This place is not at all a real German restaurant and to even call it a restaurant is being generous What it really is… is a dive bar that was once a German restaurant I had sausage soup I will say it was tasty wouldn’t say the sausage was real German knock wurst etc had Rahm schnitzel again tasty however came out almost immediately which tells me it’s not cooked to order …Being old and a bar you can smell the acrid smell of years of beer Would not recommend at all Disappointing

Diners Club of Detroit had our December event here this past week. Patrons loved it and we had many requests for return visits. I’ll let other Unilocalers tell you what they thought.

The only reason they don’t give five stars is because of that weird smell by the bathrooms. If you sit at the table near the stairs, good luck, it wafts. Aside from that, Jacoby’s is one of the only bars in «Bricktown» that I don’t hate. Great beer selection, cool bartenders, and super dope French onion soup! I’ll often go here for a couple of beers by myself while I wait for my guy to get off of work and I never feel uncomfortable like I do in some other bars in the same area. One day I’ll eat more than soup, one day …

I’ve been here a couple times now and it’s just right! Great beer selection, probably the best downtown! Turns out the food is awesome too! I mean really awesome! I had the most tender schnitzel ever! The potato pancakes were awesome too!

I came here with two friends right before a Tigers game. The place was not crowded but it was still cozy thanks to the décor, and the staff who works here. One of my friends is VERY picky, and had no idea why I would pick Jacoby’s when there are plenty of NEW places to eat in Downtown Detroit. Well, I like older establishments and since I paid for the Tigers tickets, I got to choose. I was so happy when he said he LOVED his burger! Yay! The chef was a wonderful lady who really got it right! I ordered the salmon sandwich with fries, and I could not finish it all. I ate as much as I could without stuffing myself because it was delicious! I only ordered one beer, Koestritzer(my fave), even though I should have had a local brew, because we were heading to the game and I knew I would have a beer there(at the game I did drink local! ha ha). When I return to Detroit, I will definitely stop at Jacoby’s again. I can’t wait!

I go here every time I have an «unplanned meal» when I’m in the D. It’s a staple before hockey games. We snuck here over the summer before a wedding. The atmosphere is great. The food is delicious. The prices are reasonable. The beer is cold and their lines are clean. Convenient location, close to the people mover. I seriously love this place.

I was here last Tuesday before clowning around in Detroit before a Tigers game and I was extremely pleased. I was really craving a Rueben so that’s what I got. The corned beef was juicy and tender, just how I like it. Sometimes the meat at other places can be stringy and chewy, but that was not the case here, which is good. My sandwich had great flavor and you could taste corned beef, swiss, and saurkraut in each bite. I also had the potato pancakes, which was a tad greasy, but that’s okay because it was quite tasty and thick. Friend ordered the wings. They were plentiful and tasty. Service was good and the food came out quickly. Atmosphere was cool. I’ll be back to try some more food for sure!

I went to Jacoby’s about a month back, never had a chance to write a review. Although, I have been back twice more since so that should clue you into whether you should go or not. This place does not have outdoor seating, as a Biergarten might usually have. However, it does have a variety of German dishes that are cooked to near perfection. I got the sausage sandwich with weisswurst, came with sauerkraut and grilled onions and fries. If you’re one of those that always gets bratwurst, switch it up this time and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The dish itself was cooked well and the fries were, well fries. However, I came back to get the schnitzel and holy potato pancake. If you get the dish just for those alone, it would be worth it. You can also find a pretty wide selection of German beers along with some well known michigan favorites on draft(bells, founders, etc).

If you’re looking for picnic tables, outdoor drinking, and a menu exclusively German beers, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a solid hole-in-the-wall with some German food and beers and mostly good craft beer, this is your place. I was expecting the former and got the latter. After a few hours my group walked away happy.

I went to Jacoby’s a while back and didn’t have a chance to write a review. I went with my friend on a Saturday afternoon and we split a Jacoby’s Sausage & Cheese Platter that had a combination of german sausages, assorted cheeses and crackers. I had Potato Pancakes with onion and cream that came with a side of chunky apple sauce and sour cream. We also split a side of Warm German Potato Salate w/warm redskin potatoes and bacon in sweet vinegar sauce. Everything was really good. I’m not a huge beer drinker, but all of my friends love it for that. I’d be back and try more of the food :)
