On a quest to find any store in Des Moines that sold professional plus size clothing, I stopped here. Women under 60: there is nothing for you here. Women seeking suits or other professional clothes: there is nothing for you here. Crazy cat ladies, come on in: you’re home.
Catherine’s on Merle Hay Road is your one stop shop for shapeless tent-​sized knits, gaudy Christmas sweaters, and nightgowns that scream «I haven’t wanted to be touched by a man since the Nixon administration». The weight of the world descended upon me as I entered this store and hung with me the rest of the day. The depressing ambience of the outdated formless clothing is matched by the clerks. The customers seemed resigned to shopping here. I escaped with my dignity intact, having suffered only small hits to my self esteem. However, my therapist has advised me not to return unless I cannot suppress a manic episode and he cannot be reached.
Bonus: industrial carpet is both threadbare and curiously stained throughout the store.

I love Cathrines clothes, but not the elderly clerk that works at this store! I will from now on go to the southside Cathrines to do my business, since its obvious, this clerk just isnt happy and doesnt like people, or her job! Wow, she is very bitter! And I love to shop, thank goodness I only got one item! I think it will be a much better shopping experience if I go to the southside store! You can bank on that!!!
