Easily one of my favorite days of the year. The official confirmation that summer is around the corner and baseball is back for the season! There is so much pomp, circumstance and tradition that surrounds opening day(and by opening day, I’m clearly refering to the HOME opener). If you’ve never gone and are thinking about it — embrance every moment — and here are some tips: 1. dress for the weather BUT assume its gonna feel abt 20 degrees colder than the weather that is predicted. wear layers — mostly for warmth, but just incase it;s actually a nice day. dont be afraid to bring gloves(no, not the sports kind — glove gloves… and a hat). 2. get there early to park. there are a variety of lots around the stadium(plan on $ 20), or park off the immediate site and take the ppl mover over(cobo roof is a good option), or head to one of the dozen places that have shuttles. Nemo’s is a crowd favorite and has large tents set up and do the day up big. 3. get there early to tailgate or just check out all the stuff going on. There are bands playing in front of Comerica and in Grand Circus Park, the bars are packed, media is everywhere, and the overall atmosphere is festive. Don’t hesitate heading over to the cab company next to Harry’s to try a bit of fowling( ) before, during or after the game. 4. If you live in the Royal Oak or Ferndale area, do not hesitate to book a ride with THENIGHTMOVE, transportation to and from the ballpark. Be aware, it sells out early — so it’s def not something you can decide at the last minute. 5. before heading home, don’t be afraid to stay for dinner. There are TONS of great places to eat — try somewhere you’ve never been. Do yourself a favor and Unilocal a highly-rated restaurant that sounds like somewhere you might like. My guess is, it will become a new favorite. Enjoy the Tigers, enjoy the day and ENJOYDETROIT. Oh, and if youre looking for a good tour guide, I might be available if youve got an extra ticket for me :)
