Sacred Heart Church

We visited this church today and the parishioners were extremely rude, un kind and un welcoming as well as harassing to local traffic on public property. It was flower day today in Eastern Market, and there were church members standing out in the streets near the church and chasing and harassing people — yelling at them to not park there, telling them to go away. There were families who were trying to park in public parking on the streets near the church to go to market. Although Eastern Market was very crowded and families visiting Eastern market needed a place to park on public streets, the church members were telling people they could not part on public parking around the church — even though people had every right to park there since it was all public parking.
They even had no parking funeral signs in the middle of the streets. I asked one of the church members standing on the street if there was a funeral today and she sad no — they are just putting the signs in the street so no one except church members could park there.
Every time a church member pulled into a public spot however — they were not harassed by church members. I suggested to the «nice» church lady that this was untruthful and disrespectful using a funeral that was not happening as an excuse to be rude to people, and she rudely called me a liar.
The church building itself is beautiful and a historical landmark. Too bad so many rude people go there though. It is clear that this situation was very well organized by the church since there were so many church members engaged in this, and because of this, it is clear that church leadership was involved in this decision to harass people who wished to park near the church.

This church is magnificent! It’s located right near the Detroit Eastern Market. This is what I love most about the D… you will be driving through what appears to be a run down neighboorhood that has hit the rocks, then voila! an architectural treasure like Sacred Heart appears. This church is so grand, I would love to be married here one day (taking applications for Mr. Right). Detroit, you captivate me.

Unlike any other Catholic church you’ll ever visit! I promise you! I was born and raised as a part of this parish family. Every time I’m in Detroit, I try to attend at least one mass. Under the guidance of Father Norman P. Thomas, this parish and its’s people, helped shape my spiritual self.
