This is a nice, but relatively small and quiet coffee shop. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t like my coffee shops loud, but this one seems a bit TOO quiet. There’s not a large selection of pastries. When I went on a Wednesday, around 10:30 am, there were only 5⁄6 pastries left to choose from. The coffee here is SUPERSTRONG! If you need something to wake you up, definitely stop here in the morning. One sip of the Americano will do the trick! The décor is really cute and since this place is located in Mexicantown, there’s a Hispanic touch to the interior. I wouldn’t go out of my way to travel here, but if I was visiting Mexicantown and needed coffee, I’d definitely stop here!

I’m a prior barista, and so I know a bit about coffee. However, even when I was a barista, I always noticed that the emotional and physical atmosphere always influence how people react to whatever they are ordering, whether it’s good or bad. However, I’m always pleased with Café con Leche for two different reasons. 1: Their coffee is dope, period. It is micro-roasted, ethical, quality, and delicious. And this goes for black coffee, or specialty drinks. One of my favs is Don Bigote. 2. Customer service is what it should be. It’s not commercial customer service. It’s genuine. You oftentimes see Jordi(the owner) and he will be delighted to talk to you, and when he’s on bar, to make you your drink. Keep up the good work guys!

Since I am not really a local in the area, I ended up coming to Café Con Leche using my Unilocal App. At 9:30 am on a weekday, the café was quiet aside from barista and«staff» lounging at the front door enjoying the sun. Café Con Leche and Mexican Hot Chocolate to stay but we ended up being served in a takeout cup. I dislike drinking from paper cup. Free wifi so my Unilocal friend did a search and decided we should just go shopping instead…

The coffee was pretty good but there was not as much food as we had hoped! So I would come here mainly for coffee, which is reasonably priced. The employee was really sweet but pretty scattered. They were all out of lids which was an inconvenience. She forgot my vanilla in my americano but was applogetic. Pretty decent place and would probably come back!

Great atmosphere nice location but I find this place a little hit and miss. Sometimes I get a hot cup properly brewed other times it’s lukewarm. I’ve had both lukewarm lattes and pour overs. They are premium price drinks and I expect better. I think it varies with the barista(time of service 2:45pm). Don’t expect a wide variety of snacks In the afternoon. Usually one or two baked goods left over from the morning. I generally go to the bakery a few doors down beforehand to ensure a good selection. Decaf is also hit and miss, sometimes they have it other times not(Friday to Wed still none).

I stop here some mornings en route to the office or when I’m out and about. Café con Leche’s Southwest location is one of a few classic, old school coffee shops in Detroit that are offer a warm, communal vibe plus an affordable and quality selection of food and drink products. Great place to read a book, work, meet with friends, or whatever, and I love the location at the corner of Clark Park. They usually have a selection of delish pastry items.

Cute café, cute ambiance. The latte wasn’t really made with expertise or knowledge — I would probably go with drip next time because it’s impossible to get wrong. But the ambiance is great for working.

both locations are charming in their own ways. at the Mexicantown location, had a great cup of black coffee and vegetarian sandwiches. it was amazing how good the sandwiches were with only about 4 – 5 ingredients. met the owner at the other location and he was extremely attentive and nice. He explained the different processes for caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee beans while his kids were running around for the outdoor movie at the new center. I felt right at home and nostalgic. so good to see genuine small business owners embracing the community and being dedicated to their craft. this coffee shop was representative to me of the great promise of this beautiful city.

Great coffee shop in SW Detroit. The Mexican hot chocolate is amazing. Parking is a struggle.

I’m sitting here on a quiet morning, checking a few things online and enjoying one of the smoothest, most lovely cups of coffee I’ve ever had.(For a frame of reference, I’m a barista in my town and a pretty serious all-the-time coffee drinker — I’m comparing to a lot of cups). It’s one of their hand poured varieties — choose the one that sounds good to you and spring for the premium cup rather than the auto drip. While I’m confident that their quick cups are good quality, this is truly a treat!

