A guest in Detroit for just a few days, I’m so happy I attended a class at Detroit Barre. Everyone from the instructor Sarah to the class regulars made me feel welcome. With a genuinely upbeat attitude and a great selection of music, Sarah made the class a whole bunch of fun, even though she worked us plenty hard. She was vigilant about correcting our form — so important in a class that puts you in some admittedly strange positions. I had a wonderful time and got a tough workout, and I’ll be back the next chance I get! All in all, it seems like Detroit Barre has a pretty special thing going. Independent barre studios are hard to come by, and if you’re considering barre as a workout(it’s been a fantastic complement to running, in my experience), Detroit Barre is the way to go.

Barre classes are a welcome change from my usual workout routine. I originally began going when I bought a Group On and have been to about ten or so classes. Laura is great and makes you feel welcomed and comfortable during the course. And, girl, this is a legit workout. Your muscles are gonna feel that good kind of sore the next day. I wish it were a little cheaper so I could justify attending more often, but I am a member of a gym that offers group exercises(but no barre!) as part of my monthly fee, so it’s difficult to justify spending money for both. But, some days you gotta treat yourself.

Detroit Barre is a much needed and welcomed addition to downtown Detroit. I’ve been taking classes since they opened. All the instructors are wonderful & the classes are challenging without being too complicated or strenuous. I am currently pregnant and Laura has gone out of her way to make me feel comfortable by providing me with modifications and adjustments to allow me to continue getting a good workout while accommodating my changing body and abilities. I would highly recommend.

This was my first experience with Barre aerobics and it was fantastic! The space is small and I’m sure when word really gets out they will have to relocate to a larger studio, but for now its perfect. Great workout, that packs a serious punch. I came after buying a Groupon but I’m already planning on adding more classes. The classes are an hour. They work individual muscle groups and then stretch and elongate. The instructors have great bodies and posture so that alone is a testimony.

I took my first barre class yesterday. I was intimidated to give it a try because I didn’t know what to expect. Well, I was warmly welcomed by the instructor Laura and made to feel so comfortable. I worked at my own pace as I am a beginner and that was ok! Today I am sore all over, I know I worked muscles that haven’t been worked in a while. I will definately return, the class was difficult but enjoyable at the same time. I highly recommend this class to anyone of any age or skill level. Thank you Barre Detroit!

I have been taking classes here for several weeks now and really enjoy the whole experience! The barre room is really cool and has a lot of character. It has wood floors, exposed brick walls, a cathedral ceiling and a couple windows. The cathedral ceiling and windows make the room feel very open. All of the instructors are very friendly, knowledgeable and upbeat. Classes are challenging(in a good way) and you will definitely feel sore the next day(or two). The instructor explains each exercise and then walks around the room correcting as necessary, which is nice if you are new to barre fitness.
