QuikTrip

I’m an aficionado of QuikTrips, which probably says something about me that isn’t complimentary, but whatever. Whenever I’m away from home – I live in the Kansas City metro, where it seems weird if you go more than three blocks without seeing the red and white sign – I always get homesick. Well, not homesick, because I’m not really missing my home. QT-​sick, I guess. Or, well, I miss Quiktrip, is what I’m saying. So when going through Des Moines on the way to my in-​laws in northern Illinois, I’m always glad to have one more QT fix before going to the untamed heathen lands, as I call the rest of the country without the blessed Trip.
This location is a solid example of why I like the store. We had stopped in on our way through on a road trip, filled the tank, used the restroom, got coffee and a slice of breakfast pizza, and were on our way. It was about 7 AM on a Saturday morning, so not the peak time – there was one other customer there, and it didn’t look like it had been that busy. Still, the coffee was fresh and the slice of breakfast pizza was warm and also fresh. You expect that during the week, when they’re going through coffee so fast they barely have time to brew it, but it’s nice to see they maintain that on the weekend, when you could expect a bit of slacking. The staff was exceptionally nice, and the store was very clean. My only negative about this location is that it’s one of the older, smaller locations, but that’s not a fair complaint; it just says more about how I’m spoiled I am by other QT locations than anything about this particular store.

QT and Caseys are my go to gas stations and convenient stores in the state of Iowa. The QTs I’ve been to in the state have all been clean, safe, and easy. They have hot food ready or ready to microwave. Their drink prices are very good. This location is no different than the other ones I’ve been to and I’ve been to many in town. Their staff are all friendly at all locations, they have a good hiring or training process I guess