@Eric M, I’ll tell you why it doesn’t have a lot of reviews: because we like it and therefore would prefer not to say anything bad about it, so we don’t say anything at all. Ever intrepid, I’m gonna say it. Yes, CCL has a lot of positives — pastries are not among them, but a lot of other things. However, the hours are just completely nonsensical and business-killing. Closed on Sundays?! A prime weekend leisure day? Dios mio, I assure you, God wants you to be open. And closing every day at 5:30, while not even opening til maybe 10 or 10:30, or whenever whoever is working decides, on Saturdays? Bad, bad. Every weekend, the morning crowd must go somewhere else. Every day, a nearly full shop is forcefully removed like Cherokees at 5:30. And every Sunday, we go to Astro, because we must. It always kills me when naïve self-employed business owners make stupid mistakes, then wonder why they aren’t doing better. There’s café hopping critical mass here — now, if not before. If the hours were better, the café would do better. Plus, it opens up a huge competition vulnerability. It’s also a little cliquish with some of the staff, but I accept that because it’s a neighborhood place and the area has been on the defense for a while. It’s not ideal for new customers, but I can deal.

A nice, comfortable café in Detroit. They have standard coffee drinks as well as some Mexican specialties. A great place to have coffee with some friends or sit down with a book alone. It’s a quiet atmosphere with a very friendly staff. They were more than willing to answer questions, and they even serve mate in the traditional fashion. However nothing was that impressive. Everything was fine and people were very friendly, but there is better coffee in town. They also had no lids when I got a coffee to go… Café con Leche is definitely worth a shot as a study coffee shop or if you’re looking for a Mexican variance, but strictly in terms of coffee, it’s not my favorite in town.

How come Detroit’s most successful coffee shop – along what is probably the city’s most active, walkable, urban corridor – isn’t chock full of Unilocal reviews? It must have something to do with the fact it’s so unassuming, but that’s largely what makes it so gosh-darn likable. It doesn’t leave a strong impression, but you keep coming back. After the fourth or fifth time, it occurs to you… this place gets everything right, which is far rarer than one might expect. I suppose we would could carp on the very conventional interior: barebone walls bedecked with local artists’ accomplishments, just like every other coffee shop. But the never-flashy menu gets everything right. Bocadillos, Latin American specialty drinks, and a conventional cup of joe in generous porcelain glasses – all of it deftly prepared. Friendly service(nearly always from the hard-working Catalonian owner), great wifi, and a well-honed neighborhood vibe. Clean and comfortable. Sure, I wish the hours were later, but the owner’s justification(to spend more time with his children) is perfectly understandable and widely known. Café con Leche may not have any of the wow factor of something along La Rambla, but we’re Midwesterners here… ostentation isn’t likely to win us over. Here’s hoping this fine entrepreneurial venture keeps going strong and eventually opens a second location in New Center as promised!

The atmosphere here makes you want to stay awhile. The barista was kind, worked like he was skilled in all things coffee and smiled enough to make me and my guest feel at home. The espresso I had was strong, strong and more strong. JUSTTHEWAY I LIKEIT. The café was loaded with all the neighborhood magazines, events and happenings on the counter which made me feel welcome within my community. First visit here, but definitely not my last!

Café con Leche maintains everything that I love about Southwest: quant yet delicious and entrepreneurial. The café is small but so quant, with large mugs for caffeinated heaven and mix-matched seating. They offer a variety of Hispanic inspired café drinks with cinnamon and chocolate as stars. My lattes are prepared well and the service is always incredibly friendly. This is definitely a great spot to sit and read or conduct work with the free wi-fi. The vibe here is conducive to creative thinkers and businessman alike while those of us who simply need a caffeine fix are pleasantly served.

I have to visit here more in order to write a proper review. My first visit was yesterday. I had the mocha. It was delicious, spicy, cinnamon-y. I think I’ll hold off on the whipped cream next time. I would like to explore the menu more so, please, I’m open to suggestions. The outside of the building is grogeous. Reminds me of how Bagely used to look when I was younger.

This place is mildly confounding and yet satisfying. Owned by a couple in Ferndale, this café does bring a little taste of that kind of ex-urban flair to this café — in fact, I would say that dominates the ambiance as opposed to the Southwest’s Mexican or Latino influence. Also definitely a lot of university affiliated people(students and faculty) here. It is a great place to get work done as it has a fairly consistent pleasant din replete with people speaking in Spanish and English, with trip hop playing on the house music, and the sound of milk being steamed. There’s a variety of seating options including couches and small tables. Lots of big windows and during the holiday season, they hang beautiful christmas lights over them. Their coffee is pretty decent. Their tea selection is restrained but still present. What I really love is their fresh salads and baguette sandwiches. Fast, healthful, affordable nourishment. The service is quiet but friendly enough — they bring your drinks to your table which is a nice little bonus if you’re raring to start working. Free wi-fi with password. Good food. Good coffee. Mellow atmosphere for work or play.
