We finally made our way to the new Drake Bakery and Restaurant on Mothers Day. We had planned on having a late breakfast only to discover that they were only serving a Mothers Day«brunch” — and after a little deliberation, we decided to stay and try it. I’m really glad we did! Choice of 3 meats(ham, fried chicken or pot roast) curb or green beans almondine, real mashed potatoes and choice of 2 desserts. Everything was delicious. Well– made comfort food, great service, clean, bright, slightly funky atmosphere and a nice chat with the owner. We also looked over the regular menus and prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Nestled in the Drake East Neighborhood just off of Forest and 23rd is a new spot – the Drake Bakery Café & Bar. A nice, feels like home, type of atmosphere. The hospitality is tops. An American style restaurant with an affinity for the French Quarter. We stopped for breakfast and had standard fare; eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee. All was as I expected, very good, but the potatoes were really good(skillet potatoes, peppers and onions), just right. As well, the coffee comes in a French Press, which was strong just like I like it. Being they have a flair for the French Quarter, I had to try the Beignets. I’m not a Beignet connoisseur, but they were really good. I got half powdered half bavarian crème filled and they are kid approved. Speaking of kids, they love having them and are ready to serve them. It was nice I got to meet and have a chat with the owner – Iowa Football Great Frank Strub – He has some wonderful ideas and I wish him and his team well, they have a lot going for them. Keep up the good work. So with all that said, would I go back? You bet I would. So check it out for yourself, it’s worth it, quite literally. Good Food, Good Service, Good Prices!
