I was craving gyros & decided to look on Unilocal for places that have gyros in Des Moines. I came across Ted’s and I have heard good things about this place from other people too. I got the Gyro basket and it was good. I really like how they include coleslaw, fries & onion rings as well. Everything tasted great and the service was awesome too! Def will be coming back.

If you have never tried a gyro this is the place to go. I have been coming here for years and have introduced many friends to the joys of gyros. There menu has something for everyone but I haven’t been able to peruse past the gyros. You can get just a sandwich or a basket which includes fries, onion rings and coleslaw. In house drinks have free refills. Their onion rings are excellent! If you have room for dessert their baklava is heaven! This is a nice clean and friendly place to get something out of the ordinary

This is my first time here, I loved it! I had a lamb gyro at the art festival and came across this place and had to try it! I’m glad I did. It’s clean, the staff was friendly, even said thank you as we were leaving! The food tasted good. The lamb was tender, the food was hot. I got the basket for 9 bucks, you get a lamb gyro, fries, and onion rings and a coleslaw which to my surprise was good! It has a slight pickle taste which is different. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the onion rings and fries were baked. I liked it because it was a healthier option on their part. You also have to buy your drink separate it doesn’t come with your meal. I will deff be back.

Love the Chicago dogs and the gyros. The fresh made onion rings really set off the meal! This is a forgotten TREaSURE on Ingersoll Ave! It sits between eatery a(a toilet) and the subway right before 31st street light and just quietly is great every day of the year! Everyone should cheer an independent that ups his game to deliver great food no matter what it is. Support your local Ted’s Coney Island! It Rocks!

GF options are few, but their Greek salad is so good. Add gyro meat and you’re already at 5-stars. Gyro plate is a fantastic GF option because the tzatziki sauce is great. The coleslaw is the best around. Everything looks and smells delicious, location is great and the staff is friendly. Worth a visit!

My husband and I are huge fans of their gyros. We’ve eaten here several times. This time we each got a gyro and split a basket which comes with fries, onion rings and cole slaw. Unfortunately, the fries and onion rings weren’t as good as their gyros. The batter or coating on the onion rings was pretty bland. It tasted like it had no seasoning on it at all; like it was just bread crumbs or cornmeal alone. It had no flavor whatsoever. The fries didn’t have any flavor, either. Maybe it was the oil both were fried in. I wouldn’t order the basket again because of this. The cole slaw was pretty good, though. I’m giving this review four stars because the gyro was very good. I think they have one of the best gyros in town. Their tzatziki sauce is the best. It has the right amount of cucumber and garlic flavor in it. The only other gyro place in town that I love is Olympic Flame. I do think the gyros here are a little bit on the small side, but they are priced pretty low, so I guess I can accept that. I wish their basket included fries and a Greek salad like Olympic Flame offers. I also think that feta should automatically come on the gyro. They charge extra for that. I know I’m getting nitpicky, but that’s how I feel. They do make a good gyro here with the best tzatziki sauce(and I always get extra). I would just avoid the basket if you don’t want to be disappointed.

Ted’s Coney Island has some pretty good food. I have lived in the area for about 10 years and never made it here until recently, I was missing out. We tried the gyro and a pork tenderloin both were very tasty. I love the sides in the basket, fries, onion rings, and coleslaw. More places need to offer multiple sides in a basket. It is a pretty laid back place, very friendly staff, will be going back here to try other things.

A great place to stop before heading to the airport. They open at 10:30 and offer great food with friendly service. The only thing which prevented five starts is the restroom. I samples the Gyros and a coney dog, both were delicious.

Oh the Gyros I could live off of them! I order mine with extra meat, and am always totally full! They have some specials, but I feel there always special. Well worth the money!!! Come here quite often, maybe should take stock in them!!!

First time here. Took advice from other reviewers and had the gyro basket. Delicious gyro! Onion rings are skinny cut and fries are nothing special. As for the coleslaw, I’ve eaten many variations of slaw and Ted’s is chopped cabbage with a little chopped carrot, creamy but is FAR more vinegar than sweet. NOTE: maybe i missed this in other reviews, but drinks are extra — not included with basket. Overall a good meal, but a bit spendy at $ 22 for 2 gyro baskets and drinks. I’ll be back to try coney. Very clean and updated. Alot of windows letting in plenty of light. Fast friendly service. BONUS points for Sirius/XM playing The Chill station over sound system. Excellent!

