friend and I had a great time seeing Babymetal here. The inside of the venue is beautiful and the acoustics were much better than I expected. We were initially put off by the seemingly questionable parking situation. The venue is surrounded by gravel parking lots where you can haggle with attendants for prices between $ 10-$ 15(cash only). I was worried my car wouldn’t be there when I got back, but *spoiler alert* it thankfully was. Regardless, I was uneasy in the back of my mind throughout the show. The doors were to open at 7pm and we got in the line at 6:30pm that was at that time extending to 6 blocks away, wrapping around some of the aforementioned parking lots. We got in and settled into our spot to watch the show by around 7:20ish. That was after we got thoroughly patted down. I have been to a lot of concerts and venues and I can only recall being patted down that thoroughly on a couple other occasions. The concert did not start until 8:30pm, which was very surprising. Typically, I would expect that the door to start duration be only an hour. This does it for the negative though. After settling into our spot, we had the opportunity to marvel it the beautiful venue. The setup is pretty genius. There are tiers for those sitting, but also for general admission. The floor in front of the stage is a reasonable size. The next tier up is almost level with the stage and gives an excellent view. There are also 2 tiers ascending beyond that, which lead to the bar. The stage is flanked with sculptures of suits of armor and the vaulted ceiling is beautiful. As I mentioned before, the acoustics were solid. I have been to similar venues where the sound has not been anywhere near as good. The staff was generally very nice, even with the mob of peculiarly dressed concert goers. I will be coming back to this location as soon as I find another band I like on the schedule.

When it opened in 1925, the Fillmore was named the State Theatre. Along the way, it was also named the Palm-State Theatre, and the Palm Theatre. Then, in 2007, it was renamed the Fillmore. The building’s architect was C. Howard Crane, a prominent Detroit-area architect. The style is Renaissance Revival, and it is beautiful. The ornate decorative elements give the space a luxurious, posh ambiance. The space is multifunctional and is especially well suited to concerts. When you pay for a ticket to see an act at the Fillmore, you get part of your money’s worth simply from the beauty of the space.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever been to the Fillmore before… at least not as long as it’s been called the Fillmore. It’s still The State to me. I came for the Kevin Smith Podcast and laughed my ass off! The venue is a little beat up but beautifully so! It’s got patina and flavor and plenty of Detroit character! We had mezzanine seats which were fantastic! There’s a private bar on the mezz and the view left nothing to be desired. The seats were comfortable and we had a little table for drinks between our seats. Acoustics were solid and the venue is just a chill place with a great vibe. It’s definitely worth seeing a show here.

The venue itself is very nice. The staff is a bit on the disorganized side when entering. It is well worth it to get a box seat. There were 4 chairs in front and a couch behind us for 4 more people. Great views and it actually comes with a server. Was just there this last weekend for the Liz Phair/Smashing Pumpkins concert. Probably about the 8th time there. Had a great night except for the two ahole dudes in the next box over who talked as loud as they could over the opening act like two little bitches.

I’ve been here a few times for the Cupid’s Undie Run and a few different concerts. I love the space, it’s beautiful. Usually the place is set up well and the mezzanine is always a nice place to be for seats. Last time we were there for the Undie Run, the bartender who helped us was a real asshole. But, he was five minutes of several hours of time I’ve spent there. For the ladies– the bathrooms are downstairs and the wait can be long, so don’t wait to long to visit.

The Filmore is a gorgeous venue. The staff on the other hand is a group of idiots. The security outside is a bunch of wanna be mall cops. They have a staff member«assessing» people walking by on the corner prior to entering the venue. Don’t have your arm around your girlfriend as you approach the venue or else they will assess you as not needing a drink wristband. The security guy will then recite the sobriety questions he heard while watching«Cops» alone on his couch. If you are wrongly assessed by the wanna be mall cop just proceed to talk to the Detroit Police officer standing by the door. He/she will uphold the integrity of the law and quickly overturn the assessment made by a guy who failed every test in his life which led him to become a security guard at the Filmore. Getting a wristband isn’t that great anyways. It’s just gives you the elite privilege to buy one of their overpriced«premium» cocktail which taste not so premium. Nevertheless, the interior of venue is wonderful.

This used to be one of my favorite venues back in the day when it was the State Theater. We always knew we could get there a little early, grab a spot behind one of the railings, and be able to see the show without being trampled or have a blocked view from a tall guy who would inevitably stand directly in front of me on the main floor. For some unknown reason, they had reserved tables set up where we usually stand, so all of the railings were off limits. To make it worse, they wouldn’t let anyone stand on the stairs, so I could not see anything. I complained to the manager, and she agreed that it wasn’t a good way to set up for a concert, but supposedly the band requested it that way. She gave me two free drink tickets, which did nothing in the way of helping me enjoy the concert or make up for the loss of the ticket price because I couldn’t see any of the show. Too bad I wasn’t there just to listen. The band sounded great. For all I know, they could have been lip syncing, because I couldn’t see them. Exceedingly disappointed with the concert set up at this venue.

