Excellent selections for meat lovers and vegetarians alike(though maybe a little tough for vegans). As others have said, try the twice cooked egg. I often get the Recovery Park vegetable platter and it is always beautifully plated. Their drinks are strongly made and in drinks that have a bitter edge, they keep it. Chartreuse the liqueur is more herbaceous than sweet, and that’s the philosophy in a lot of their cocktails. But if you want something sweet, don’t be afraid to ask. The bartenders here are obliging. Desserts are made in a similar spirit. They rotate frequently and some lean much more savory than sweet. I appreciate that, but, again, don’t be afraid to ask questions and let the waiters know your preferences. I love what they’re doing here. I only wish it were open Mondays too.

This place is on our list of «must try places» in Detroit. I was really pleased with our experience. When we got there, we did not have a reservation. Regardless, they sat us right away and were so welcoming and friendly. We were immediately approached by our waiter who explained everything on the menu. Everyone was so engaging and we conversed a bit with the friendly cooks. They voluntarily explained some of the plates. It was really nice. Both of us were very pleased with our food. It was exactly what we expected. Sometimes when restaurants have a limited menu, you can be surprised by ingredients that aren’t exactly listed on the menu. Not here. Everyone was so friendly, the food was really good, and the atmosphere is very unique and inviting. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Such a wonderful place to start a night in midtown! Greeted with a smile that was carried over with each person that we came into contact with. The menu is not overwhelming and filled with dishes that all sound delicious even though you just can’t imagine who would have thought to put these ingredients together. The portions were of a perfect size that left you satisfied, but with room for dessert. Trust me… You want dessert. The drink menu was also filled with something for everyone. This place is perfect for groups as well as a date before the DIA… Which what we did. Will be back for sure!

Overall, just a really ‘meh’ experience. The décor is lovely, but the service, food, and drinks were average. I suppose the biggest disappointment was the fact that I made reservations for my boyfriend’s birthday a week in advance(making note of the occasion when making the reservation), but he didn’t get one of the personalized birthday menus(or even the generic birthday menu) upon arrival. Sure, that’s a trivial complaint, but it would have been so nice to have a souvenir from the evening. We split four appetizers(the twice cooked egg, grilled octopus, steak poke, and poached pear salad). Our favorite was the twice cooked egg, but I didn’t feel it is worthy of a return. My boyfriend and I agreed that we could have done without the seasoning that was sprinkled on the chips that were served with the poke(it gave them a strong Bettermaid BBQ flavor). By beau stuck to beer, and I ordered the intensely flavored, highly potent ‘Last Word’. This is the third time I’ve sipped this libation, and I probably wouldn’t have ordered it again if it was my first time, as I found it overwhelming here.

Oh my what a place! The service! The ambience! The food! I highly recommend getting the twice cooked egg dish. It was our first course and I’m still thinking about it. The second course which I did not care much for was the duck confit. The duck had this over whelming reheated flavor and the barley and cherries were a bit on the bland side. It is possible it was a miss for duck confit that evening. Our third course which was a special of the the menu was a pasta pappardelle. The perfectly cooked al Dente pasta was paired with very tender and juicy shoulder. The flavors of this dish matched together very well. For the 4th course we had the spare ribs they were pretty tasty, there was this radish like salad underneath it which was so amazing! I could have ate that all by itself. The final of the night was the chocolate ganache dessert which was a perfect ending to and incredible experience. I can’t wait to go back.

After reading the reviews we chose this place to purchase gift card from for our giveaway. Let me tell you how sad I was to not stay and have a drink or food. Hostess was super friendly, and walked us to the bar so we could get our gift cards. Bartender offered us water or a drink while she ran our card and filled things out, it KILLEDME to say no thank you. We shall meet again very soon!

We ordered a lot of the dishes because the portions are small. The food was overall good and the veggies are locally grown from a little garden down the street. The succulent wall is my favorite part of the whole restaurant! So pretty! Also I am a huge fan of Chartreuse(the liquor) so the drinks were really good

Love, love, love the living walls and locally sourced food! The bartender(with the coolest leather apron) told us Chartruese has no freezer, meaning food has to be super fresh! One of my friends suggested Chartreuse for my birthday. I called for a reservation at the last minute, and they not only worked out a table for us, they personalized menus that said«Happy Birthday, Kristine». Once I arrived, the hostess wished me a happy birthday! Even though we had a table, we ended up sitting in the lounge area because I liked the seating. We ordered a variety of items and shared. The pork belly was a stand out — melt in your mouth, succulent and flavorful. Desserts were a lovely treat — delivered to our table with a chartreuse pairing which complemented the flavors nicely. Drinks were well crafted and the aforementioned bartender came up with creative off menu concoctions for us! Highly recommend! Great for girls night, birthdays, and good food! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Chartreuse is next door to the DIA — so do a day at the art museum and then have a drink and/or a meal here after! Will definitely stop in again next time I’m home in the D!

