Stopped here yesterday and ordered the salmon croquettes, eggs, and grits. I love hole in the wall diner-type places and this location doesn’t disappoint. As others have said, the service is slightly lacking, however as a whole I had no issues. I was greeted immediately and given water and a menu. After ordering, it did seem to take a little long, but my patience was probably shortened by hunger. My eggs, ordered scrambled medium, were cooked perfectly. My grits were delicious and needed very little doctoring to meet my tastes. The salmon croquettes while flavorful, had more of a texture of breading with salmon, and not the other way around. Charge me $ 2 more bucks if needed and give me a more substantial croquette. Overall the food was great and I’ll definitely be back.

I had the Salmon croquettes, rice, and cheesy scrambled eggs. It was delicious. It did take a wait for our food, but the wait was worth it. I ate that meal for 2 days.

First time there heard so much about the salmon couldn’t wait to try them but they ended up being my least favorite! The grits tho omg were perfect and eggs and pancakes were good as well. I don’t like Kool-aid but I had a glass because I heard so much about and I was glad I did. Would I go again yes but I had better Salmon patties at The Clique. I wouldn’t call the service slow because my waitress greeted me fast and brought my drinks fast but getting the good took a while so it’s the cooks that’s slow

Had the salmon and really enjoyed it. The service isn’t great but it’s well worth it. I also recommend the Mac and cheese.

I usually Love the breakfast here, but this time I was mad that I had decided to waste my time here. The plates were extremely small the lady was rude and it took and hour and 30mins for us to receive our food. The lady didnt even bring our drinks after we ordered, we had to ask for them 30mins later since it seemed it was going to be a long while before we got our food and I had to ask for my silverware when I finally got my food. You know what else really made me mad was that people who came in after us received their food before us and my food was cold but my husbands was cold and he was doing the most complaining. I guess its time to take this place off my must visit when in town list.

Hole in the wall diner with generous portions and great grits! It can be hard to mass produce grits so I give them two thumbs up for this. My boyfriend ordered a mulitcolored koolaid which tasted like a Hawaiin Punch gone wrong so I’d stick with the coffee. We went on a weekday morning and the place was pretty packed so I can only imagine it on a weekend!

Food was pretty good. Service was UBER slowwwwwwwww… It kind of detracted from my experience… We were working in the area… and when we do these little offsite ventures, I’m always dragging my coworkers to these little hole in the walls, or hipster lunch spots… We walked in to the jukebox jammin… loud…I didn’t mind though… it gave this place some Umph! We ordered up… Coworkie got catfish and I got salmon patties… They were good… tasted just like my Mom’s. But again… the service was mega slow… and once we did get our food… our server never bothered to check if all was well. For as slow as it was… my fries were under done :( It seems to be a solid place. My coworker and I teetered on the thought of getting a breakfast… maybe we should have. In no way was I wowed by Connie and Barbara… I dunno… I’d go back though… if I’m ever in the area again… Chow Down!

The food here was pretty darn good! I ordered the cube steak. It was definitely like my momma would make. The service was decent, yet slow. And to my surprise, they had a multitude of kool-aid flavors, the grape was spot on. Next time I will try the salmon croquettes that everyone seems to rave about.

Ok, so I was super excited to try this place as everyone in the neighborhood was talking about it, but wow is the service slow. I have been here for over an hour now and I still haven’t gotten my food. Shoot, it took over 20 minutes just to get a kool aid. I almost reached over the counter to pour the drink myself. I Hope the food is good, because I can’t see anything being worth this wait. All that I ordered was rice, salmon croquettes, and eggs… Fry the patties, scramble some eggs, and throw some rice on a plate. When I finally did get my order, they gave me grits instead of rice. I guess that it took so long, they even forgot what I ordered. The food was good once I got it, but nothing will ever be worth an hour wait. My advice to anyone that wants to try this place… Call your order in ahead like the guy next to me did.

