Abelardos

Went there once and witnessed a cook wash her hands, didn’t rinse the soap off completely and then started cooking meat. I literally saw the soap dropping off her hands right into the meat. I’m sure it won’t hurt anything but just seeing that has convinced me to never eat here. Peace.

You need to eat here! Fast, friendly & SO FLAVORFUL! And they have a drive thru! lol I had the beef burrito smothered in queso, enchilada, rice & beans. Big portions & everything was good! Sadly like another reviewer mentioned they are not always open when they say they are. My first attempt to try this place… I drove 15min at midnight to find them closed!!:(Thats the ONLY reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5!

I wanted something to eat before watching the football games on Sunday, so I decided to stop by Abelardos. I’m usually at this place around 2am after the bars close, but today I’m a good boy :) Abelardos gives you a lot of food for your money and they also cook your food when it’s ordered, so it comes out hot and fresh.
I got my usual #7, the 2 beef burrito combo. It comes with 2 ginormous burritos (just check out my picture!) that are filled with ground beef and beans. You also get a side of rice and beans with it and the total is around $ 8. I love their hot sauce as well… it provides just the right amount of kick without overwhelming the flavor of the burrito.
There are a lot of other items to choose from, such as quesadillas, tortas, tacos, fish tacos, breakfast items, and a whole lot more. So if you’re in the mood for some tasty Mexican food that is cooked to order and at a reasonable price, you should check out this place… drunk or sober :)

I love Mexican food and Abelardo’s has the freshest, most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever tried. They start cooking it just after you order. I’ve tried the Steak Nachos (HUGE serving with lots of flavor), shrimp — delicious, tacos — generous portion of meat, nestled in a bed of shredded lettuce with puck de gallo topping.

A hidden treasure! Be prepared to wait for your order but the wait is so worth it. We come her for the steak and egg burrito smothered in queso. OMG HEAVEN!!!
There have been times that it wasn’t open even during normal business hours but that doesn’t stop us from coming back.

It’s not bad food for a fast food type delivery. The carnitas were moist and flavorful. Kreg seemed to like his burrito as well. I thought the refried beans were definitely under salted, but that may be a matter of taste. 4 stars for the food, minus one star cuz I didn’t care for the surrounding. Seemed a bit drab and depressing. Could be cuz we were the only ones there. I dunno. I will definitely give them another go one day and will update my review if needed.

When I lived Southern California they had these great little Mexican fast food joints everywhere; finally we have that here! This is a great place! Wonderful Mexican fast food, great service, and clean environment.

What Mexican food should be. Great flavor. Great service. Large portions. Good salsa bar. An old Taco Bell with real cooks inside.

As close as you can get to authentic mexican food in Des Moines IA. Great selection of food and salsa bar. Prices are spot on. I love this place.
