Without a doubt, Big Wang serves high quality Chinese food! However, while the food is a star, service is often brusque and sometimes downright hostile, and that’s coming from someone who actually speaks Mandarin too. If only the staff were a smidge more friendly, I would probably update this to a 5-star review. My top hits as they pertain to FOOD include: — any of the meat skewers — the dry hot pot — the mountain yam and wood ear mushrooms — baby napa sautéed with pork belly — any of the Szechuan specialties! The intimidating waitstaff isn’t enough of a deterrent to keep me from coming here, but I would have a much more pleasant experience if I didn’t feel so anxious every time I needed to ask for a water refill because of the spicy food!

If you like spicy Chinese food, try this place. It offers authentic Sichuan style dishes and the food is amazing. I took away one start for the waiting time and service.

Ordered House Special Beef Noodle Soup, lamb skewers, and cucumber salad. Soup was good and solid. The lamb skewers were dry and very tough. The cucumber salad was a zesty blend of garlic, peppers, dressing, and cucumbers. I liked it. Service was reasonable.

As mentioned by many, Big Wang’s is authentic style Chinese/Szechuan cuisine, different from the«American» Chinese food we all are familiar with The only thing I care about at this place is the Dry Hot Pot(s) which is listed on separate menu, and is like a broad spectrum of varying dishes depending on how you customize ingredients – (very similar to Mongolian grill style, which none exist nearby): You select 6+ items($ 2-$ 3 each) from a large list of meats/seafood/vegetables– all cooked together at whatever level of spicyness you choose(pot serves 2 or more people). I love the max«extra spicy» which gives both a wonderfully strong spicy chili pepper taste(hot pepper oil) along with the unique tingling/numbing szechuan peppercorn flavor. The different combination of ingredients always produces a boldly distinctive flavor/experience unlike anything else I’ve come across in the area.

Good food. Horrible service. They gave us the wrong orders. The heavier, spiky hair waitress had no intention of helping us or correcting the order. She just wanted to argue. She gave us a huge attitude and poker face throughout the dinner.

As a spicy food lover, you have to try this place out! The only problem we encountered twice was it took quite a while for the food to come out, so if you are in a rush or very hungry, problem come another time. Recommendation: FuQiFeiPian, Lamb skewer, HongShaoRou(Braised Pork pot)

OMG I’ve been to Sichuan, China several times and I love their food and this place is definitely authentic Brisket and Tripe the spice is just perfect and don’t forget to try their lamb skewers the seasoning is very authentic. I ate that stuff all the time when I was in the streets of Sichuan. Just thinking about it makes me wanna go. But there is one flaw their food is pretty slow. So if you are want try this place make sure your schedule is free.

Fantastic Chinese restaurant whose specialty is dry hot pot(干锅, gan guo) I brought my parents here for a taste of China, since they had enjoyed hot pot so much when they visited and I am especially fond of gan guo. For the uninitiated — you pick the individual ingredients for your customized gan guo: mushrooms, noodles, tofu, meat, seafood, etc. You then tell them how spicy you want it to be. We had a vegetable gan guo with tofu at a mild spice level, and it was exactly like I remember them tasting in China: a delightful medley of cumin, spice, garlic, and ginger, with perfectly sauteed vegetables. Unlike regular hot pot, gan guo has a sauce but is not soupy. The portions were quite large: we had more than enough food for the three of us, plus generous left-overs. Our service was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is casual, and it tends to be quite popular so there will be ambient noise. I will absolutely be coming back here soon!

Terrible service. Waited for over ten minutes, and no one served us or even spoke to us. Another couple entered the restaurant and was helped immediately. The atmosphere wasn’t that great either, it didn’t feel«clean». Hopefully next time I want to try out a new place I won’t be as disappointed.

Just come here. Just do it. Ignore the 3 star rating, Unilocal is wrong in this case. Believe me, I won’t let you down unless you like shitty food or have poor taste. Come here and get the dry hot pot. Order all the deliciousness, eat your heart out, and don’t ever leave. I left and now I’m forever sad… and lonely.

Food was delicious! Authentic Sichuan cuisine. We ordered spicy tofu 麻婆豆腐, fish in oil 水煮鱼, string beans 干煸四季豆 and fried pork trotters 猪蹄 and dry hot pot 麻辣干锅(you choose lots of different things that they will cook– like a spicy stir-fry).

