Ok, so I admit the initial attraction for me was the fact my initials are K & G, but man, am I ever glad I let that little fun-fact influence me through the doors, LoL. The sign on the building says, «K&G Deli», so IDK if there’s a ‘Mike’ anymore … doesn’t matter, it’s all good, :). This is what fast-food in America should be, IMO … down-home, comfort-food style cooking, not that processed crap you get at the drive-thru’s. The store also carries all your ‘party-store needs’ and features«you buy, we fry», but I didn’t take advantage of that … yet. So anyway, there were so many great selections, I had a hard time deciding and I appreciated the customer service from the guy & gal behind the counter. Got a couple corned beef sandwiches, some rib tips, bacon/cheddar mashed, and chicken strips(at the suggestion of the counter girl). Forgot to get a side of greens and a side of yams, but like I said, the selection was overwhelming & I was feeling like a kid-in-a-candy-shop, and I’ll be back anyway, ;). IDK what I liked better, it all really is that good, :). The chicken strips are lightly breaded, large and made from real chicken … not some processed, ground-up, cold-pressed scraps. The rib tips came in a nice, light, flavorful sauce that really let you taste the meat, yum! I love when they leave bits of potato skin in the mash, that’s where all your vitamins are at too, yo’. The corned beef sandwiches were a steal at 2/$ 6, on an excellent deli rye. There is a difference in corned beefs, and this was definitely of the tasty/sammichy variety, :). You gotta’ excuse the pictures, I did intend on taking more, but once I got started into my order, it was all over … you really don’t want to get between me & good food, just sayin’, ;). They were really only for personal reference anyway, so I could remember all the selections, ie catfish, pork chops, turkey/chicken necks(there’s tons of meat on those bad boys), the ribs, the collards, the yams, the mac & cheese, pizza, lasagna, mixed veggies, baked fish, shrimp, Italian subs, ham & cheese subs … it goes on and on, :). If I were a Jefferson North employee, this would be my place, just sayin’. I’m up & down Connor pretty regularly(mostly in the summer) and this will be a regular stop, :). Two thumbs up and a street cred multiplier of x2 for those of you keeping score at home(old Ernie Harwell reference for you old Detroiter types). Probably shoulda’ gave ‘em a five, it’s that good. :)

This place is a hidden oasis of grandmama’s homemade soul food cooking. I was overwhelmed with the mouth watering choices behind the glass. I ended up choosing the Mac N Cheese, Cheese Broc, and Chicken Drumlets. I chose the Mac N Cheese because I’m pretty picky with it… I know that sounds ass backwards but the slight chance I do find«the one» I always try the Mac N Cheese. This time, I’m sooooo glad I did. The text was perfect. Was creamy thick, but not too thick. It has a perfect crunch from being backed. The flavor was awesome. Definitely down south style prep. The chicken was. A great crisp cooked the perfect amount of time. I had a mix of spicy and regular. The spicy was great. I always say things can be a bit more spicy but this was a great medium for anyone to enjoy. The chicken tasted well prepared. Didn’t have a freezer taste. The cheese broc was mediocre. Could have been better but could have been worse. The broc could have been seasoned a bit better. All in all, this was a hole in the wall gold mind. It is actually in side of a liquor store, so let’s be honest lol. The perfect place to get a bottle and get dinner to go with it. Must try!!!

ps: a side note… please don’t go to K & G looking for healthy«soul» food. It does not exist. Thank You :)