They’ve got the best Salmon Croquette hands down!!! It’s a little hole in the wall, but once your taste buds meets the food, it’s to die for!!! Oh, and if you like kool-aid, they’ve got the best in town!!!

The food is soooo good. I get the salmon croquettes with scrambled eggs and rice every time. It’s the best I’ve ever had. The place is dated but the food makes up for it.

Excellent breakfast-the scrambled eggs and grits were by far the best I’ve ever had, and the coffee was way above average. Service was fast and courteous. Prices are ridiculously cheap. Just one caveat: you might have to wait a bit for a seat. This place gets a LOT of customers.

I had this craving this morning for soul food so I counted on Unilocal to lead the way. what we found is a new place to hang out on weekends or hell, i might have to come back in the morning to check out the breakfast. There is a sign on the door, ‘remove hoodies before entering’ — now that’s classic politeness. You enter and it’s all local so we got the stare down for about a minute then decided that the Asians were not going to take over the restaurants.(me, wife, son, daughter) It smells really good! the place is very homey which means you can watch TV at the counter, hang out… everyone was a repeat customer. I had fried chicken wings(were not on the menu but people were ordering it), collard greens, mash potatoes. wife had eggs and bacon, corn bread. daughter and son had BLT. BLT’s disappeared in a flash so I could not try it. My wife said that her eggs were perfect, bacon crispy — again I was not allowed to try it. My wings reminded me of Bakers lounge so I was a happy camper. The service is 100%. It’s all good. the corn bread in my opinion was too dry but what do I know. Again, just an opinion. My soul food experience is from SF so it might be a tainted. this is on my list of places to return and patronize. Everyone was talking about the sausages so I’m going back to try em. Oh yeah, price is right on.

I have been eating at «The Spot» for many years. This was my late father’s(Jessie Kilgore, Sr) favorite spot along with his best buddy Frank. I love the hot beef sausage, the salmon, SAMs potatoes, cheese eggs, Kool-Aid, heck, the truth of the matter is I have not had a bad meal at C & B’s…ever!!! If you want to experience the best breakfast and best soul food in the City of Detroit… Connie’s and Barbara’s is the place for you !!! Give it a try… you will be glad you did !!!

This place has been around for years and that’s how much I’ve been going here. The breakfast is all I get because it’s out of this world, I’ve never been disappointed in the quality of service or the food. The thing about going here is that I get a big hug from the owner every time I come and that makes this place stands out in my opinion. Everything is cooked to perfection and reminds me of my mom’s cooking. Try it out..

Old school counter dining. A place where the kitchen staff wear shower caps and kool aid is on the menu. Don’t let the outside of the place fool ya. Breakfast foods all day long.

The salmon croquettes and pancakes were very good. Everyone that dined with me were Happy with their breakfast selections as well. My problem is that the place is sooooo run down. The owners need to at least purchase new tables and chairs. With all the money they make in this place, I was highly disappointed that no money is being spent on keeping the place looking nice.

This is one of the best breakfasts you will get in Detroit. My father, brother and I once got a ridiculous amount of food there for like $ 20 and that included the tip. The sand potatoes are really good, everything comes out quick, and the jukebox pumps the blues. I mean they sell kool-aid for goodness sakes!

I’m a deep eastsider, and we have been going to «The Spot,» which is what we affectionately call it for years. Before, they would have different flyers posted all over the wall that kept one abreast about the different events or parties going on and around the D, but they took that down about 4 years ago. The restaurant has a very«moms and pops» feel to it. THe front door is an old school metal screen one, the chairs don’t match, and it has old paneling up around the place. So if you are big on ambiance and not on food, do not visit. On the other hand, if your looking for a good bite to eat and good fellowship, this is the spot. There is a juke box in the corner that houses old school and mid 90’S rNb, which I LOVE. The cooks will prepare ANYTHING for you, as long as its in stock in the kitchen. You can always tell the 1st time visitors in the restaurant, because they ask for a menu. Lol… I highly recommend this place for breakfast on any day of the week.