As my brother states and eaten many times, their dry hot pot is good. I like it quite a lot. My brothers wife orders it for us, you pick your protein, veggies, and level of spice. Medium spice is fine with me. Lots of peppercorn spices. They have a great $ 6.95 lunch. Pick 3 entrees and includes egg roll, soup, and either fried rice, lo mien, or white rice. Now asking what’s in their cafeteria style lunch special is a challenge if you don’t speak Chinese. Please have name of each choice labeled so we don’t have to guess. Thus the lower rating. It’s a night and day difference when you are dining with someone that is Chinese compared to when dining without. As another Unilocaler states if you pay cash, you pay 5% less. Come here for their dry hot pot!

If you’re looking for Chinese/Szechuan food, Get Over Here! Don’t come here looking for American Chinese. You’re Wrong, Go see Panda or their«gourmet» PF Changs.(Nothing wrong with either of those, love them for fast food or American Chinese… Wait, I just said the same thing twice) This is for those in search of Legit Chinese. The only reason this place has 3 stars… only Chinese speaking customers(not that they don’t know how to Unilocal… But majority probably don’t know how to Unilocal) Dry Hot Pot, pick items from different price categories and tell them how spicy. There are many items to choose from, some may be a little disturbing for the faint of heart.(Don’t worry, nothing like cats or dog) They have a huge menu besides the dry hot pot. Just a heads up, Bring Cash! 5% discount for paying with cash. Try it before you knock it! Enjoy.

1\26 — just want to add a small review to the lunch special weekdays only. I happened to notice it during my visit to big Wang last week. Today, a snow mix day, I decided to get it a try with my husband. We were there promptly at 11am and nothing was ready, so we came back around 11:20. Most of dishes are ready around 11:45. They have good 15~17 dishes to pick from, White rice, and egg roll with fruit. We tried steam fish, general tso’ chicken, eggplant, braised spare ribs, meatballs, pepper beef. Over all, all of them are average relish with the price we paid(under $ 15) for 6 dishes. We don’t like the soups but it is always good to have some extra treat. The special also comes with fruits — a slice of apple and Orange. I like what I got and will go back to try other dishes at a fraction of the regular dish price

If you are in the mood for spicy Chinese/Szechuan food, Big Wang is a good place to go. The food is delicious and authentic. This place is known for their dry hot pot. Basically, it’s a stir fry of whatever vegetable, meat, or starch you want. The level of spiciness is up to you. The cost of this dish depends on how many items you pick. It’s guaranteed to be very tasty and filling! We went with beef, beef tendon, cabbage, potato, squid, lotus root, mushrooms, and fried tofu puff. Lamb and Beef skewers: I prefer the lamb ones. Very well seasoned and not too dry. They’re about $ 2 per skewer. Steamed Chicken in spicy oil: This is a cold dish. The chicken is doused in spicy oil. It’s pretty good and simple. If you can’t handle spicy, you will want to avoid this. Double Cooked Pork: It’s like bacon stir-fried in peppers. Not a bad dish. Seafood chow fun: This is a pretty standard dish, but good. It was mostly shrimp and squid. The chow fun was softer than other places. If you get the spicy dishes, it will be on the oily side because of the spicy oil they use. They use a lot! I’d definitely recommend trying this place out, especially for their dry hot pot. We didn’t have any issues with their service. They were pretty attentive.

Wow, my craving for good and spicy Chinese food has been cured. Came here last night for the first time and was totally carried away — almost felt like I was back in China while eating with Chinese friends and soaking up the ambiance of a Mandarin-speaking crowd. You can pick many different items off the menu to put into the pot that they stir fry with delicious ingredients for you. The pot will be ready when brought to the table(no need for that tantalizing wait at a hot pot table when you have to watch the broth boil with your food, drooling). We got rice cakes, potatoes, vegetables, pork belly, crab sticks, and lotus roots, among other things with our pot, and had side orders of lamb skewers and mapo tofu. Everything was of course delicious, but my friend from Shanghai and I were being a bit challenged on our taste buds for spices, while our Sichuanese friend reveled in her ability to take pleasure in our misery. Although not on the verge of tears, it got a bit difficult for us to manage all the yummy yet fiery food. We asked if they had bubble tea since we wanted something ice cold and sweet to tame the spice, but they didn’t have any(they will soon, though, supposedly). Lots of bold flavors with plentiful ingredients; even though the broths in our pot and in the mapo tofu were clearly blood red — indicating just how spicy they were — everything was yummy and I’d love to return here again and again. One more plus: you get 5% off if you pay with cash. The prices are good to begin with, though. We had a bunch of food that completely filled us up and it came out $ 15 per person including tax and tip.