An overall enjoyable experience with good food. 3 of us dined here on a Saturday night, so it was busy, but we had reservations and were seated promptly. We shared 2 plates and then each got one item as our main course. We shared the octopus which was perfectly cooked and delicious and the Autumn Vegetables, which we also enjoyed. It was an interesting selection and again, cooked very well. For my main I had the Duck Confit over barley risotto. I thought it was pretty good but some of the duck was overcooked — at least it seemed that way to me — unless they had intended it to be crispy. The pieces that weren’t crispy were chewy and delicious, the barley was good and rich. The other 2 dishes were rabbit loin which got a thumbs up and a seafood curry which the other person said was very good. I had the Rogue Valley red wine and my friends had house made ginger beer & root beer. We all enjoyed our drinks. I had the ‘yellow’ chartreuse as an after dinner drink, they split a vanilla pudding which made for a yummy finish. The décor was nice, the flowers everywhere are a nice touch and the bar looked enjoyable and we enjoyed the ambiance. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. One picky note — I found my chair really uncomfortable and couldn’t find a way to sit that wasn’t cutting into my legs. The chair is wooden and has a round rim around the seat that sits slightly above the seat itself. I’m thin — so maybe that was the problem — but I finally took my scarf folded it over several times and placed it under my legs at the point where it hit the chair to cushion it. I hate sitting in an uncomfortable chair at a restaurant when paying big $‘s for a meal. I don’t understand why they overlook those kinds of things. But — I liked it enough to come back.

Very good food at this place, lil unexpected! You know there are those places that try so hard to do something different that they forget about the most important thing, it should taste good ! This place had no problems with rich bold favors! Very delicious. The atmosphere in the place was a tad bit quirky though. They need to do something about the lighting. I mean part of the experience is the presentation, and it loses it self in the poorly positioned lighting! I’d still head back there for 2nds though!

5⁄5 stars for the food and 3⁄5 for the décor. I wanted to give them 5 stars but it takes a perfect situation to get it. The food here is simply fantastic. I has a great salad with brussel sprouts and an egg in it. The cap steak was simply awesome. Served sliced with a real nice mix of vegetables and a great taste to it. I mean special. My wife had soup and a salmon dish that she raved equally over. The waitress was perfect as well as the other supporting staff. The space was the only area that we thought didn’t match the quality of the food. Little loud and not designed with tlc. I would highly advise to try it. I will be back for sure. We parked in a parking structure just north on the same block.

Visited Chartreuse about a week ago. Everything was excellent. Service, Apps, Main Course, Ambiance. Went with a few friends and shared a bunch of things. Loved the Duck, but everything had excellent flavor. Please check this place out.

The knowledgeable waiter went through the fairly complicated menu, and by the time he got to the Recovery Park vegetables, my friend broke out with a real bad case of Park Slope Hives, and was frothing at the mouth worse than his neighbor’s rescue pit, the one clad in the paisley scarf. «Remove his fedora and stab him in the goddam forehead, it’s his only chance of survival,» I said while fumbling for the epipen. But it was too late. Cops called it another craft cocktail, well-curated charcuterie casualty, and there was nothing they could do about it. Case closed. We didn’t bother eulogizing him. After all, we had duck confit and a twice cooked egg to eat. Neither of these items were particularly memorable, but then again, we were all incredibly distraught since there weren’t any Brussels Sprouts on the menu to sample. «How could this happen? No Brussels Sprouts at a place like this?» one of our friend’s remarked, before rolling Justin’s body out onto the curb so the rest of us could order our delicious digestifs.

First visit, the highs, great space and service. The lows, the torn up street and my main, duck confit. It was kinda ho hum with bland barley. The best thing I consumed was the octopus app, followed by the asparagus Caesar. The vanilla pudding was very tasty. A tad too sweet but I had a coffee to temper the sweetness. I have to come back for the twice cooked egg. All in all this is a nice addition to the Detroit scene. I appreciate the attention to detail and the noise level. I could actually have a conservation without yelling. A cappuccino machine and San Pellegrino would take this place over the top.(Call me high maintenance).