I been here a few times already to watch concerts and such. It’s one of them great theatres in the Immediate downtown area. The architecture is still stunning as far as I’m concerned. It’s theatre seating so, there’s basically not a bad seat in the house specially when you’re watching a concert. It’s definitely not stadium seating, so the nosebleed seats are even pretty good seats. You could at least see their faces, not just a tiny spec in the distance. The acoustics are hecka awesome here. Sound travels exceptionally well through out the theatre. There’s convenient rest rooms that are at striking distance from the seats. Concession stands close by as well, and I don’t really mind the price for drinks and snacks. If you didn’t know to pre drink before coming to the show, then you’re a little behind. Plus, we came to see a show, not to wine and dine. Anyways, I like coming to watch concerts here. Never have I had a bad experience. Thank you Fillmore! I’ll see you again next time. («,)

Safety of their concert goers seems to be low on their list of concerns. Security was letting people be slammed into the barricades and I saw a few people leave with injuries. I was in line for hours but security allowed people try to fight their way up to the front and hurt others in the process. We had to move away from the front of the stage so we didn’t get hurt more than the minor injuries we sustained. Security only cares about grabbing crowd surfers. Would not be my first choice in venue because of their lax crowd control.

The Fillmore is one of my favorite places to see a show. You cannot deny the sheer beauty of this historical building that was once the State Theater. I’ve been here about 5 times to see concerts now and I’m never disappointed. Our preference is the mezzanine level as it is intimate and you get a great view. You also have your own bar with short lines and if you get a table or a box you get your own server so you never have to leave your seats. Only downside is the bathrooms are up one level on the balcony and ladies only 3 stalls total! If your looking more to dance during the show and be near the stage then the main floor is best bet.

Old time theater, which is now used for trendy shows and acts. Really helped by its placement next to the Fox and the sports venues. Smaller than many places, which actually makes it better. They are taking care of and keeping up the old time marble and trim, which really makes this feel special. The access is slightly hampered because it was designed when people were smaller and handicapped people were ignored. The bathrooms really are not up to modern size and use requirements. A good bar can be reached through the lobby side door. I wish more places like this had been preserved

4 stars for location, value, artists, and friendly and efficient staff. I came here for an EDM show Above & Beyond in May and it was great! The acoustics and lighting was great, lots of room to move around, they also have a balcony and raised platforms. Pretty much everywhere you are on the floor will have a full view of the stage. This place is über old. The staff were friendly and professional and not too strict. Bathrooms— pretty clean for the volume of people it holds and it has an attendant! I love that… not that I ever need anything from them, I just love it when a bathroom is staffed. What I love the most is the artists that they pull so definitely watch out for their line up if and when you’re in Detroit.

Whenever you go to see a concert at the Fillmore theater, like any theater it’s a smaller space that has a good spot almost anywhere depending on your viewing pleasure. My husband and I ended up seeing Above and Beyond here the other night and what was great about it is that it is walking distance to other bars if you want to pregame or postgame. They had an adequate amount of bars which weren’t overcrowded and the ushers were very nice. The only thing is that the floors are so gross only after a few hours into the night, but that can be written off as really sloppy concert goers. It’s right on par with the Warfield in SF except they’ll make you a long island here. Plus 1 for the Fillmore.

As a woman who often attends concerts alone– I love the Fillmore. Most of the concerts I have attended over the years here have been heavy metal concerts. I’ve never had a disrespectful moment from any staff here and always feel very safe. The security is done very well and they keep everyone moving and everyone safe. The parking right across the street is anywhere from $ 10 – 15 depending on the lot, but it’s 100% worth it for a woman on her own to park there for ease of getting to and from the venue and for security. Artists really seem to love playing the Fillmore and the old-theatre atmosphere lends to the cool factor. The space reminds you a little bit of a similar place– Royal Oak Theatre, but I personally like The Fillmore better than ROT. You can’t go wrong with this venue. Love it.

I love it here. The building is beautiful! There is standing room by the stage and then further back on a raised platform which helps a lot with visibility. There are also some tables in general admission. I don’t know what it’s like in the balconies but they have two of them and somebody stood by the door with a sign that said you could upgrade to main floor if you wanted. I stood up front and the security guards were cool as hell. They looked out for us and kicked out any assholes that came up trying to take advantage of the place we were standing and in my opinion this was key to our good time. They also seemed to actually enjoy the show which I thought was neat because you can tell it’s not their type of music. The only reason they lost a star is because their staff outside were less desirable. The guys were snarky and sometimes kinda mean to the guests in line. I know its their job to maintain order but it was a little unnecessary.

Shot over from MA to catch the Mighty J. Geils Band here, it was definitely worth the trip! EXTREMELY fun venue! Be prepared to wait across the street for hours to get a good spot near the stage! They pack them tight here, making hard to dance to the show. But the band definitely fed off the energy and excitement of the crowd! Definitely would return to enjoy a show here!

I personally love the Fillmore, it is such a cool venue with a lot of personality. Last night my hubby and BF went to the Detroit Unilocal City event. It was a great lay out and you can tell that a lot of effort went into putting it together. We ate and drank… and got a lot of goodies. I havent seen a show there is a long time but if you have a chance you will not be disappointed!

The Fillmore is cool, reminds me of Old Detroit(and when it used to be called The State Theater). It’s a nice building with great aesthetics and is good for everything: concerts, events and parties. I did an Undie Run for the Children’s Tumor Foundation and it was a lot of fun, partying inside before and after the actual run. I saw The Used live there years ago, and I also saw the Michigan Beer Film there late last year. It’s fun and has this presence to it, like everything and everyone is smushed together but in a good way. The bar is HUGE and service is pretty stellar as well. If you haven’t been here, then go. If you haven’t ever been, what are you waiting for?

Unless you’re on the ground floor, the view isn’t that great. I’ve sat in the second floor and third floor balconies and they are too far back with a limited window on the second floor. At least the second floor has more comfy seats than the 3rd. Went to see Limp Bizkit last weekend and there was hardly any security on the 2nd floor and the bathrooms were shut down halfway through the show. They were also disgusting. This place needs a makeover.
