Not the worst Detroit public school, but certainly not the best.
Heilman has a beautiful building. It’s large, clean, with lots of light and space.
Some of the teachers seem dedicated and excited about their jobs. They seem to have more resources than most schools and it helps to teach in such a well laid out and clean environment.
However, the office staff are less than helpful. They leave confidential student information out in plain view, lose important forms, disclose sensitive information to other parents/​students, and are often rude and mean to the students. I once witnessed a secretary yelling at a first grader and calling her a baby because she wet her pants. Puhleeze!
