I really love shopping at the Eastern Market Antiques, however on three different occasions I have attempted to go and it has been closed during posted hours. Be sure to call and confirm it will be open to shop.

This antique store continues to impress me every time I go there. I will go there when I am bored and spend hours walking around this spacious store. I have also gone there looking for specific things and have been pleased at how easy it is to find what I’m looking for. The prices are very reasonable and I love the wide variety of pieces available. This is by far one of my places to go in the city!

Anyone who has shopped in Detroit’s fanciful Eastern Market knows you basically let the crowds take you where you need to go and have fun looking around at all the marvelous CHEAP things(I’m in Toronto right now and I’m in desperate need of a proper farmer’s market, so if anyone sees this holla at a sister). Well this time the crowds took my husband and I to Eastern Market Antiques. It’s like walking through an ornate maize maze, yet instead of maize towering over your head, it’s antiques! This place is quite large, two stories, with about 5 – 6 rooms on each floor. Now, for about two months I had been nagging my husband about how badly I wanted a juicer. But come on, who wants to dish out $ 200 + for a juicer. Not this little woman. So while we were wanderlust-ing through the shop we reached our final room. The antiques parted like the Red Sea, the angels began to sing, and BEHOLD my $ 35 Sharper Image juicer was sitting there at the back of the room waiting for me to buy it. Freaking stoked! Anddd my husband bought tennis balls, randomly, for $ 5(we don’t play tennis). It’s a really awesome place. The vendors are super friendly. You could really spend all day there if it wasn’t for the scorching heat.

There’s something magical about antique stores. Especially when there are multiple vendors spread out in an old building with wooden stairs that creak, exposed bricks and high ceilings. Very industrial and really takes you back. There’s one room I enjoyed in particular. The«North Annex». Go upstairs, and follow the signs. I love the brightly-lit entrance with vanity lights all around. I was wooed in by the sounds of Marvin Gaye. Lots of records, and old toys, purses, clothes, shoes. Things were a little pricey for me and I wasn’t looking for anything in particular but it was a fun trip nonetheless and see myself returning.

Really a fun waste of time… great eye candy… not sure how reasonable the prices are or aren’t… but they’re mostly beyond my bounds of reason… still, i come in here periodically just to see what’s new, have fun with some old memorabilia, and to rummage around a lot of their more dark, cavernous and almost hidden back rooms where the strangest of the strange oddities reside… …my dare to you is to first find the giant tin box of antique perfumes, and then to give one a spritz and a whiff… 3:)

Can you say, «overpriced»? Holy moses! There’s a prominently displayed sign stating that ‘Any reasonable offer will be accepted’. I should hope so, but some of the prices are so out of whack I’m suspicious about what might be considered ‘reasonable’. Another minus — the whole place is a mess. It needs a good straightening, which makes it hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. On the plus side, there is a lot to choose from here, furniture from Victorian to mid-century modern, quite a bit of jewelry and tons of decorative pieces.

This is where I get my rummaging fix on. Each visit leaves me as relaxed and satisfied as a smoker after their first cigarette of the morning. Whenever we stop in, we are first greeted by the man or woman at the desk on the first level. On cue, Barb peels off to the baubles and trinkets area to the right and I head upstairs to my predestined location. Most people, upon reaching the second level, gravitate to the diverse, open and more organized section to the left. I, however, am initially attracted to the hardware/furniture section to the right. By the time I am done exploring the far reaches of these creaky-floored rooms that are kept at an antique-loving 58º F, I reunite with Barb in the other, more frequented, section. I almost always leave with something of personal or functional value. Something that didn’t cost more than expected and sometimes less. I am an incurable treasure seeker. I have a penchant for all things quirky, kitschy and old. EMA is my supplier of the stuff I need. It feels so good whenever I visit that I think it should be illegal.

I actually really enjoy this spot. I want to point out that they do not only sell antiques, but also vintage/retro items. Who knows, maybe what I consider retro is actually antique now. I love getting caught up and looking at all the items, they are in good condition and should definitely be on the list of someone who wishes to decorate all secondhand. I found really amazing yellow glass vases here for an outstanding price. I didn’t even have to negotiate that hard, the staff was so accomodating. That’s my kind of place!

My new favorite antique shop! Unlike a lot of antique shops, where they overwhelm you in a tiny room, this place is pretty spacy. I literally could have looked around this place for a couple hours. Prices are reasonable and they are willing to negotiate. This place has a lot of neat stuff!

You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Eastern Market Antiques is the epitome of this. This warehouse of antique furniture, old albums, vintage clothing, and knick knacks has a little something for everyone whether it be trash or treasure. This multi level storehouse is the perfect place to find that art deco armoire your bedroom has been lacking, that Roxy Music album your record collection has been desiring, or that quirky piece of jewelry your neck has been lacking. EMA is always getting new stock so stop in often. They offer reasonable prices on some of the most gorgeous furniture pieces I’ve ever seen. The furniture is always in great condition, minus a few nicks that can easily be fixed. So, if you’re looking for an outstanding stand out piece of furniture, or a gift for mom check out Detroit’s Eastern Market Antiques. I’m sure you’ll find a nostalgic and sentimental piece of perfect.