So, I waited too long to write this review of Chartreuse. But though the edges of my memory are fading, one fact is crystal clear: It’s peeerrrrrrrrrrrty. From start to finish. And I mean everything: The decorations, the bar, the bathrooms, and most importantly, the plated food. When I walked in, I was immediately taken in by how different Chartreuse is than the other trendy restaurants in town– and most pleasantly so. Since many other reviews have focused on décor, I’ll stop at saying that they perfectly captured the relaxed, local and soothing«country» feel while at the same time, pulling it off in a modern way. It takes a LOT for a salad to rise to the top of the meal. The twice cooked egg soared past the STEAK to win the title. And not because the steak wasn’t good. I wouldn’t have ordered it if it hadn’t earned so many rave reviews, and I’m so glad I did. Chartreuse has this way of capturing so many levels of flavor. There were citrusy, sweet, sour, salty, and vinegar elements binding the fried egg to the greens, and the crunchy brussel sprouts added more great texture. The sweet pea ricotta also earned a lot of praise, and I enjoyed it a lot– though I wouldn’t say I’d run back for this alone. The best part was the marinated tomatoes playing with the salted bread. The ricotta was smooth and creamy, though not as flavorful as it could be. I must mention the farm potatoes here: Is it just me, or does a soggy potato make you sad? True, you can’t go wrong with garlic, herbs and butter. Unless, of course, a potato with no crispy crunch is swimming in a sea of this. But! Onto the steak! Their cap steak dish is a gorgeous creation. A variety of charred, colorful vegetables(including green beans, squash, more marinated tomatoes, yay!) surround the steak along with a fresh pesto sauce for dipping. The vegetables were about as good as the steak. Everything had a great smokey flavor and was perfectly prepared. It has a small, rotating and well planned/executed menu. Flavor and aesthetics guarantee a return.

Party of 4 for Detroit Restaurant week! 2 ordered drinks, $ 10 each. Small serving glass but they each liked their mixed drinks. Chartruese also makes their own pop and their lemonade sounds yummy! Easy to make reservation on their website. Parking either street or in the Park Shelton garage, which they validate but it’s small. Was full on this Saturday night! Steak tartare — yummy housemate chips and delish steak with small avocado and mango chunks. I inhaled it because it was so good, refreshing, and a decent sized serving! Smoked Salmon was a hit with a dinner mate — it’s an actual piece of salmon not just thinly sliced pieces. Hooray! Another loved his summer Caesar salad, which he was warned does come with a salty, anchovy based dressing but it was exactly what he’d wanted. TWICECOOKEDEGG. I’ve left a tip just about this dish but my friend and I agree: It’s delicious! YES! Like I don’t even know how or what, but the dressing and the egg and the crispness and the sweetness despite it being Brussels and pea sprouts… I will hands down order this every time they offer it. Like can I go back tomorrow? Two diners got the short rib with grits, rave reviews. My duck confit with barley«risotto» was creamy and amazing. I’m a sucker for duck and especially if it’s not super fatty and off bone. Winner! Another friend got the white fish, he cleaned his plate first! We all loved our respective main courses. Two of us ordered the lemon pound cake for dessert. It was good, if deconstructed, but I wonder if they would have rather gotten either the doughnuts or a different appetizer instead. Overall, great menu for DRW, good service, great location and ambience and I love the changing menu. Excited to potentially have Chartreuse be a regular place for me and my friends! Especially with proximity to DIA, DSO and other places to hangout! — it’s not on Grubbable app, hopefully soon?

If I could only choose one thing to eat from Chartreuse it would have to be the twice cooked egg. Most recently my friends and I ordered a plate each of the twice cooked egg. Was it enough? No. I hungrily eyed their plates hoping they had something, anything leftover that I could snag but alas, their plates were as clean as mine.

I want to say that I am tired of writing great reviews for new Detroit restaurants but I am not. I am very excited for it, and so damn happy to see this change. Chartreuse hits on all levels. From calling in to find out about table availability, friendly and courteous. To getting in and getting seated, everyone greets you and is glad you are there. And look around the place beautiful colors and that plant wall art is awesome. The bar portion cannot be overlooked especially with the ties to The Oakland. The cocktails are well thought out and very, very good. The Food– I suppose we should talk about the food. Not sure I want to highlight anything in particular as I have been there twice now and tried a lot of the menu items and each and every item was great. I am not a big salad person but that watermelon salad is so awesomely refreshing and tasty. We have been watching gluten these days and there are several gluten free items available for the regular items, not so much for the desserts. So yes, Go, Go now. Thanks Chartreuse for the great things you are doing.

Airy, soothing, refreshing, arousing, these are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of Chartreuse. Ambience 5: The walls are painted with an effervescent lime green. There are drooping plants, and reminiscent paintings caressing the walls. It’s open but there is a lovely bar area to enjoy the drinks, take in the sounds, and watch artists delicately craft your meal. Food/Spirits 5: The food was stupendous. The twice cooked eggs are nothing short of breathtaking. The recovery park salad, spare ribs, and salmon were all divine. When I completed my repast, I was full, but not heavy, similar to a resplendent hot air balloon on a fall day. I was so completely engrossed in my meal and atmosphere, my drink orders have slipped my mind. Service 5: I had amazing service from very generous and knowledgeable sous chefs. As stated, I sat at the bar and felt like I was a part of the entire experience. Overall it was a perfect dinner and a sensual experience.
