This place is cool. It is a creative minds dream. I came here for stuff for my wedding, fabric because they were having a huge fabric sale, it is hit or miss with that(I was looking for something very specific) but once exploring the rest of the place it is so cool, it is fun to look down every aisle looking for little stuff for making crafts. I am a Girl Scout Troup co-leader and I cant wait to get back here over the summer so me and my Troup leader can plan some stuff out for the next year!!!

I volunteer here regularly, and all personal bias aside — A&S is one of the greatest places on the planet… don’t take that lightly… I cannot emphasize enough how great of a place this is. They’re only open T/Th and Sat. from 11 – 4(or 5ish, depending on who’s working that day and how they feel towards extending generosity to desperate customers) :) But this is truly one of the greatest places in Detroit… and your donation(s) really make a huge impact, even if you don’t initially believe you have much we could use — just take a look at the A&S wish list and see what a difference you can make:

I’ve gone before and I have seen the amazing work this place does but the 3ton fabric sale was beyond awesome! I cannot say how excited I am to begin using the fabric to create things! Oh and how about the jackpot pile of yarn I found that was marked $ 1 a skein! YESSS!!! I’ve never encountered a face here that didn’t have a big child like grin on it. The things you will discover and find here is outstanding. It’s fun to strike up conversations with people to find out what thir purchase is going to become! I simply love this hidden gem! more folks need to know about this place! Keep up the great works arts and scraps!

WOW! Walking into this place is like tripping down into a rabbit hole into a wonderful world of green friendly, creative, unique world of arts & crafts heaven! It’s like the most amazing arts & crafts super garage sale you could ever imagine. Everywhere I looked, I saw completely unique items that made my mind run on overload thinking of all the potential projects! This weekend in particular was their huge(apparently annual) fabric sale… rooms and tables buckling with fabrics of all sorts — fit all you can stuff into a paper grocery bag for only $ 8! Insane. They sell individual craft kits for under $ 2 each… sets of 10 for only $ 8. Perfect for teachers or parents looking to keep kids busy with something creative and fun. If you’re looking for a picture frame… a garbage bag full of old bottle caps…200 used compact discs… a handful of sequins…6 coffee cans of various sizes… or anything else you can think of(or never thought of!), you can find it at Arts & Scraps.(Plus they’re a non-profit, run largely by volunteers and all about recycling and re-using goods… so you can feel even better about your purchases when you leave.)

Recycling 28 tons of industrial material a year Detroit’s Arts and Scraps is not only a great place to help the environment, but also a superb way to introduce art to kids in a unique way. This non-profit organization located on Harper, just off of I-94 is a must for kids and adults alike. Offering innovative and educational projects for kids, Arts and Scraps is loaded with over 300 different materials that kids can create the most exciting pieces of art with. This organization also is open for field trips and is willing to travel to schools to host curriculum specific projects like building robots for physical science or masks and puppets for a multi – cultural lesson.
