Great place to stop! Excellent coffee plus they have a small selection of yogurts, snacks and fresh pastry. The service is most wonderful as well — always happy to start my day with Local Coffee!

This is a nice coffee shop on the Des Plaines Metra station. I like that most of the staff is well groomed but there are a couple of employees who habitually look like they just got out of bed — that is the only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars. I am sure the manager is aware of this but just does not know how to approach it. Hopefully this review gives him/her some motivation.

A great coffee shop! And not just for Metra commuters — for anyone. Des Plaines has a serious shortage of good coffee(not from a chain), and Local is filling this niche(unfortunately, they are only open on weekdays). Not only is the coffee good — the staff is friendly, the small space is well designed, and the donuts(from West Town Bakery) are amazing. Another plus(especially for parents of young children), you can watch the trains pull in and out of the station. What to try: The coffee(obviously), donuts(any kind, but Maple Bacon Cream Cheese is a family favorite), Chai Tea Latte, and Spicy Hot Chocolate(event my kids like it).

Damn!!! This coffee is amazing. These were the first words out of my mouth. Initially I was hesitant trying this place out as I am super biased towards Starbucks but this place has some really nice fresh coffee. It’s very convenient as its inside the train station. I wish this place had better times like from 7 – 9 and open during weekends. There is a library right in front of the station and lots of students come to study and would love decent coffee even in weekends while studying. Overall great coffee.

Great coffee from a small business. Genuinely friendly people. I waited a long time for a place like this to open in Des Plaines.

Love this place. Not only is it super conveniently located right inside the Metra station, thy also boast some great coffee and really pleasant staff. From a plain latte, hot or cold, to their epic cold brews, to their flavored coffees and smoothies, you just can’t go wrong. The pastries might be a bit dangerous though, but only to your waistline. So support this great local spot and do something nice for yourself at the same time. Two birds, one delicious, caffeinated stone.

This coffee shop is truly a gem serving delicious coffee and pasties in the heart of Des Plaines in the Metra Station! I’d highly recommend stopping in to get your morning coffee as they are open early usually by about 6 am. Today i enjoyed a delicious cup of iced coffee that was AMAZING!!! Prices are very reasonable and definitely worth the stop, you won’t be disappointed!

A local, independent gem in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the Local Coffee Tea & Sweets is a haven for coffee aficionados and tea lovers alike. The drip coffee from award-winning Metropolis is incredibly good — so good that no cream or sugar is needed! Superbly crafted using Illy espresso, their cappuccinos and lattes are made to perfection and will more than satisfy your caffeine addiction. Not a fan of coffee? Grab a cup of hot tea from quality Harney & Sons. If you’re in the mood for a little treat, you simply cannot go wrong with one of their delicious donuts from sustainable, gluten-free West Town Bakery. It’s always a tough choice between the chocolate glaze, maple bacon, and nutella coffee. They also offer greek yogurt with imported greek honey, homemade fruit parfaits, and chocolate biscotti. Good looking and friendly baristas, clean and cool atmosphere inside the metra station, amazing coffee, tea, and sweets, what’s not to love?! Come stop by the Local Coffee, you won’t regret it!

Amazing coffee. I live in Des Plaines, about 10 minutes away from this coffee shop in the Metra Station, but it’s worth my drive on a day off to get a good cup of coffee.

This is becoming my favorite coffee spot in Des Plaines now. For a while only option we had was Starbucks to get a cup of coffee but owners Russ and John brought a cool concept of bringing great coffee(Metropolis & Illy) to commuters. Their pastries are great too. I’m going to get fat trying all of them now. :-) The staff is very friendly and their coffee is great. I live in Des Plaines but still stop by there(walking distance from my place) to just quickly grab some coffee and chat with the owners for a bit. They are going to get some outdoor seating soon once the weather warms up. Look forward to hanging out there more often! My only wish is that they stay open little later than 1pm but once the weather warms up, I heard they are extending their hours too.

Great coffee dispensed by artisanal barista who know the bean. Black sunshine in a cup to put spring in your step and a smile on your face.

Good quality. Flavorful coffee at a reasonable price. Great staff and baristas who pay attention to every drink they prepare. Refreshing change from assembly line coffee shop chains that survive on brand promise.

So this morning I must have walked to the train faster than normal and had some extra time. So I stopped in for a coffee for the first time, and so glad I did! First, it is spotless! I loved how bright and clean it was, always a great sign! Second, everyone working there was delightful! Super friendly, clearly enjoy what they are doing, and it was a pleasure to start my day with such nice people. Third — they have almond milk!!! For us dairy and soy free people, this is huge! Most coffee places only carry soy as an alternative but don’t realize that soy and milk allergies are closely related. So to find a place that has almond meant I got to treat myself to a latte! Finally, my latte– delish!!! Can’t wait to bring my kids in on a Saturday AM, they will love selecting a doughnut from their gourmet selection and I can have another latte! Keep up the awesome work, local coffee!

Local Coffee is a really cool coffee bar that gives out a Chicago vibe in the downtown Des Plaines Metra station. I am a town local and I get excited when there is a new business in our downtown area(it is pretty desolate out here in downtown Des Plaines, there’s about 5 churches, 10 banks, 20 dentists, and 40 insurance agencies so there isn’t anything fun for anyone under 40 around here.), so I had to check this place out! This place has great coffee, I got the morning blend twice and the Christmas blend once. They pride themselves over the brand they use(I don’t remember), but apparently it is the best coffee bean in Illinois! It wasn’t expensive either, It was about 2.75 for a large cup, which kept me awake for the next 24 hours. The staff is really friendly and efficient, I’ve even talked to the owner a little bit. He seems to care about his business, he’s been there the few times I’ve come and he seems to treat his staff well. Now onto the DONUTS!!! OMG those donuts are like PILLOWSOFFRIEDDELICIOUSNESS. I guess the donuts they use are the winner of some kind of donut festival(which I need to find out where this magical place is) and by the time I get there, usually at 9am, the donuts are almost gone, if not totally gone. So far I’ve had the vanilla iced with sprinkles, and that was SOGOOOOD, but the best one I’ve had blew my mind. It was a pretzel, cookies, and crème donut. It was a Bismarck style donut with some kind of crazy cookies and crème filling topped off with pretzel rods. I’ve never had anything like that in my life, and I have obviously been missing out. They also have a MAPLEBACONDONUT, I have not tried it but it has BACON on TOP. I have not had anything else on their menu, but they have Ghirardelli’s Hot Chocolate and other specialty coffee drinks that they make. They also have some breakfast options like fruit, Greek yogurt, and oatmeal. There is a cooler with a lot of gourmet beverages too, such as sodas, juices, etc. The one thing they NEED to have would be seating, there is no place to sit down and relax other than the Metra station’s bench seating. If they had a few café tables and wifi, this would be a great place to hang out after picking up a book from the library across the tracks. Also, if they had tables I think they would be able to expand their menu options to include more food, such as soups and sandwiches! Overall, this is a great new place to check out and they have delicious coffee!

This coffee stand is located in the Metra Station in Des Plaines and is 1000% better than what was there previously! I had a delicious Pumpkin Spice latte that was not overly pumpkin-like, and for about half the price of Starbucks. I also picked up a bismark-type pastry that had a cream cheese filling and covered in a maple frosting with real bacon pieces on top. Outstanding! All for around $ 6 and it’s right there if you’re waiting for your train to arrive. Everyone behind the counter was friendly and helpful and quickly gave me a punch card that will get me a free drink in 9 more visits. I will definitely be back!
