I am embarrassed to say that I had not been to the Kum and Go Theater until just this last Saturday. However, my first experience was a success! It was a great venue for the local band that we saw. Dark walls, decent acoustics, stage and lighting were alright. Standing room only, and a pretty small bar that always had a huge line. I was surprised to see that the bar DID accept credit/debit cards, but having cash was probably faster. It seems like a good place for a variety of events– easily customizable. It’s a good location with many restaurants within walking distance– in the middle of downtown(next to DSM Social Club). Parking in the garages next to the Social Club is free on weekends, so bonus! It’s my understanding that you can book your event there as well. So to all you small business owners out there, you might want to look into it!

At the start of the year I found myself being lucky enough to be one of the first people to set foot in the theater(I have some great friends). The Social Club was still months away from being finished and there wasn’t a whole lot scheduled to partake in the theater yet but there was already a great buzz about the place that was apparent the moment that I entered the room. It has a great feel to it and is ample size. The stage and seating can be easily rearranged in order to fit events of various sizes and styles. By now I’ve attended three significantly different events there; a play, a Gloom Balloon show(who needs Har Mar Superstar when you can have Patrick Tape Fleming?), and a burlesque show that was a part of the Social Club’s grand opening. All where entertaining in their own right(local acting+local tunes+local boobs=brilliant). This place is special — hopefully the planets align and it reaches its full potential.

Very nice set and great lighting. Somewhat small accommodations. I saw the play ‘fences.’

We saw the production of «Fences» at the Kum & Go Theater and it was terrific! What a pleasant surprise. The theater is a great addition to DM. Fences has an all black cast — individuals you might recognize such as Tiffany Johnson and Odell McGhee. Showing until June 29! Don’t miss it.

Very nice configurable live theater space. I’ve attended a few events here and all have worked well in the space. As the space fills out, more options will be available is my understanding. Street and ramp parking nearby. Options for food and other entertainment is within walking distance. Overall I like this space.

I’m so excited that the Des Moines Social Club’s Kum and Go Theater is open for business! Last night was my first experience in the Black Box Theater! It was awesome! I got to play a show with Har Mar Superstar and MAIDS! The place is 2nd to none, awesome video projection screen so I did not have to bring my own, Great sound system and the staff who I think were mostly volunteers were incredibly nice and professional! I got the opportunity to see some of the behind the scenes spots like the artist back stage green rooms and these were the best in town at any venue for sure! I’m super excited this is finally open as I hope to be attending many theater productions, and concerts here! Super excited when the weather warms up to enjoy a beer on the open roof as well! Also cool art by local legend Van Holmgren welcomes you to the theater! Great SPOT!