I come here off and on for the gyros, which are fantastic. I’ve been eating here since they opened, and it’s always been a real treat. The gyros are hot and fresh, the sauce is mild and creamy, the onion rings are thin and crispy, the french fries are old school(taste like hot beef tallow, which is the best way to cook a french fry) and even the coleslaw is good. Also, guilty pleasure — I love the way they serve you crushed ice in your soda! I know, who cares, but I love it! The service is always really friendly, the food is made quickly and comes out hot. I usually dine in at lunch, or take out for dinner. The restaurant is clean and orderly, the refills are free and people are friendly. This is a Des Moines staple. I encourage people to go all the time. Try the dessert!

I’ve eaten here about 5 times and I really enjoy it. The service is great, the dining area is always clean, and then prices are reasonable. I get the Coney Dog which comes with fries, onion rings, and coleslaw. All it was made fresh(besides the coleslaw) and tasted great. I definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a no-frills, quick meal.

So! I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Kreg and I ended up here for dinner before a Mellencamp concert cuz we just couldn’t decide. We were going to Zombie Burger, but the wait was too long. Wasabi Tao is closed on Sunday’s. So we ended up at Ted’s. I had a gyro. It was really good. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was flavorful, well seasoned and the tzatziki was delicious. As some have mentioned, the place has a fast food feel for sure, but don’t let that fool you. Have a gyro! Opah! Will definitely give this place a try again!

All the times I have ever been to NYC, I have always thought well I should go out to Coney Island and see it. Cause I love that kinda classic old run down stuff you have seen in photos so many times! Sadly Coney Island is just a bit to far of a train ride from Manhattan and there is plenty to do in the city! Lucky for me, Des Moines has it’s own Coney Island, thanks to Ted! The restaurant has a strange slightly fast food diner design with a sliver ceiling that makes you feel like your in an old cable car train or something. It’s cool! The staff was super nice and explained that I could get a falafel sandwich without the sauce to make it vegan! Sweet! I did, and the falafel was amazing, as was the pita. It also had two tomato slices and some shredded lettuce! They have a drive thru and plenty of other things on the menu, most notably hot dogs, chili, burgers, fries, onion rings! For the price next time I would choose a gyro basket. The bathrooms are bit run down and old, and have seen better days, but then again so has the Cyclone roller coaster at the real Coney Island. I will be back for sure!

Love this place. Great gyros and coney dogs. Always friendly service and quality food. My wife is vegan and they remember us most of the time and let us know if their pittas have milk in them. Drive thru is handy and I usually drive thru on my way home from work. Very diverse menu from falafel to Chicago dogs to gyros. Great local place. A+

Ted is the way to go if you want a quick meal that isn’t chain. I been here a few times and enjoyed it each time with a few different items tried. The Chicago dog is really good, has all the fixings and flavor you would expect out of Chi town. Real deal on this one, I believe they use the popular Chicago brand of hot dog as well. The gyros are good, they did a great job on these. One of the best options in town if this is your thing. The cheeseburger was alright, nothing too special. Try it if you want a change of pace from fast food. Overall nice place to go eat if you want quick food and want something local for fast food.

After having an awesome time at the Unilocal event at A-Dong, my fiancé and I decided to grab some food from here after hearing Unilocalers tell us great things about the place. We went through the drive thru because we wanted to see how efficient they were and if it would be practical for getting food in a hurry. I got the Gyro basket which comes with fries, onion rings, and coleslaw. My fiancé got the Coney Dog and we got some Baklava for dessert. The wait was not long at all and would definitely recommend this drive thru for grabbing food in a hurry. The Gyro was great! It is not the best I’ve had in town, but definitely one of the better ones I had. The fries and coleslaw were very tasty, however I was not a fan of the onion rings. The Coney dog is standard, no problems at all with flavorful. The Baklava was very good. I have not had authentic Baklava so I’m not sure how it is suppose to taste. I want to thank fellow Unilocalers for introducing me to this place! Can’t wait to go and eat in one day!
