I love this hidden little gem. Although now that they are building up the midtown area it is not so hidden anymore. I’ve been coming to Avalon for years, before all the new shops and restaurants moved in the neighborhood. I recommend coming here bright and early and getting a hot sticky bun, they are worth every damn calorie. Their cookies are also great, very soft, chewy and tasty. They have a great selection of breads and other pastries as well as some sandwiches and coffee, give this place a try!

I had one of their egg sandwiches on a biscuit when visiting my Mom during her hospital stay. I was desperately hungry and that was the one place that caught my eye. There wasn’t much of a crowd but the server I had looked like she couldn’t be bothered with helping me. The biscuit was pulled from their refrigerated section and the final prepared sandwich was placed in their microwave. A few minutes later I was given the sandwich and the biscuit was hard and still cold. I ate a little bit of the sandwich but trashed most of it. Maybe I ordered the one item they make crappily. But it along with the service left little desire to return.

Best food at Henry Ford Main. It is pricy and the service can be slow so if you are press for time don’t come here. I don’t particularly find the food amazing but like I said it is the best food at Henry Ford Main. The veggie chili is pretty good. Get it with the olive bread. I’ve had the quiche before and its bland.

Wow, maybe I haven’t been to the Willis location soon enough but menu has improved and expanded. This satellite HFHC location is just what the doctor ordered. The salads with fresh greens including kale salads and Greeks are crisp and balanced with beautiful accoutrements. The dessert selection is not as wide as Willis but I like it that way. There’s plenty of fruit cups to choose from and I’m talkin at least 2 cups of blue berries, kiwi, grapes and strawberries. The vegetarian delights are delectable nothing boring here. I had the Greek Hummus sandwich grilled and it was a nice twist on two of my favorite flavors. Of course the bread was the bomb, an olive bread with whole olives in the slices! Greek girl eat your heart out. I also had a greek salad with a well balanced balsamic. I was tempted to visit another local chicken and waffle fav but after getting my blood pressure reading in the office upstairs, I knew better choices needed to be made. There are plenty of great healthy choices to go around. They use herbs & spices to excite your palette in the way that fat, sugar and salt typically do. Avalon, you do food well. Artistic even. The service was fast, efficient, professional and friendly. The line is never too long or too short; people come in by the couple but are served quickly. The impulse buys of kale chips, seeds, nuts and baked goods make you want to stay for a while all the while there’s not much space. I’m not a coffee drinker but the aroma of the blends make me want to be. I grabbed a Tazo Black Tea a new 60 calorie per bottle variety. This was great! Thank you for making my good choices more rewarding!
