Mom is a huge William Shatner fan… Beam me up Scotty ! So a Sunday fun day surprise we took her to Motor City and Soundboard to see his stand up one man show. Quick review on Capt. Kirk… Pretty good show, better than I thought it would be., my rating 4 star, Mom’s 5 + stars But this review is about Soundboard. First off, I am not a big fan of the whole casino, hotel, parking layout. One big maze, lots of walking and all in narrow hallways with low ce ilings. The venue was well marked, easy security check thru the metal detectors, plenty of bars, one upstairs outside the venue doors and one inside to the left of the seating. One star The sound system, the stage projector and upper stage display screens all very good. One star. The seating… hell no, never again. We were in section 120, let’s call it the second level with the main floor being the first level. The chairs are your standard hotel banquet hall metal chairs with minimal padding, not intended for sitting on for a 2 hour show. That coupled with how close together they were. People, these are narrow chairs to begin with, then you hook them together so they are touching one after another. It made coach seating on a Spirit Airlines flight seem like a luxury. I am a petite size 2 and I barely fit, others who are not a size 2 got to know their neighbors up close and very personal before the show even started. Sight lines, we were in the second row, and because the seating is all flat, no incline, as soon as the row in front of me sat down, I was either bobing my head back and forth between them, or watching one of the big screens above the stage. Had to be even harder to see as you got farther back in our section. Zero stars I can’t see myself coming back here unless the performer is on my bucket list and there are no other options…

Never again. Tickets read obstructed view(from the upper level). When I read obstructed view I envision something like a post or column might be in the line of sight. This place is actually built with major portions of the upper level being able to see only ½ of the stage. Sitting to the right of center we could only see the left side of the stage and band. As an added bonus when the house lights were on my area of seats and both the row above and below me had a spot light shining in our eyes. A blazing light that whited out my vision for awhile. One of my friends complained and they did turn it off and then it came back on again. I spent a lot of time holding my ticket, which was printed on 8.5×11 paper, up in front of my face to avoid the glare. As an added bonus the people sitting next to us came in with a shopping bag full of take out food. Classy touch spending the first act looking at someone shoveling chow out of a big plastic salad container into their face which further obstructed our view. They do have the band on some big screens around the venue. Instead of having the screens overhead though I had to do a 90 degree head turn to the right to see the screen as I sure couldn’t see the whole band on stage. If you have any neck issues get ready to feel some pain.

Cool place to see a concert. There’s gambling and free parking, so it’s quite a step above most venues. Small and intimate with great sounding audio. I didn’t care for the makeshift sections 40 – 41 that were basically folding chairs in rows in an area behind the lighting guys and sound boards. Not to mention large structural posts that in certain seats I would imagine it is difficult to see around, especially if you’ve got some big hair in front of you. I saw an acoustic show there and was kind of thrown off by the sounds of credit card receipts being printed at the bar that could be heard well over the music. Insider tip: spring for the balcony seats! Way better vantage point and no noisy bar sounds.

It’s a great venue, but pricing is a little out of hand. I attended an event there tonight. The staff was amazingly attentive and the layout nice. Sound systems were good and seemed up to date. Three different acts with three different types of music played, plus a dj. All were heard well. Food was very good, in the buffet style setting it was set up as tonight. Surprised the hummus was even good, a rarity for buffet style places. Coffee was provided with the meal, but not water. Went to the bar to get a couple glasses of water, even expected to pay a bit. They were the small 11 oz. bottles and it cost $ 10 for two of them. That is the only reason this isn’t a five star review. $ 5 for water is ridiculous.

So glad I finally attended a show here, the line moved quickly into the venue and I walked right up to the bar and was served. Not sure what to say about all the naysayers, this place was amazing! Watched the show standing on the side and enjoyed. Cannot wait to go back.

The Bar service was horrible, and the temperature in the venue was unbearably HOT! Would not recommend a Mezzanine seat unless seated almost directly center. We were left of center(sec 203) and could not see left side of stage. Would definitely not book a seat on left or right side of Mezzanine.

Came here to see Sublime on Saturday. The show was great. I was a little disappointed in the execution by the staff. The doors got bumrushed at 8pm. There were lines of 25 – 30 people deep at the bars waiting for beer. The capacity is around 1500 I believe. They had 2 bars, with 2 bartenders each. The bartenders had no barbacks and they’re making mixed drinks as well as serving beers. They did the best they could with what they were dealt, but it seemed like somebody — anybody — could have jumped behind the bar and helped out. The wait seemed to subside a little after an hour or so. I want to go see another show here because I liked the venue, but I really hope they have it together with the service. Overall, everyone was friendly and the crowd was great, but c’mon — it’s a concert. It’s been scheduled. You know how many tickets were sold. It’s not like you own a restaurant and got slammed with a party of 100 on a Monday.
